Beautiful, Cozy Farmhouse On Acreage Minutes From Mankato

Bedrooms 2
Space 1,600 sq. ft.
Property type chateau / country house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Fully Remodeled, Beautiful, Welcoming Space-- Private, Yet Minutes From Downtown

Comfortable, warm and inviting-- all in an excellent location. This completely remodeled farmhouse is located on almost 8 wooded acres just a few short minutes from downtown Mankato.

In the warm months, cross the street and find yourself on miles of walking, running and biking trails connected to the Red Jacket Trail system. Head down the road 1/2 a mile and spend the weekend mountain biking at Mt Kato or pack your kayak or canoe and make your way to the Blue Earth River just a mile down the road. Grab the family and visit any number of the many recreational lakes in the area, several within 20 minutes of the house. Or stay home, grill and eat out on the patio and catch fireflies in the yard.

In the winter months, watch the downhill skiers and snowboarders ski the front side of Mt Kato from your living room window while comfortably nestled in front of a warm pellet stove, or hit the slopes yourself! Snowshoe or cross country ski along the trails… or stay home and enjoy the peace and comfort that this home provides. Soak in the antique clawfoot tub situated in front of the picture window looking out over woods. Watch the hawks and deer in the backyard. Whip up a delicious dinner in the custom kitchen, utilizing the ample soapstone countertops and butcher block island. Or start a fire in the easy-to-use wood pellet fireplace and spend the evening reading, watching a movie, or enjoying time with those you love.

This peaceful home would make a great weekend or week-long retreat for a couple, a small family or a single professional who has to be in the area for work. It is a well-priced and much more comfortable and spacious alternative to hotels in the area.

We now have an on-site caretaker who lives part time in a separate apartment, with a separate entrance, in the lower level/basement of the house (pictures of this space not posted on this website). The caretaker will mostly stay out of your way unless you need something, like a bonfire built, a restaurant recommendation or help booking a local outfitter for a river adventure.

Why Jennifer chose Mankato

This house offered such a wonderful space in really one of the most beautiful sections of Mankato, the blue earth river valley.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

There is just something about this property. You are close to everything, yet secluded just enough to feel peaceful when in the back property or relaxing in the home. The farmhouse is very well built and has great light because of its position on a small hill. It's one of those places where you just feel at home, for relaxing and rejuvenating.

We had a relaxing weekend at the farmhouse. It was nice to get away and enjoy some solitude where we did to need to worry about anything. The house is nicely decorated and the updates to this old building are fantastic. Its very cozy and feels like staying at a friend's house. The character of the building is emphasised in all the decorating. The only cons were that we couldn't find a pizza cutter or measuring cups (the kitchen has some great perks but there were some basics that we couldn't locate that we needed) and the twin beds were not very comfortable (would be fine for kids but not for adults as the mattresses we're a bit less than desired - but the bigger bed was very comfortable!). The quirks of the house took a little getting used to (we had to figure out that the DVD player wasn't working due to the place it was plugged in and light switches!). Would have been great to have a little movie collection to use too! However, we would definitely stay again!

Above and beyond experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Jennifer's amazing rental during our wedding weekend, and it was definitely the right choice for us! We were able to use it as a home base for all of the logistics that had to happen, from preparing/storing food for the day after brunch to having a place for our family dogs to stay during the festivities. It was also a welcome retreat for us, cozy and quiet after all of the craziness. It's really a beautiful space that has everything you could need (pictures hardly do it justice) - it really feels like home.

On top of all of that, after our stay we had an issue with refunding the deposit because of a closed credit card (HomeAway's problem) and Jennifer went above and beyond to make sure that the issue was resolved. Really just a great experience overall!

Rustic Charm Just Outside of Town

  • 5 of 5

We have a daughter attending Minnesota State University - Mankato and we were looking for something a little different from the typical hotel experience whenever we visited her. I had my eye on this property for some time and found it to be booked often and now I know why! I booked it for MSU Family Weekend way out in advance and I was not disappointed!

The Farmhouse is a charming, relaxing property, surprisingly close to town and campus (only about 5-10 minutes to campus). However, you would never know that standing on the property. It's almost like you step into another world way out in the countryside. It sits up on a hill overlooking a regional trail and Mt. Kato Ski Area. With some rustic out buildings and tree lined acreage, you can just imagine what this must have been like as a working farm some years ago. *My personal favorite is overlooking the view from the front porch in either the wooden rocker or porch swing.

The rustic charm only gets better when you enter the home. I instantly relaxed as I entered through the kitchen with a sizeable butcher block island and welcoming note from the caretaker. As you walk around the home, you can just feel the history and activity of years gone by, but with just enough modern conveniences to keep up your modern lifestyle (wifi, flat screen TV, Dish network, window unit AC, gas grill and kitchen appliances).

Now for the details - The amenities were accurately described and very easy to find. Instructions were posted in plain site and very helpful. The house was very clean with a few rustic cobwebs in the windows (adds to the charm!) and very well maintained (great work Anissa!). Jennifer sent me an updated instruction on how to unlock the back door and it was very easy to use. The bedding and furniture were in excellent condition and very comfortable. There are plenty of games and books available if needed. There are even some child toys in the twin bedroom, along with a crib and changing table. The claw foot tub is amazing and the bathroom very spacious.

I highly recommend this property!

Good for - Couples Getaway, Small Families, Romantic Getaways, Relaxation, Fall Foliage, Winter Activities, Biking, Hiking, College Visits.

My advice to prospective renters - If staying during hot weather, bring an extra fan or two. Even though there are window units in the bedrooms and one in the dining area, it can get a bit warm if there is no breeze to push through the well ventilated home
