We truly believe Otter Rock is a little slice of heaven on earth, come and visit and you will see why we feel this way.
Daniel Hasselschwert purchased this cabin in 2004
This is the most beautiful place on the planet, seriously. Add in the fact that it is quiet, private, out of the wind and a lot sunnier and warmer than most places on the Oregon coast and you will see for your self this place is amazing.
Watching the surfers, kayakers, whales and all that happens on the beach from your comfortable perch up above. Or a short walk to join them!
We had an amazing stay at the surf shack. The view and location are amazing. The shack has everything you need for a weekend get away. I would definitely recommend this beautiful place to anyone.
The Surf Shack is luxury camping at it's best. The views are out of this world, and if you plan to surf at Otter Cove then it doesn't get any more convenient. My partner and I stayed over Labor Day weekend and had sunny amazing weather most of the weekend. Eat/Surf/Hot tub/Sleep Repeat! Here's the deal, if you like to be outside then this is the place for you. The hot tub, kitchen, and living room are all outdoors! The small room is cozy and perfect for 2 to sleep. Everything was clean and ready for us to use when we arrived. And, as stated the composting toilet smells bad. So, if you've got a weak stomach for that kind of thing this isn't the place for you. As we were surfing all weekend we just hosed off outside and used the hot tub in place of showering over the weekend as the shower is also in the room with the toilet.
Things we brought to make this trip super enjoyable for ourselves: our own cooking supplies and dinnerware, a cooler to store our beer and food (there is a mini-fridge too), our own food/spices/cooking oils, 2 camp-style chairs, and lanterns because there is not sufficient outdoor lighting (though we purchased some large bulb holiday lights and left them there for the next folks to use).
Oh- And our dog loved being here with us as well!
Think of this place as a hot tub on top of a bluff with an amazing ocean view. We literally spent a few hours soaking in the tub and sipping wine while watching whales until the sun set. Once the whales were no longer visible, we started watching out for the stars. Amazing! I would recommend this place for folks who are comfortable camping. The dining/kitchen quarters consist of a picnic table on the deck, a small gas grill, and a hotplate. A random assortment of pots, plates, cups, and silverware are a available. We found that eating steaks with plastic forks was a bit challenging, so you may want to bring your own. The downside to our otherwise lovely stay was that when we emerged from a nice sleeping in at 9 AM, some workers showed up to fix something on the deck. Our special 24 hours away thus included chatting with them for 45 minutes, which was a a downer given that we had to leave at 11 AM. We assume it was a communication error, though the workers claimed the owner told them it was okay to come at that time... We were disappointed that the owner was not more responsive about this disruption to our romantic getaway. Nevertheless, this is a magical little spot.
The surf shack is just great. Friendly neighbors, a hot tub and basic cooking necessities (and shower!) and the view and activities surrounding it are worth the price of admission alone.
We can't wait to come back!
The hot tub view makes this place one-of-a-kind! The Surf Shack was clean and ready for us when we arrived. Great communication from owner. Highly recommended!
Prepare to bring your own cooking items as the setup provided is very limited for plates silverware bowls etc....however all that aside the place is killer! Stunning hot tub views and easy walk down to the beach. Stinky composting toilet for even this world traveler, but doable if you aren't a silver spoon princess.
Fish, crab, kayak, surf, walk/run & agate hunt on the 3+ miles of sandy beach right out front!
