Just the right place!

  • 5 of 5

I am very picky when it comes to a place to lay my head. I also want the place to be located within driving/walking distance of places to explore. The Green Cottage met my expectations. I walked in and felt like it was a true home a way from home. I found Gail to be a thoughtful and considerate host, sharing her mountain retreat wholeheartedly. I loved the smaller bedroom with access to the deck as I had my dog with me. We sat outside every morning and listened to the birds sing. My sister slept in the larger bedroom and loved waking up to rain or the sun shining in the huge windows. We explored all of the nearby towns and ate at some incredible restaurants, all within ~30 minutes of the cottage. We especially loved the Circle W Market for breakfast. So, to sum up my time at Green Cottage - I will return anytime that I feel the pull of Rip Van Winkle.

A Wonderful Week in the Catskills!

  • 5 of 5

A friend and I just completed a truly enjoyable week at Green Cottage in Palenville, NY, in the Northern Catskill Mountain area. It was very restful, and physically beautiful thanks to the blessings of nature. That was complemented by the lovely "small town" atmosphere of the many little villages nearby -- enhanced by attractive homes and some very appealing restaurants.

The most wonderful memories came from the Green Cottage itself! It would be very difficult to find a more comfortable home -- and we have rented many over the years. The owner Gail Dedrick has thought of and provided everything one could possibly need as a guest, and she is completely non-intrusive but always available by phone for directions or advice. We truly believe you will love your visit for as long as you can stay!

Catskill rental vacation

  • 4 of 5

House was lovely nestled in the Catskill woods of Palenville, and we enjoyed watching the chipmunk early in the a.m., touring the area, talking to locals, eating in Tannersville, etc. Fernwood restaurant was a big disappointment, and some of the bath towels were stiff and smelled musty as did parts of the house.

I saw a daddy long legs spider outside one of the windows and was surprised to see one when I was about to shower. It fell off my head. We also saw a cockroach on the refrigerator door. Spiders are good as they kill other insects, but roaches bad, so that filthy roach got killed. We left early around 9:00 A.M. Friday as we couldn't wait to get back.

A sophisticated cottage in the Catskills

  • 5 of 5

We loved this cottage! Came here for a quiet few days, during a break in the winter weather. The cottage is comfortable and well-appointed. The home is on a quiet, dead-end street but close enough to area attractions...Gail stayed in contact, helpful but not overwhelming. We'll definitely return!

Delightful, up-to-date cottage in a quiet, bucolic setting

  • 5 of 5

We loved this place!

We loved it so much we were plotting immediately how to convince the owners to sell it to us. (OK, not in a serious way.) The house looks a little plain from the exterior, but inside is a combination of retro design and modern appliances/conveniences. It's warm and cozy and a pleasure to exist in -- and pretty much anything you could want or need, from mixing bowls to spare blankets to salt for the icy ground -- is available on site.

For my purposes, the shack in the back -- which is all done up inside and has internet/a computer/heating/a spare sleeping area -- was perfect for getting writing done; if you have a project you want to accomplish, that is exactly what you will need.

The area is terrific. Palenville itself is pretty spare, but you're close to all kinds of restaurants and outdoor activities, and a short drive will take you there. The neighborhood is quiet and soothing (houses are nearby but when we were here, in the winter, things were pretty silent) and it's an easy walk to the nearby river.

I felt very welcomed by our hosts, who we never met, but who seemed incredibly accommodating. And they even let us bring our little dog! Thanks again for a great experience. We'll be back.

Beautiful, cozy spot!

  • 5 of 5

We can't say enough about the Green Cottage! It was the perfect place to spend the Thanksging holiday with loved ones, a beautifully designed, thoughtfully updated home with all the amenities and then some. We cooked a giant Thanksgiving meal and the owner went out and bought kitchen items we needed before we arrived. She was always an email or text away when we had a question and couldn't have been more helpful. The Palenville location is perfect, with Woodstock, Catskill and Hudson a short drive from the cottage. We'll be back!
