Do Drop Inn - a water front home w/lg fenced yard & private dock on Monroe Bay
Located in Colonial Beach on the point, the Do Drop Inn is a year round 3 bedroom, 2 full bath home located directly on the water front of Monroe Bay. The house comfortably sleeps five persons. The views are amazing - from beautiful sunrises, through all day sky and water watching activities checking out the action on the water in and out of the channel and marinas, to glorious sunsets, moon rises and then to look up to see how close the stars and planets are while gazing at constellations you haven't even noticed before. For the nature lovers, the Do Drop Inn is the best place to watch storms, but yet be protected. Wonderful bird watching location !!
The layout and warmth of this 1,600 + square foot home with a 336 square foot deck balcony is just a bonus to the excellent views, relaxing atmosphere, local activities and nature watching.
The master bedroom suite has a grand view of the water and sunrises and includes a king size bed and cable television. The private master bath includes both a tub and a shower, which the optional wall heater makes nice and cozy. The second bedroom has a queen size bed and cable tv with a private door into the full hall bath. The third bedroom or office/den has a fantastic view of the water along with sunrises and sunsets and includes a twin bed and cable tv. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and wonderful windows which brings the outside in. All linens and towels are provided unless you prefer to bring your own.
The living room makes you feel like you are living on the water with a set of Andersen double sliding glass doors opening onto the 12'x28' wide deck with a sunsetter remote control sun shade awning. The cathedral ceiling has two ceiling fans and there is a wood burning fireplace. There is a 45" television with cable tv (Direct TV with Genie) and a wii. There are several desk work areas if you do need to work. A large mirrored wall makes the space feel even larger. Nautical decorations, a collection of local sharks teeth and other fossils along with a glass collection, all enhanced with the 'by the water' living environment. The wood burning fireplace is a wonderful addition throughout the winter months with an ample supply of firewood in close proximity.
All three bedrooms, the hallways and the great room are carpeted with an off white light beige cut pile. The kitchen and bathrooms have vinyl tile floors. All walls are painted white. All doors and frames and window frames are wood finished in a medium oak stain. The mix of mirrors, lots of window and the skylight provide ample natural light throughout the house. Therefore, all spaces are light and airy, while feeling warm and inviting.
The table space kitchen is open to the living room for full entertaining and interaction. You can even watch sunset over the water out the kitchen windows at the table, which seats 6. An adjoining 'mud' room sports the mini bar with sink where the full size washer and dryer are tucked away. The kitchen is supplied with more than enough pots, pans, dishes, glasses, silverware and counter top appliances such as microwave, coffee pot, food blender, toaster, etc.
Enjoy your coffee on the deck while watching all the birds and wildlife which includes eagles, ospreys, great blue herons, swans, ducks, geese, cormorants, king fishers, sterlings, cardinals, etc. Have an adult beverage or two and you might wonder if you really are seeing a ground hog coming up over the seawall or not.
The side yard is very large and is fenced for the dogs and kids to run around in. Grab a football, volleyball, badminton or corn hole game and just hang outside. Grab a fishing rod and go down on the dock to fish, crab, kayak, canoe, all at your own risk of course. Make sure to wear the life vests. Vests and paddles are in the front hall closet.
The outdoor fire pit area is a wonderful place to hang out to keep the chill off on spring or fall evenings. Fireworks can be seen throughout the summer season not only in town, but from the water view out of the Do Drop Inn over Monroe Bay. The neighbors are nice, but the property has privacy due to the large yard as the lot is wider then other typical house lots, so you don't feel confined nor closed in and on top of the neighbors.
You can walk or ride your bicycle into town in minutes to the gourmet markets and variety of restaurants and great shops or to the long stretch of sandy beach along the Potomac River. Up the street and around the point is a great 5k run. The fun aspect of being on 'The Point' is riding a golf cart all around town and don't forget to wave, most everyone waves and is smiling. The usual hand wave off the steering wheel is the classic for Colonial Beach locals.
Discounts are available for military members with long term per diem stays. The Do Drop Inn is both children and pet friendly. All liability is yours with an unwritten use at your own risk policy. The property has its own private dock and is truly waterfront. Typically in Colonial Beach waterfront is water view as you are across the street. The Do Drop in is literally by and on the water. The private dock offers ample slip space with power and there are two boat lifts and one jet ski lift - additional rental rates would apply. There is a floating dock for the kayak, canoe or laser sailboat. Wear your water shoes to protect your feet as there are a lot of oyster shells on Winkidoodle Point.
