Beautiful 1930's outbuilding converted to a cozy 400 sq foot studio w/ loft. Kitchen, bathroom w/shower, a spacious garden type detached space. Queen bed in loft big enough for two. Hollywood Hills location beneath the Hollywood Sign. Hiking and horseback riding nearby. Public transportation 1/4 mile away.
'Jasmine Cottage' is located in Historic Hollywoodland 1/4 of a mile above the gates, this cottage is set back off the street in a quiet neighborhood known for it's European style architecture. The main house has been featured in magazines, The L A Times and several 'storybook cottage' architectural books. The stamped tin ceilings of the rental cottage, extensive use of wood, exposed beams, leaded windows, etc were an attempt to stay in the '30s Hollywood style. This is a perfect space for two people...one bed!
The rental cottage and it's outdoor entrance patio area are included.
The main house and yard are private and excluded.
We are on the property pretty much 24/7 and happy to assist you in any way we can. We've lived here for 40 years and know the area pretty well. Having said that we value and respect you privacy and will do everything we can to insure it while you're here.
You can walk out the door and hike through the hills for miles. Jack and his faithful dog, Louie are avid hikers and know all the local trails and would be delighted to share their favorites. The Sign, Maddona/Wolf Castle hike above Lake Hollywood, Mt Cahuenga and all of Griffith Park are nearby. There are 8 sets of 'historic' staircases...a 176 step monster 3 houses up the street if that's what you like and I can give you a route over them that will take care of your cardio for the day! It's unusual to run into anyone using them at the same time, unlike other parts of town.
On the other hand, you can walk 1/4 mile down the hill to the Beachwood Cafe, the Beachwood Market or the Cleaners for any of their services...or catch the bus down the hill to Hollywood and Vine (across from the Pantages Theater...'Warhorse, Book of Mormon, Lion King, etc) where you can walk the length of Hollywood Boulevard all the way down to The Chinese Theater and the Dolby Center (Oscars). The bus connects to a subway, The Metro that can take you downtown to historic Olivera Street and the birthplace of Los Angeles for some tasty Mexican cuisine, or China Town or Little Tokyo nearby. Take the Metro north two stops to Universal City with all their rides, attractions, restaurants and movies. (My favorite eatery there is Buca di Beppo for family style Italian!)
Bus, Metro, cabs, shuttles are all available here. If you have a car be sure to get a gps.
And we'll be happy to help you sort it out if needs be.
Santa Monica Beach is 1/2 hour away and the Venice Boardwalk is a must see. Hollywood Forever Cemetery is about 3 miles away...lots of stars buried there and they have movies and all kinds of functions at night. You'll hear coyotes howl sometimes at night and loads of owls. This is one of the best places to go birding in the USA....it's kind of like being out in the country in the middle of the city.
We stayed for a couple of weeks upon first arriving in LA and it was perfect for decompression. Jack and Michelle were lovely, welcoming but never intrusive hosts and the accomodation is beautifully set in the Hollywood Hills - equally handy for hiking, shopping and dining at the Beachwood Market and Beachwood Cafe or slightly further (but still walkable) trips out to Franklin Village for food, comedy and drinks.
The guesthouse itself is a converted garage, but only the sliding door would tip you off to that. The interior is beautifully converted and the wood paneling smells great! The windows offer a lovely view into the garden and it's far enough off the road to be able to sleep with the windows open and enjoy the sounds of nature from outside.
We had a great time staying here and would absolutely recommend it.
Our stay in Jack's house was fantastic. The home is in a perfect and safe location just below the Hollywood sign, walking distance from shops and restaurants. The house itself is great and very functional and this "countryside vibe" gives a real feeling of tranquility.
Our host Jack was there to welcome us (eventough our flight was 2h late) and he did everything he could to make our stay even more agreeable!
Highly recommended. We'll be back for sure!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Jack & Michelle's studio in Hollywood Hills. Everything was perfect ... the place is adorable, clean, quiet & secluded, well stocked with everything you need for a pleasant stay. We would highly recommend the property and hope to return sometime soon!
I've stayed in many other home away homes in the past but this little bungalow is near the top for me. I needed a place for respite during a trying family time. This space plus the very conscientious hosts proved to be exactly what I needed. It's ver private and numerous walks/ hikes are right outside your doorway. And it's surrounded by a garden and flowers, so serene. Thank you.
The cottage is clean, cosy and ideally placed for exploring LA. Far enough away from the noise of Hollywood, but close enough for easy access to the sights. The location is idyllic, and Michelle and Jack are wonderful, considerate hosts who offered advice on where to go, routes for hikes into Griffith Park, and even offered us rides. The nearby market, laundry, and cafe mean you don't have to venture too far for essentials, and you can be on Hollywood Boulevard in a matter of minutes via the Dash Bus service. We would highly recommend staying here to get a sense of the real history of Hollywood.
Jack and Michelle's cottage is one of the loveliest places I've ever stayed anywhere in the world. The space has a real warmth and peacefulness that is such a welcome oasis in a city as big and bustling as LA. Jack and Michelle are truly wonderful hosts, very considerate and ready to help with any question or problem, and Louie the dog is a total sweetheart. The kitchen has everything you need, there is ample heating/cooling in the cottage, and also great storage space. The view of the garden along the side of the living room is delightful - there are little birds to be seen every morning and pretty flowers in window boxes to brighten your day. The loft sleeping area is really cosy, with a fan for the warmer months, and the area is so quiet that you always get a peaceful night's sleep. The place is walking distance from central Hollywood - I was here without a car and didn't have any problems getting around - it's a very safe neighbourhood. If you do have a car, Jack and Michelle have a parking permit you can use. Close by are the lovely village shops at Beachwood Market - with a full grocery store, laundry, cafe and florist. There are also amazing hikes you can walk to from the cottage - in Griffith Park and also around Lake Hollywood. I cannot recommend it highly enough and will definitely return! It's the best!
