LOCATION....LOCATION....LOCATION. Black Bear Lodge is located in the private community of Hornbuckle/Cranberry Falls between the town of Maggie Valley and the town of Cherokee. The several miles of private roads in this mountainous community are ideal for riders of ATVs. The entire area is surrounded by beautiful mountains, lakes, waterfalls, wildlife, hiking trails, white water rafting opportunities, golf courses, and gorgeous scenery -- just to mention a few.
Black Bear Lodge is only one (1) mile from the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, which has been dubbed 'America's Favorite Drive.' The Haywood County span, with its extraordinarily high elevations, offers motorists breathtaking views of seemingly endless mountain ridges and picturesque valleys, as well as hiking trails. Don't be surprised to see bears, elk, and other wildlife as you drive on the Parkway.
Great Smoky Mountain National Park entrance is just a short drive from Black Bear Lodge. A beautiful drive through the park will end in popular Gatlinburg, TN.
Maggie Valley (www.maggievalley.org) boasts a rich mountain history and has everything you need, including unique shops and restaurants, parks, golf courses, Cataloochee with skiing and horseback riding, Ghost Town, festival grounds, dancing, mini-golf, and elk viewing.....just to mention a few.
Cherokee is just 15 minutes away, with fine restaurants, museums, Indian reservation, and many sources of entertainment, including the well known Harrah's Cherokee Casino.
Downtown Waynesville (east of Maggie Valley and a short drive from Black Bear Lodge) is a vibrant town with fine shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants, tree-lined brick sidewalks, and many popular events.
Asheville is a little further east of Waynesville and has the closest airport.
The Biltmore (an 8,000 acre estate in Asheville with beautiful gardens and very nice restaurants) is very popular.
This brand new 'hideaway' provides rental guests the opportunity for a wonderful vacation in this very special and unique area of western North Carolina.
Four wheel drive vehicle recommended from November-March.
Our family fell in love with Maggie Valley 10 years ago and we have been coming here ever since. We own another rental property in the area. Our other cabin is Serenity Ridge Cabin. The property number on Homeaway is 253420. We are proud of having over 40 excellent reviews, and enjoy talking to our renters and hearing about their wonderful stay at our cabin.
contact01 purchased this cabin in 2005
It is in a beautiful secluded area and only one mile to the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are lots of things to do in the community....like hiking, going on ATV rides and wildlife watching and more.
You are in a very private setting with beautiful views yet only 5-10 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky National Park. This is an excellent location on 6 acres!
Cabin is brand new with all NEW furniture and accessories! Amazingly decorated yet comfortable! No pets or smokers allowed so it's the perfect place for those with allergies. Big back yard for kids. Rental on one level.
Thank you so much for letting us stay at Black Bear Lodge! Beautiful amazing view of the woods and mountains! We will be back!
This property was so secluded, you feel like you are the only person on earth. Beautiful house and location.
Cabin was clean and in a quiet secluded area. Owner was very responsive to any questions or needs.
Black Bear lodge was wonderful. A lot of high end touches. Very comfortable bed and nice linens. My kids slept on the roll away beds and they too were very comfortable with special sheets. It is very private and quiet. There is no stove but there is enough to cook meals.
We stayed in July and just loved the cabin - the privacy, the tasteful decor, the decks, the cleanliness. We would definitely stay again if we come back! This was just perfect for 2 people. Everything was exactly as Ana said it would be and the information she provided was so helpful in getting to the cabin and things to do in the area. We enjoyed Maggie Valley with its restaurants, the Old Grey Mare fruit stand, and driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It wasn't far to Asheville where we saw the Biltmore and went zip lining. Tons to do and we simply couldn't get to it all but thoroughly enjoyed our stay and managed to fit in some relaxation as well.
We absolutely loved the view from the front yard. We never got to see the sun rise or set, but the daily view was breath-taking. ANA is awesome. It was a last minute vacation and she made everything work out for us to stay. House is decorated so adorable inside. We would stay again in a New York minute!
My wife and I spent 5 relaxing nights at the Black Bear Lodge hideaway in May 2016 for an anniversary getaway. Ana was very easy to work with and responded to my questions immediately. Location was excellent for hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains and The Smoky Mountains. Having an entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway so close was convenient for traveling to Waynesville and Smoky Mountains National Park. The Biltmore in Asheville was less than an hour drive and Maggie Valley restaurants were excellent.
The Lodge was as described. Had no problem locating it. Since the upper floors are not finished, the lower level was quiet. Furnishing were comfortable and the kitchen appliances worked great. Glad there is a Keurig coffee machine. Very nice assortment of cooking appliances. Did not use the outdoor grill.
Since the lower level is not designed to be a separate living space once the upper floors are finished, the layout is not ideal. The lighting is poor and all the switches are located together by the utility room. The bedroom is open to the great room and the blower on the heater is loud. Since the heater is next to the TV it is annoying when trying to listen to programs. I know we weren't there to watch television but after 10 miles of hiking everyday we are to tired to go out at night and just wanted to relax. I would have given The Black Bear Lodge a 5 star rating if there was better TV reception, (very poor satellite reception) and WIFI. The driveway was a challenge I accepted each morning. An AWD or 4Wheel Drive vehicle is recommended although the RWD Chevy Equinox I rented made it up every time but I had to be very aggressive. My wife said she would have never made it. There is a second driveway but we never used it.
The view was amazing and the lower and upper decks very relaxing. I recommend Black Bear Lodge for anyone who wants to get away and have great access to amazing views and hiking trails.
There are many activities to do in the area. Golf, hiking, Elk watching, whitewater rafting, scenic train tours, shopping, arts and craft festivals, fishing, Cherokee Fishing Tournament (in August), tubing,
snow tubing, skiing, sledding, archery, gold mining, historic downtown, Zip lining, horse back riding, llama trekking, alpaca farms, apple picking, bird watching, scenic drives, museums, and many more. Asheville is about 40 minutes away and you can see the Biltmore Estate, take a trolley tour of the city as well as visit local farmers markets.