Lafayette Street used to be named Boat Lane. The Street is more of an usual street on 'The Point' as it a dead end at Curley's Oyster House, Monroe Bay Marina and Winkidoodle Point Marina. Sitting on the deck you can see part of the older marina, and when the winds blow through the sailboats and you can hear the soft clanging of the sailboat lanyards in the distance. Quite the get away but the socialization is right out the front door. Or is the front yard the waterfront and the street side is the back door? You decide.

Why Peggy chose Colonial Beach
Come and visit and you will find out why.
What makes this House unique
Living by the water (or on the water) relaxes you like nothing else. Literally waterfront, there is no road between you in the house or on the deck and the dock on the water. A floating dock addition allows easy access onto the water for your canoe and/or kayak. The extra large lot puts you a nicer distance away from the neighbors creating more privacy than a typical CB lot size.

In general, we were disappointed with our experience. Due to a family situation, we had to leave after 1 night of a 5 night stay. I notified her immediately after the 1st night letting her know we had to leave. The owner was not flexible nor understanding and charged us the entire amount. I offered to pay for a few nights but she wanted it all.
Regarding the property, while the inside of the house was clean the exterior was not. Upon arriving we noticed what appeared to be old, broken down boats and other equipment in or next to the driveway. In the rear of the house junked appliances/equipment... old grills, smokers, other equipment... were just left outside of the house. The deck appeared to be newly stained/painted but only about 75% was complete and in a random manner.
While the view in the details of the booking for the house looks appealing, the actual view is different. Out of the back of the house, you do overlook the water; however, the first thing you see is a broken down boat with tarps and debris tied to a dock next door. Not a great visual.
Love, love, love!
My family and I had a wonderful time at this house--it was perfect for us! The house is lovely (fully stocked)....it is located directly next to the water, with a large porch, attached dock (kayak and canoe available!) and has a fenced in yard--so it was perfect for our fur babies as well. Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful home and for allowing us to enjoy Colonial Beach in style!
Wow - one word to describe our weekend stay at the Do Drop Inn. Everything about our weekend was perfect. The house was beautiful and spacious, the deck looking over the water was huge and the view was amazing. The fire-pit in the back by the water was great for late night s'mores and watching the boats go out. Everything about our stay here was wonderful and Peggy was great to work with. She left us everything we needed and more to make our stay here perfect, including use of her kayak and canoe which we really enjoyed. Thanks for making this one of the best vacations ever. Hands down this is the only place to stay when visiting Colonial Beach!
Thank you ! I am really glad you and your family enjoyed your stay.
Beautiful views, great place for a weekend away!
We found everything we were looking for at the Do Drop Inn! We travel with our 2 dogs. The fenced in yard gave them plenty of safe space. The view was exactly what we hoped it would be! Peggy was a pleasure to work with and we look forward to our next trip!
4th of July Fun!
The husband and I stayed over the July 4th weekend and I have to say it was exquisite! We brought the two dogs who L-O-V-E-D the enormous, fenced back yard. The ospreys were out every day and we enjoyed listening to their chatter and watching them carry their fishy meals to their nests. The canoe was a ton of fun, too! It was so nice to sit on the dock- watching the sailboats come and go during the day and stargaze at night.
The house was fantastic. We had plenty of space, and the kitchen had everything we needed. The master bedroom was great, and it was very nice waking up to the beautiful sunrise. The bathrooms were also very clean. I felt like I was at home in this place.
Ms. Peggy also gave us lots of really solid recommendations - all of which were quite tasty!
Bikefest weekend stay
My husband and I just spent the weekend at this rental for our anniversary weekend and bike fest, which brought in many great bands and events to colonial beach. The house is right on the river and has spectacular views of the sunrise and sunset from large sliding doors in the living area that open to a large deck as well as large windows in the master bedroom. We enjoyed sitting out on the pier and even got to feed three swans that swam up. Even though the night got rather chilly we stayed out on the deck as long as possible watching the lights from the marina in the distance and boats going by. A stay in the summertime would be spectacular.
Walk around town, walk along the beach, ride your bicycle around the point, rent a golf cart and cruise around town from place to place. R&R, everyone is having fun, everyone is smiling, everyone waves. Or charter our boat and we'll take you out on the river for a ride, to water ski, to visit our local sharks tooth island, to fish, or just to relax on a sun set cruise.
