About the property

Spacious (1,500 sq ft) one-bedroom cabin hideaway with gorgeous mountain view

Everything is brand new in this single-floor 'hideaway' on 8 acres, with a large yard and magnificent mountain views. Rental guests of this spacious 'hideaway' on the ground floor of a lovely 3-story cabin will have total privacy, as the above two floors are not furnished or ready for other occupants.

Enjoy tile floor throughout with area rugs, hallway with adorable Hall Tree for storage and to hang your coats, laundry room with full size washer/dryer, wood blinds at all windows and curtains on door for privacy. All rooms are tastefully decorated with high quality furniture and numerous wall pictures and other 'lodge' decorator items to make guests feel cozy and comfortable.

The living area is very spacious and open with a comfortable sectional sofa in the living room, large flat screen TV, and gas fireplace that vents outside (great for those with allergies).

The dining room provides seating for 6 people, and the well-equipped kitchenette has granite counter top, stainless steel refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, Keurig and Mr. Coffee coffeemakers, etc. A brand new gas grill has been installed on the spacious porch leading to the large lawn and mountain views. You can also get exercise by walking up the outside stairs to the deck on the top floor....where the mountain views are even more spectacular. Two brand new and comfortable rocking chairs are on the deck for your enjoyment.

The bedroom is huge with a king size bed and a beautiful handmade bench at the end of the bed. Two indoor rockers for your convenience as well as two twin size rollaway beds are also available. Nice linen is provided for beds and bathroom.

LOCATION....LOCATION....LOCATION. Black Bear Lodge is located in the private community of Hornbuckle/Cranberry Falls between the town of Maggie Valley and the town of Cherokee. The several miles of private roads in this mountainous community are ideal for riders of ATVs. The entire area is surrounded by beautiful mountains, lakes, waterfalls, wildlife, hiking trails, white water rafting opportunities, golf courses, and gorgeous scenery -- just to mention a few.

Black Bear Lodge is only one (1) mile from the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway, which has been dubbed 'America's Favorite Drive.' The Haywood County span, with its extraordinarily high elevations, offers motorists breathtaking views of seemingly endless mountain ridges and picturesque valleys, as well as hiking trails. Don't be surprised to see bears, elk, and other wildlife as you drive on the Parkway.

Great Smoky Mountain National Park entrance is just a short drive from Black Bear Lodge. A beautiful drive through the park will end in popular Gatlinburg, TN.

Maggie Valley (www.maggievalley.org) boasts a rich mountain history and has everything you need, including unique shops and restaurants, parks, golf courses, Cataloochee with skiing and horseback riding, Ghost Town, festival grounds, dancing, mini-golf, and elk viewing.....just to mention a few.

Cherokee is just 15 minutes away, with fine restaurants, museums, Indian reservation, and many sources of entertainment, including the well known Harrah's Cherokee Casino.

Downtown Waynesville (east of Maggie Valley and a short drive from Black Bear Lodge) is a vibrant town with fine shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants, tree-lined brick sidewalks, and many popular events.

Asheville is a little further east of Waynesville and has the closest airport.

The Biltmore (an 8,000 acre estate in Asheville with beautiful gardens and very nice restaurants) is very popular.

This brand new 'hideaway' provides rental guests the opportunity for a wonderful vacation in this very special and unique area of western North Carolina.

Four wheel drive vehicle recommended from November-March.

About contact01

Our family fell in love with Maggie Valley 14 years ago, and we have been coming here ever since. We own another rental property in the area. Our other cabin is Serenity Ridge Cabin. The property number on Homeaway is 253420. We are proud of having over 40 excellent reviews, and enjoy talking to our renters and hearing about their wonderful stay at our cabin.

contact01 purchased this cabin in 2005

Why contact01 chose Maggie Valley

It is in a beautiful secluded area and only one mile to the entrance to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are lots of things to do in the community....like hiking, going on ATV rides and wildlife watching and more.

What makes this cabin unique

You are in a very private setting with beautiful views yet only 5-10 minutes to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky National Park. This is an excellent location on 6 acres!

Cabin is brand new with all NEW furniture and accessories! Amazingly decorated yet comfortable! No pets or smokers allowed so it's the perfect place for those with allergies. Big back yard for kids. Rental on one level.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I will truly remember this time as the all time greatest!

We had a chance to recognize we need to slow down our busy lives. I loved there was no cell coverage- not even my I-Pad. LOL! We'd like nothing more than to do this again! The only downfall to our trip was having to leave!

Very Relaxing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful, relaxing time at Black Bear Lodge. The cabin is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We enjoyed the views of the sunset each evening. We had no cell service and no internet, which was wonderful. It was truly a getaway.

TRANQUIL LOCATION-A NEW LEVEL OF QUIET & PEACEFUL

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I loved this place. We used it as our base while in the area to observe the solar eclipse. Quiet, tranquil, peaceful. While it does have a couple roll out beds in addition to the king size in the large bedroom, the property in its present state of completion (a large finished basement living area) really best lends itself as a wonderfully simple, romantic place for a couple to relax, unwind and truly enjoy each others company, regardless of age (we are in our early sixties). Accommodations were exactly as represented. No disappointment. The entrance to the unit is above grade and has a great view with a covered porch. Owners were welcoming and dedicated to our enjoyment (they own another property nearby and were at that property when we arrived). Ana even phoned my wife before confirming our reservation request to be sure we had a complete understanding of what steep, gravel mountain roads and dark really meant. We did, having rented such properties many times previously, and we loved every minute. There are two ways in and out of the property, while one is indeed curvy and has some steep areas, I had no problem taking my rear wheel drive convertible Mustang in thru that approach. While we visited during a dry period in August, even if its a rainy time, the alternate access, while about 3 times longer, is a much gentler elevation rise and offers no particular issues. After dark there is virtually no light pollution beyond what is produced by the unit itself. Lack of air conditioning is no problem, just drop open the windows and let nature do its work. By the way, we became acutely aware of how much noise is generated by an air conditioning system- the quiet was truly special. Even with no kitchen stove, with the microwave, electric appliances, indoor electric grill and the very nice outdoor gas grill, you can make it work! Ana even added an electric tea kettle after I asked if she had one. Evenings are wonderful with the ability to view the stars due to a clearing in the trees in the front of the unit. The only two things we thought would improve the property were that wooden Andirondack chairs on the covered porch would be more comfortable for those wonderful long sitting spells and the clearing in front of the porch is missing a fire pit which it is perfect for - but neither of these is a reason to avoid this property. We have this one on our list for future visits to the Asheville area. It really is a winner!!!

Owner's Response: We were lucky to be here and meet you in person when you arrived. It was a pleasure having you both stay at Black Bear Lodge. I am so glad that you both had a great experience. We are taking your advice and getting 2 adirondack chairs in addition to the two rocking chairs we currently have. We are also planning to put out the hammock upstairs so you will have that next time you come. You will also get a discount for being a repeat renter. Looking forward to see you here again!

Such a wonderful place! The view from the back deck was beautiful, the cabin (ground floor) was very nice! The bed was comfortable and it was perfect for a couple getaway. The only thing I missed was some prep space for cooking. A small island would be perfect! And I missed cell phone service more than I thought I would. Other than those two things, it was great! The cabin will be beautiful when finished!!!!!!!
