Hinton Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Creekside Cabin. A real cabin located on the creek. King size bed w/ creek view.

Please Read The Entire Description Prior To Booking (everything you need to know is listed in the description):

Creekside Cabin has a real cabin feel because it is a real cabin. Originally built as a Summer getaway right on the creek, it is a two bedroom, one bathroom cabin located right on Gum Run, which is a Native Trout stream. The maximum occupancy is not the amount of people the cabin sleeps it's the amount we will allow in the cabin.

Wake up to the sound of water flowing in the creek just outside the master bedroom. This is a real cabin that was originally built over 75 years ago as a summer getaway. The cabin is rustic, but super cute with original heart pine floors. The bathroom was just updated the end of August with a new stand up shower, new vanity/sink and toilet.

There is also a fire pit right on the river which is perfect for relaxing in the evenings. The cabin is also walking distance to the George Washington National Forest. Trout fishing here is amazing year round. And Dry River (a 3 minute walk from the cabin) is one of the best trout streams in the entire Mid-Atlantic region.

The kitchen currently has retro 1950's or 1960's appliances, but they are still fully functional though. They are not perfect whereas they are more than 50 years old. The stove / oven is very old, but it is in amazing shape and works perfectly. The kitchen sink is from the 1940's era, but it is still in excellent shape too for its age (keep in mind it is 75 years old or so). The kitchen cabinets are all metal and from another era too. :) We will replace all of these appliances and cabinets at some point (although numerous guests keep telling us to keep the old appliances so we may end up keeping them due to popular demand), but they are in amazing condition for their age (about 60 years old) so we'll be sure to find another use for them as decorations if we do end up replacing them. There is a toaster, microwave, blender and coffee maker in the kitchen too. Sheets, toilet paper and towels are provided. Paper towels are not.

The cabin has high speed wireless internet. The living room has a flat screen tv (with full cable and a blu-ray/dvd player). The cabin also has a land line phone in case your cell phone doesn't work out here (some cell providers work, but not all).

There is also a decent size living room with a stone fireplace with a wood stove. (Firewood provided for a fee.) The wood stove will heat the entire cabin easily, but there are also heaters in each of the rooms as well as propane heat in the cabin too. Firewood must be purchased on site and may not be brought to the cabin by guests. There is also a screen porch with real hard wood floors, (the screen is older but still functional). There is also a back stone patio that also needs work (the stones need to be re-done again).

There is back stone porch and a screen porch on the front of the cabin and we are hoping to redo the back stone porch soon and as well as the front screen porch. We did recently add some nice real river rock/stone to parts of the patio and steps and side walls of the cabin the man who did the work didn't do a good job so we had to tear out a small portion of the stone to do some maintenance work and we need to redo the back stone patio still, so we need to find a new stone mason to fix all of that to make it right.

The cabin is nestled between two nicer and larger cabins. One is only used a few weekends a month and rarely during the week. In the other cabin lives one of the sweetest and nicest older ladies that you could ever want to meet.

Check in time is 4:00 pm until 10 pm and checkout is 11 am. Early check-ins, before 4, or Late check-ins, after 10 pm, and late check-outs, after 11 am, require a $20 per hour fee. Please ask in advance about late check-ins.

No smoking in the cabin. No beer pong or Hookahs. Noise must kept to a minimum and quiet hours are 9 pm to 9 am.

Guests are required to sign a rental agreement upon arrival and a photo ID. For this reason, the person who makes the reservation has to be the there at the time of check-in, unless the contract is signed and arrangements are made for someone else to check-in in advance.

This is rustic cabin... Not a luxury cabin... So make note of this, but we have confidence that this cabin is still perfect for those looking for a real cabin experience. :) Because this is a real cabin, there are things you should expect to find in an older real cabin such as spider webs (we clean them for every guest but they do reappear quickly), ladybugs, insects, tiny critters & stink bug(s) during certain times of the year.

Pets are welcome with a paid pet fee. This is $49 plus tax, per pet.

We do accept one night reservations depending on availability, but there is a two night minimum on weekends (either Friday and Saturday nights or Saturday and Sunday nights unless we are not booked at the last minute, in which case we may allow for a one night stay over a weekend).

All pet fee(s), early/late check-in or late check-out, firewood or extra person fees are not refundable once paid.

Failure to show up/check in or contact owner before midnight of day of arrival will result in cancellation. Host reserves the right to rebook property if guest does NOT contact owner.

About Katie and Steven Robert Jones

We came to Virginia from Texas so I (Steven) could finish my college degree, but got into the vacation rental business by accident. :) We have 4 daughters under the age of 5. We have 6 rescue dogs, 3 rescue cats, 3 ponies, 8 goats & about 50 chickens.

