Hi, I'm Sue Middleton pictured here with my daughter Lucy and husband George. We located here from California in 2007.
George is American born in Ohio and Lucy and I are English, although we lived in the states for 30 years so I guess that makes us mostly American!
We manage La Roche for our good friends Doug and Tina who have been my friends for over 40 years.
Susan Middleton purchased this house in 2002
La Roche was chosen by Doug and Tina as their holiday home in France for its wonderfully spacious accommodation for their large family, for its central and beautiful location and for its absolutely stunning views of the Dordogne River Valley.
They visit 3 or 4 times a year and the rest of the summer season make the house available to holiday makers.
The house is completely private in a small quiet hamlet, high up with great views and a feeling of peace and serenity. It is a very large house so large groups with children can have a very comfortable holiday with plenty of space for everyone.
La Roche is also a great venue for smaller groups as we offer reduced rates depending on the number of bedrooms used.
The 2 ground floor ensuite bedrooms also are very appreciated by Grannies and Grandpas.
The pool is surrounded by a high hedge and is heated so it extends the swimming season by at least 3 months.
We stayed one month here - a mix of teenagers and adults. The views are stunning, the weather lovely and night air refreshing. We all fell in love with this house and the hamlet of Bezenac, the nearby castle at Beynac, and the town of Sarlat. Of course, the high point is the Dordogne River, a beautiful piece of water with a rich history in full evidence as you canoe down it. The house has five big bedrooms, with one on the first floor (good for grandparents). Upstairs the four bedrooms include two very big rooms with a queen and two twins each, plus two double rooms, all with plenty of closet space. The living/dining room on first floor is a wonderful space that holds a crowd - at the big dining table or on the four leather sofas and chairs. French doors all around make this space an absolute joy. Ask for access to the garage if you like to play pool - there is a full-size table in there for the Yanks, as opposed to the billiards table in the other space. The pool area is really well-done - heated water, plenty of lounge chairs and tables. Finally, the wifi is excellent at the house - I was teleworking and never had a snag during the whole month.
You definitely need a car, as Bezenac is in the middle of the countryside. But morning walks to the patisserie will keep you in good shape, along with evening walks through the village and up to the local castle. It's a magical place, complete with late night visits from a few wild boars and early morning visits from the milder-looking deer.
Sue, George and Lucy took excellent care of us throughout our stay. We miss this place already!!
