Built in 1850, remodeled in 1989 for a comfortable lifestyle, all on one floor! Right across the street from Rockport Opera house, with a sunny southern exposure and a wrap around porch. Walk easily to 18 Central and the Nina June Cafe in the same block. This would be a great house to rent while taking a class at The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship or the Maine Media Workshop. Perfect too for attending the Bay Chamber concerts right across the street in the Opera House or at Union Hall . We love to stroll over to the library and browse the periodicals or books for sale. The house has a number of comfy chairs for sitting and reading, and a desk situated next to a window overlooking the harbor for writing. It is a restful house, but there are plenty of adventures to be had in the surrounding Camden hills or inland. Our two bedrooms each open onto the kitchen/dining area, and each has a full bathroom. Each one has an air conditioner, although it is rarely needed. How many times we visited here in the summer, leaving a hot steamy Boston, and found Rockport chilled by a fog bank. Mom would say, 'Always bring a sweater when you come to Maine!'
This house is perfect for two couples on a getaway weekend, or as a home base during a longer visit to New England.
Our parents purchased this house when it was in poor condition in the '70s, and rehabilitated it for their retirement home. It has new floors and a whole new floor plan, with a nod to historic details like the beautiful old paneling around the fireplace. It is on one level with only three stairs to come in from outdoors. We loved bringing our children here to visit their grandparents, and took many walks around the harbor.
We have seen many others enjoy the location as much as we have, since we began vacation renting in 2014. Please read the many positive reviews we've earned, and consider enjoying Maine from our central location.
We had a wonderful time in your charming home. We really enjoyed staying here. The view of the harbor from the living room is spectacular and will stay with us forever. Thank you for opening your home to us all.
My 24 year old grandson and I attended a woodworking school in Rockport, and this was a perfect location. The house is in a wonderful location and feels so homey and comfortable, and the owner could not have been nicer. We loved it!
We were fortunate to stay three days at this wonderful home and we loved it! We had all that we needed, including a scenic view of the harbor from the porch, which we visited each morning with our hot cup of tea. It was wonderful!!! We had everything we needed. I would love to come back, again!
Lovely stay in cozy home with deck overlooking the bay. Layout is comfortable and the home is equipped with everything you'll need. Great location for exploring the Camden coast!
This house was perfect for a relaxing vacation! The property was as described and the owners were a pleasure to deal with. They met us at check in, showed us around the house and then pretty much left us alone.
Unlike other properties we have stayed in this house has a lot of personality-no condo furniture here- looks like it was put together by somebody who actually lived there- nothing flashy, just very comfortable.
We enjoyed having breakfast outside on the screened porch, which gave us enough privacy. Having a glass of wine while seating on the terrace, looking down on the harbor and just doing nothing was nice. Location is perfect: Samoset Golf resort is 10 mins away, Camden is up the street, the Hannaford supermarket is very close. This area of the town has sidewalks throughout and it made walking around very safe.
We would definitely stay there again when in Maine.
The propertiy is well maintained and clean. The place has more than you'll need. Ruth thought of everything. There is every kitchen implement you can think of. Beds are nice and comfy. Its a old 19th century, very cool property next to Rockport Harbor. Great sailing on the Heron, 59' schooner..walk to dock. The opera house is also nice, across the street. Wife attended a production of Carmen, suprisingly good, but expenive. Awesome Oyster Bar/restaurant across the street. Real nice bar and high end food..a 2 minute walk home.
The location is perfect... quiet, near Camden, 5 minutes a touristy harbor spot. Rockland, 15 minutes south is a bit more urban with old school downtown and nice restaurants.
We absolutely brought the beautiful weather with us! Our stay at the Rockport house could not have been better. Kitchen fully stocked with every item we could need, air conditioners worked great to cool us down after spending everyday outside. Very handy having washer & dryer available. Great notebook with suggestions for sights to see and restaurants. LOVED the screen porch & huge deck overlooking the harbor! Spent a great night around the big dining room playing cards. Overall our stay at your lovely house was just what we needed for our get away to Maine!
This is a beautiful spot for walking. One block in one direction is the working harbor, with windjammers and lobsterboats in action. Bring your kayaks! The memorial to Andre the seal is there, as well as the Rockport lime kiln exhibit. Graffam’s fish market and picnic area make a fun walk at lunch time. In another direction is the quiet road along Beauchamps point, leading past waterfront estates, Children's Chapel and the famous Belted Galloway cows at Aldermere farm.
Camden and all its lovely shops is a 5 minute drive, and will take the better part of the day to explore. The Atlantic climbing School is waiting to take you rock climbing on Mount Megunticook and environs. Or just hike Mount Battie, the muse for Edna St Vincent Millay, on your own. You can even drive up Mt Battie and climb the stone tower for a sweeping view of Penobscott Bay.
In August, it's blueberry time, and the Union Fair is in full swing with old fashioned ox pulling, pie eating contest, and prancing ponies. Autumn brings more lovely walks through the foliage, apple picking in Hope, or across Beech Hill, to see the low bush blueberry bushes all burnished red.
Attend one of the many Bay Chamber concerts right across the street.
