We love living in North Park and we are also passionate about traveling. Marjorie is an oil painter whose artwork can be viewed in the cottage. Steve is an avid bicyclist who has traveled from coast to coast in the US as well as throughout Europe. Their dog, Maya, loves to hike in the nearby canyons.
Marjorie Taylor purchased this cottage in 2007
We not only bought a vacation rental here, but also live in North Park. The location can't be beat. This eclectic neighborhood offers the best of San Diego.
We love walking to the nearby restaurants, hiking in the canyon or hopping on the bus downtown to catch a ballgame. Its a quick drive to the beach, and just minutes from the Zoo and Balboa Park. Music, Theatre and Art events are within walking distance.
My husband and I stayed in this fabulous, quiet and comfortable cottage for several days on a trip that was exhausting but exciting for us as well. Our son was returning from deployment and we had moved our daughter in law and infant granddaughter back from Las Vegas, so having a very inviting welcoming place to stay and relax after the big reunion was hugely appreciated. The cottage is so lovely and well-equipped with everything you could possibly need! We were greeted with a gift basket on the counter as well as a few thoughtful items in the refrigerator....what a really neat and thoughtful touch that the owners did and we sincerely appreciated it. The back patio was so adorable and relaxing. It easily accommodated 6 of us and a baby when were all together for a bit of a welcome home/birthday celebration for our son. And I have to say Marjorie was so very kind, communicative from the very first email sent many months ago when planning this trip, and quite attentive to all the details. She was also so accommodating. Our oldest son drove down from Laguna Niguel for the homecoming as well and ended up needing a place to stay for the night and Marjorie said it was no problem for him to stay on the sofa/sleeper in the cottage with us. He was really impressed with the cottage as well....thought it was really cool...not to mention in walking distance to some wonderful restaurants. We had to idea just how easy and accessible they were until we ventured out our 3rd night as it was so quiet and relaxing at Marjorie's cottage. We had very easy access to anywhere we need to go. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and since both our sons are stationed in California for a few years, we will be returning for a stay here at this Charming Cottage should there be an opening!!
Maya’s cottage is our home away from home in San Diego.
We find the location to be the perfect setting to explore all that San Diego has to offer.
The cottage is situated in the heart of North Park, a vibrant, fun, growing community. It is close to Balboa Park and an easy drive to anywhere in San Diego, including the beaches.
The cottage is a perfect retreat for two people. It is casual, informal, and charming. It is well equipped with everything that we need in order to be comfortable and enjoy our vacation time. It has a lovely outside courtyard where we can dine and entertain. Best of all, it is decorated with Marjorie’s beautiful paintings!
The owners Marjorie and Steve live next-door and are always on hand to help if needed; always helpful and never intrusive!
We would not consider staying anywhere else!
Where do I begin... This was our first time using any kind of vacation rental. We were a bit nervous since we were not sure what to expect. In the past we have always stayed in hotels which just in NO way compare to this amazing cottage! We stayed for 4 nights and We loved our stay at Maya's cottage. The location was great, close to everything. Marjorie, could not have been more welcoming. She was there when we arrived and gave us the tour and let us know that she was available if we were to need anything. She had left a gift basket in the kitchen and had orange juice, milk and water in the fridge awaiting us. Everything we needed was right there in the house.
We are already planning our return to this home away from home and look forward to another wonderful stay. Thank you Marjorie and Steve! : - )
My husband and I stayed at Maya's Cottage for our honeymoon and couldn't have asked for a more perfect getaway! Steve personally greeted us upon arrival and showed us around the Cottage, which we immediately fell in love with. We were so appreciative of the adorable welcome basket and staple items left in the fridge for us and felt right at home. The cottage is just perfect - Marjorie's artwork is beautiful to look at and the decorations and flowers, both indoors and out, make for a cozy feel. We spent many night cooking meals in the kitchen, relaxing outback, or just enjoying a move indoors but the location was also perfect for walking to check out local breweries or just a quick drive to the zoo or park. Overall, Maya's Cottage was a perfect honeymoon escape for our relaxing week on the west coast and lived up to the 5 star rating and description. Thanks again and can't wait to come back!
We loved our stay at the cottage. The location was great, close to everything and great shops/restaurants within walking distance. The only complaint would be the bed. It was very hard. Overall, we would stay in the same area.
Marjorie was an excellent host and the property had everything required for a comfortable stay. There was a small front and back garden with plants and shrubs which allowed for sitting and dining in the quiet of the area. Centrally located for Bilbao Park, Downtown San Diego and the freeways to the beaches and inland. The area and parking were safe and North PArk provided foe great places to dine.
We were coming from the United Kingdon and it was nothing but easy to deal with Marjorie and make the payments.
