My husband and I are retired and live in California. I wanted a place that would be a home-away-from- home in the Pacific Northwest. I grew up in Seattle and I still have family and friends there. I'm a quilter, my husband collects vinyl records and we share our lives with 4 dogs and 2 cats.
Dawn and Roger Mortara purchased this house in 2011
I have lived in So. Calif. for many years now but I still miss the Northwest. We looked at some homes on Whidbey but childhood friends suggested Camano and that's where we found the prefect vacation home.
Camano Island is so beautiful - the water, the trees, the fresh air! The peace and quiet of the neighborhood. And I was delighted to find so many good restaurants and fun places to browse and shop. I'm looking forward to making more discoveries on Camano.
The home on Camano Island was exactly as described. Myself and 4 other woman stayed here while exploring the area, hiking, kayaking and relaxing and dining on seafood. Loved all the ways to just sit and enjoy the view! I would stay again in a heartbeat.
We absolutely loved our stay. It was spacious, clean. Gorgeous VIEW. Very homey. Very quiet, just what we were looking for. Hated to leave. We would definitely rent again. Quiet, Just what wr were looking for
comfortable place to stay, peaceful and with beautiful views of the bay
I have used VRBO for years now, and this is truly the best house that I've booked. It was very clean, stocked with plenty of towels, and a full-kitchen! For my family, having a well-stocked kitchen truly makes the home. The master bed was very comfortable, and the heaters in every room kept the temp perfect too. The western view was lovely, and the home is close to beach access. We will definitely be staying at this home again!
The house was as described. The owners look like they are doing updates to improve their property. View was phenomenal.
My family and I (including my adult daughter, grandson, and two teenagers) spend a week around the 4th of July (1st to 7th) here, and it was wonderful. Even with the record heat wave in WA, we stayed relatively cool. There are plenty of windows and doors to open and let a cross breeze through. The beds are very comfortable, the house is very clean and well-kept, and the view is spectacular. And the 4th of July fireworks, which we watched from the back deck, were spectacular! There are plenty of games and puzzles for days you may not leave the house due to rain, some books and movies, cable and wifi with a strong signal, although we really didn't plug in very often - only to make reservations for activities in Seattle.
You are well within driving distance for lots of things - Seattle sight seeing, Whale Watching (I recommend Island Adventures in Anacortes), hiking, the Boeing tour in Everett - even Olympic National Park would make a nice day trip from here. And you're only 80 miles from Vancouver if you wanted to spend a day there.
Coming from the Atlantic Coast, the beaches were an interesting change - all rocks and shells. Great for beach combing. Of course, the water is too cold to even attempt swimming.
I recommend checking the pantry before grocery shopping. We accidentally doubled up on coffee and tea, not knowing there was already some in the house, lol. I also recommend taking the drive into Stanwood and shopping at Haggen rather than IGA on the island, although IGA has all the essentials in a pinch. They're just a smaller store and a bit more expensive.
All in all, it was a wonderful stay and if we come back to the area again, I will definitely be checking to see if it's available. Dawn was very sweet and super helpful.
