About Gregory Mumma
We live in Lubbock, TX and started coming to Ruidoso about 25 years ago for the skiing! We liked Ruidoso so much we bought the cabin 19 years ago. I worked weekends for the Ski Apache Ski School for a number of years then focused on teaching my kids to ski. My kids were on Ruidoso Sierra Blanca Ski Team for three years then on the Santa Fe Ski Team. This year we are enjoying Ski Apache and just free skiing, but the Cabin is available for rental during Spring Break. We'd like to share our love of the mountains and the slopes with you!
Gregory Mumma purchased this Cabin in 2000
What makes this Cabin unique
The Sierra Vista Heights cabin is perfect for one or two couples or a small family. On a cul-de-sac and bordering on the Lincoln National Forest, it feels like you're away from it all, but you're only a short ride to the charming shops in the village of Ruidoso. The view from the deck includes Sierra Blanca, the top of Ski Apache's Apache Bowl, and surrounding peaks.

It was a great experience
I arrived the second day at night due to work, I arrived very tired once I walked in there was a horrible smell to the cabin, the kitchen was poorly cleaned as well as utensils, the beds also had a very bad smell to them we were not able to sleep on them due to the smell, luckily my sisters had also rented around and we ended up doing everything at their place, I had to clean the cabin to be able to stay there, also had to buy plastic utensils, I feel like my time and money was wasted I would not recommend it I had to leave early in the morning and left the cabin a lot more clean than when I had arrived, I sent the owner a video of the cabin upon my departure and told him how I had left it I’m not sure why vrbo as a company offers these poor services, I arrived home very disappointed to not have enjoyed a nice thanksgiving, I reached out to the owner through text messages and he responded with e mails offering to send someone to clean, I bealieve he should have sent someone to do that before my arrival in order for me to find it well taken care of, as a client I do not recommend it, I honestly feel like I should receive a refund i would not even give 1 star
It should be noted that this traveler had attempted to cancel her trip less than a week before arriving with little to no regard for the cancellation policy which is located on the VRBO website and in our custom rental agreement contract. We aim to be as accommodating as possible, so instead of holding firm to our cancelation policy, we offered a partial refund if they chose to cancel. Idaly confirmed that they wished to keep their existing reservation. Three days before their arrival I sent them the cabin’s information including the lockbox code and location. She confirmed she had received the directions and information. On the day of their scheduled arrival, I received a call, presumably from one of the guests. He wanted to know where the lockbox information was despite the information being previously sent. We believe this suggested that either an unauthorized person had been told by Idaly they could come, or that Idaly did not read over the cabin information sheet. The person I spoke with confirmed that they were traveling that day, but it would be a late arrival. Two days later, we received a very vague text message stating, “Hello! I am very disappointed with your cabin it is very dirty”. She later went on to say that the sheets had a bad smell, the floors were dirty, and the appliances/utensils were unclean. The cabin had been cleaned a few days before their arrival. My cleaning person always sends me detailed pictures of his work after he cleans the cabin. I reviewed the pictures and found the cabin was very clean from what the photos displayed. Despite this, I understand some details cannot be captured by camera. I immediately contacted our cleaning/maintenance person and he agreed to go up to the cabin to correct any issues they had found. I informed Idaly that the cleaning person would be there to address any concerns they had. I also mentioned that we could have better accommodated the situation if this has been brought up at the time of their arrival rather than two days into their stay during a holiday weekend. Idaly then said the following, “Good morning I’ve received you’re email, but it’s fine we depart tomorrow, I’ve already cleaned the floors and other details”. She also expressed that they had arrived Thanksgiving day and not on their scheduled arrival date. I canceled our cleaning person from going up to address the issue at this point. Idaly never did send pictures of what she was dissatisfied with upon her arrival. She did not want our cleaning person to address the supposed issues either. Before they left, she did send a video of the cabin. In this video, the cabin looked very clean and put together, just as it did in the pictures my cleaning person sent. According to our guest, the state of the cabin in her video was due to her own cleaning. We suspect that Idaly and the other guest were disappointed not with the cabin, but with out VRBO cancelation policy. Furthermore, we suspect that in her anger over this situation and inability to maturely accept the standard VRBO cancellation policy we use, she may have had one of her family members or a friend use the cabin and create the conditions that she saw upon coming two days after her scheduled arrival. We responded to the supposed situation as soon as we were made aware, but strangely our offer was rebuffed. We have been a VRBO cabin for something like eight or nine years. What is “horrible” is not the cabin, which has been very positively reviewed by many VRBO guests, but rather this guest’s derogatory, irresponsible, and shameful review.
Enjoyed our first stay in Ruidoso.
Property manager was quick to reply to every question I had. Will stay again. The property is on the older side and in need of a few repairs but we still enjoyed our stay.
The view and cooler temps (after a Texas summer) were perfect!
We came for 1) the view, 2) the cool temperatures, 3) the hiking, & 4) family time to cap off summer and really prepare us as the kids start school.. We saw bear tracks hiking and a deer our last morning! It’s an older cabin showing it’s age but there is a fully stocked kitchen & BBQ grill if you decide to eat in.
Fantastic deck and view of the mountains!!
Cabin could use some updates
Climb over a fence five feet from the edge of the Cabin and your in the Lincoln National Forest! Mountain biking on ranger trail and other locations near Sierra Blanca.