We believe service is what sets us apart in the vacation rental industry. Katie & I personally own every cabin that we manage. We check-in all of our guests personally (sometimes even as late as 2 or 3 in the morning). When you arrive, the lights will be on and you will be welcomed and shown around the cabin, unlike most other rentals where you access a lock box and walk into a dark cold house. This is all we do 24/7 and we want all of our guests to have an amazing stay. We would be honored if you would allow us the opportunity to serve you.

Beautiful and Relaxing

  • 5 of 5

My friend and I loved staying in this little cabin! It was just the right size and had everything we needed to be comfortable. We used the fireplace as well as the fire pit outside. I will definitely rent from them again! We were worried at first about having other cabins so close together but it was surprisingly quiet! The cabin was easy to find and only a short distance from town so we could go shopping. The owners were very nice and willing to take care of any of our needs and they replied quickly! Thank you so much for renting to us! I wish I could give you more than five stars, you deserve it!

The cabin looked nice, but it had a lot of problems.

  • 2 of 5

The Pros:

Wonderfully furnished and very homey. It was right on the stream which was really nice. It was about ten miles from town which was close enough for us to have dinner there and get back to the cabin in like 15 minutes.

The Cons:

They insisted we buy their wood and that we weren't allowed to use wood that wasn't theirs and we figured that was fine so for "four days" of firewood we gave them $40. The wood they provided was a pile about one foot high by two feet deep. It lasted one night, about five hours. Compared to the wood supermarkets sell, we'd have gotten a pile about three or four times that big.

The plumbing was all backed up and you could only flush the toilet once every few hours. The shower drain backed up as well and black crud with it, making the bathroom smell bad enough for us to just keep that door closed at all times.

The lighting was very dim to the point where we had to move lamps around the living room in order to read the books we brought.

Also there were mouse droppings on the stove.

It wasn't the worst place in the world, but I'd pass this one up.

Excellent Location. Right on the creek. Best master bedroom ever.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at this cute little cabin. We loved the fact that this was an actual cabin and not something someone built to look old or look like a cabin. This is the real deal. The location on the creek was perfect and the and the scenery from the master bedroom was perfect. We truly loved about this place. Owners were friendly and attentive. Weather was perfect and A/C worked great. Highly recommended.

Great Romantic Cabin on the Creek

  • 5 of 5

The master bedroom has an extremely comfortable king size bed that overlooks the river. There is a really neat old stained glass window in the master bedroom too. Love the rustic stove and sink in the kitchen. They really made me feel nostalgic for my childhood. Great olace for the kids to go play down by the creek. The master bedroom was place of respite for me to relax and listen to the water in the creek. The fire pit sits right on the creek and there is a picnic table and bench too. There are some huge boulders right in the creek by the fire pit where the kids loved to play and climb on. The cabin was clean and everything was in order. The owners were friendly and quick to respond to any needs. Even the bath towels were arranged in cute little designs. The A/C worked well and kept the cabin nice and cool when it got hot in the middle of the day. The master bedroom is almost all windows facing the creek. The lighting was great and it felt so romantic. We cannot wait to come stay again. This really was the perfect little romantic cabin.

Creekside Cabin, Rawley Springs, VA

  • 3 of 5

Creekside Cabin provided a wonderful weekend getaway. The cabin has some wonderful highs but also some lows that would be easy for the owners to correct.

On the positive side, the location is superb. The cabin is only feet from a mountain stream, and the king size bed in the larger bedroom faces that view through large windows. With windows open the soothing sound of the stream adds to the pleasant atmosphere of the cabin. While there are neighbors close by on both sides, the cabin is situated so that there is privacy outside on the terrace that faces the stream. The neighborhood was very quiet the weekend we were there. Located on a small, dead end street meant very little traffic. Occasionally motorcycles could be heard from the highway a ways off, but it was not obtrusive, even when outside. Except for the single small bathroom the cabin did not feel cramped at all. The large living room with wood stove is comfortable and cozy. The separation of the bedrooms and the amount of living/kitchen/porch space would allow two couples to spread out and not feel cramped.

There are a few downsides that the owners might consider. Water pressure in the shower was totally inadequate. The other plumbing fixtures worked perfectly, but it was hard to get wet and to rinse off with the trickle that came out of the shower head. As I have found in most rentals, there is a motley assortment of pots and pans, but the selection here was odd and incomplete. The owners provide firewood - for a steep fee. I would prefer to pay a bit more in the rental rate and not feel like I was being overcharged for the firewood.

Would I stay there again? Yes.

Perfect escape!

  • 5 of 5

Overall experience was great, It was a very cold weekend but the space heaters and fire place kept us nice and cozy with the single digit temperature!

Great hikes to go on around the area, we were able to get out of the cabin and be active! We left with about 4in of snow on the ground and had no issues getting off the property.

Thank you for a wonderful getaway weekend!
