Overview

About the property

Fully Remodeled, Beautiful, Welcoming Space-- Private, Yet Minutes From Downtown

Comfortable, warm and inviting-- all in an excellent location. This completely remodeled farmhouse is located on almost 8 wooded acres just a few short minutes from downtown Mankato.

In the warm months, cross the street and find yourself on miles of walking, running and biking trails connected to the Red Jacket Trail system. Head down the road 1/2 a mile and spend the weekend mountain biking at Mt Kato or pack your kayak or canoe and make your way to the Blue Earth River just a mile down the road. Grab the family and visit any number of the many recreational lakes in the area, several within 20 minutes of the house. Or stay home, grill and eat out on the patio and catch fireflies in the yard.

In the winter months, watch the downhill skiers and snowboarders ski the front side of Mt Kato from your living room window while comfortably nestled in front of a warm pellet stove, or hit the slopes yourself! Snowshoe or cross country ski along the trails… or stay home and enjoy the peace and comfort that this home provides. Soak in the antique clawfoot tub situated in front of the picture window looking out over woods. Watch the hawks and deer in the backyard. Whip up a delicious dinner in the custom kitchen, utilizing the ample soapstone countertops and butcher block island. Or start a fire in the easy-to-use wood pellet fireplace and spend the evening reading, watching a movie, or enjoying time with those you love.

This peaceful home would make a great weekend or week-long retreat for a couple, a small family or a single professional who has to be in the area for work. It is a well-priced and much more comfortable and spacious alternative to hotels in the area.

We now have an on-site caretaker who lives part time in a separate apartment, with a separate entrance, in the lower level/basement of the house (pictures of this space not posted on this website). The caretaker will mostly stay out of your way unless you need something, like a bonfire built, a restaurant recommendation or help booking a local outfitter for a river adventure.

About Jennifer

Teacher, mother, editor, horsewoman

Jennifer purchased this chateau / country house in 2007

Why Jennifer chose Minnesota

This house offered such a wonderful space in really one of the most beautiful sections of Mankato, the river valley. It was pretty rough when I bought it in 07, and many said it was way too big of a project for one person alone.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

There is just something about this property. You are close to everything, yet secluded just enough to feel peaceful when in the back property or relaxing in the home. The farmhouse is very well built and has great light because of its position on a small hill. It's one of those places where you just feel at home, for relaxing and rejuvenating.

Great Stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the farmhouse. It was easy to get to, there were plenty of walking trails nearby. The location was exactly as we were hoping for.

The farmhouse is very nice and comfortable, the kitchen is fantastic, the living room, bedroom were cozy.

For someone looking for a little getaway with access to trails for hiking, this is a great option.

Great location

  • 3 of 5

We loved the location of the farmhouse. Right across the road you can hop on the nicely paved path and go either direction as far as you want. The wild flowers were bountiful and gorgeous. The house was quiet and peaceful.

The kitchen was lovely and we enjoyed the nice space.

Unfortunately the weather was SO hot and we sweltered. The 90 plus degrees was unusual for early June so we didn't think it necessary to get a place with central air. We were thankful for the little air conditioner in the bedroom so we could sleep. The living room furniture was not very comfortable. We wished the nice comfy chair in the bedroom would have been downstairs.

We did enjoy our stay and appreciate our time there.

Owner's Response: Hi, Carol- Thank you for your kind words on the house being peaceful, quiet and the surrounding area beautiful. As for the temperature, yes, there was a very unusual for that time of year heat wave when you visited. We only have AC upstairs as that is where it has traditionally gotten hot and stuffy with the downstairs staying cool and comfortable if you open the windows and let the house draft. We are located on a little hill, so it gets a great natural breeze (we've never had a request or need for AC downstairs before). However, after your review, we will be installing an AC on the main floor within the next two weeks. As for the furniture, we have quality furniture in the home, and I personally think those couches are very comfortable in the living room, but I could see that they might be a bit warm if you were already struggling with temp. On another note, we try to be very accommodating for our guests, so if you find yourself staying with us again, please contact us during your stay and we will do what it takes to make you comfortable, including installing an AC unit on the main floor :)

Our family really enjoyed our weekend at The Farmhouse. We stayed snug during the thunderstorm, spent some family time watching movies, and made wonderful meals in the amazing kitchen. Loved it!

Great place to stay! Home away from home.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I LOVED staying in this adorable, cozy little house. It has so much character! The pellet stove made for a cozy evening curled up with some blankets in the living room. We hope to find a house like this one to live in one day because it was that great! We will definitely want to stay there if we visit Minnesota again.
