About Chandy Gaub

The 45th Street Beach House is the second vacation rental that Rob and Heidi own on the Long Beach Peninsula. The first is the Bloomer Mansion. 'We all love the Long Beach WA Peninsula, and frankly we never imagined that the Bloomer Mansion would become so successful that it is rented out nearly every weekend. We actually needed a place to stay when we came to the beach.'

Rob and Heidi both fell in love with the 45th Street Beach House and purchased it in December 2009. It is the perfect size for one or two families, has a fantastic ocean view, a hot tub on the porch, and a large garage, that over time, will be converted to an amazing recreation room.

They are hopeful you will enjoy their second home as much as the Bloomer Mansion - but perhaps not so much that they never get a chance every weekend is booked year round.

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to anyone with a large group. Nicely supplied kitchen for those who enjoy cooking for themselves. we were a group of musicians with plenty of room for string instruments including an upright bass to play in the living room area while the others enjoyed watching the rain. All in all we had a great time with our friends!

There were maintenance problems. The bathroom had towel bars that weren't in place. The couch was really uncomfortable. There wasn't enough silverware to give everyone a set. The deck chairs on the upper deck (off the living area) were all broken. The hot tub had a lock on it, but there wasn't a combination to be found in any of the paperwork. The hike to the beach was a bit long and too much for my folks. And though you could hear the ocean you couldn't see it. The playroom was nice. And after we figured out the t.v. and DVD player it was a nice t.v. I liked that it had a Keurig, food processor, high speed blender and enough pots and pans to cook.

Owner's Response: Hi Corey, after so many glowing reviews it is hard to get one that isn't all 5 stars. 45th street house has dozens if not hundreds of extra amenities, and the owners are diligent about responding to every request. A new fold down sofa being ordered (fold out sleepers are almost never comfortable), we have extra silverware already in the house, towel rack is an easy fix, new deck chairs are on their way. We hand out the hot tub code at the same time as the lock box code early, and we do our best to remind people before they arrive of both codes. The beach path has been cleared, and although it is about 1/4 a mile to the beach it is through a natural pine forest with lots of birds and wildlife. The beach approach is just 5 blocks south so an easy walk or drive. Thanks so much for mentioning the new 55' SmartTVs and a few of the many amenities at the home. When extended family gathers for a week at the beach, the place you stay can either make it or break it. In this case, the 45th St. house made it comfortable and entertaining for everyone from the oldest to the youngest. Everything you might want or need for cooking, sleeping or entertainment was there; large, well-appointed and organized kitchen, large propane bbq, sparkling clean hot tub, TVs in many rooms, a rec room with every toy imaginable including pool, ping pong and xbox, sand toys and kites for the beach ... you name it, it was there. The beds were comfortable so we didn't wake up with aching backs as we always do in the area hotels. Here are a few things to know before you stay though; First, all the amenities for eating are up the stairs, so if you have someone who isn't too mobile, this isn't the home for you. We were up and down those stairs many times each day. (The entrance is downstairs, so there's no way around climbing stairs) Next, the private path to the beach isn't well maintained, so don't attempt it unless you're athletically inclined. First you have to thrash a LONG ways through the woods and then, just as you see an opening and think you're about to the still have to push on a long ways through the tall grass. I'm guessing it's about a 20 - 25 minute tiring walk before you reach sand. Wear mosquito repellent! They'll attack you as soon as you step foot into the trees if you don't. It's a far better deal to drive to the 38th St. beach access, which allows you to park right by the sand. Back to the pluses; there were beautiful deer who stopped by to visit twice a day. Everyone was excited to see them. A small black bear who knew when garbage day (Monday) was stopped by twice. We'd never seen a wild bear before, so even though he was being naughty by attempting to raid the garbage in the middle of the night, there was no danger to anyone and a yell sent him scampering back into the woods. The owners take great pride in supplying all the amenities you could possible need or want. This comes in handy in case of bad weather-there is still plenty to do inside the house. To address the concerns you raised. Yes it is two stories. We do have other homes that are still very close to the ocean and have living space open on the bottom floor if stairs are difficult for anyone in your party. The trail is being cleared as I write this! So sorry about this. The mosquitos are bad as we had record rainfall and the ponds did not disappear until July of this year! So we did not get to the path until late. We have sent two workers out to create a long, wide path all the way to the ocean with as few hindrances as possible. We are glad you had a chance to see the wild life. The bears have been going after garbage cans up and down the peninsula. Fortunately, they are incredibly shy and disappear quickly at the sight or sound of people. However, we are asking everyone to recycle to reduce waste and overfull cans. Most of the light bulbs outside did not work. The supposed walk path to the beach was non-existent. All of the bedroom doors rattled whenever anybody walked up & down the stairs or closed any doors. I did not get one good night of sleep because the rattling doors woke me up anytime anybody moved in the house. A lot of the kids toys were broken and all the outside chairs provided were broken. The beds upstairs were very uncomfortable. I woke up every morning with both my arms numb & asleep.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for bringing this issues to our attention. We are used to 5 star ratings on 45th place so it is indeed rare to get anything less than this. Rest assured we have addressed your issues so future guests can fully enjoy 45th place. While we replaced every indoor light with 20 year LEDs and just added motion detection LED lights in the driveway, we must have missed the porch lights. These are now LED lights as well! As for the rattling doors-they were a bit creaky, but nothing a bit of WD40 didn't fix-and this has been done already. We have a ton of kids toys in the house, so a few were broken and these have been removed and replaced-so sorry about that. On the other hand, we find parents very appreciative of all the toys we provide (cars, trains, dolls, doll house and for bigger kids the 55" LG Smart TV and XBoxOne) as it means less they need to pack. There is a trail to the beach, but it is unmarked, so we are working on adding a few signs so it is easier to fine-it is directly west of the house, next to the fence. We will be calling the future guests to check on the mattresses. Some people prefer firm mattresses and other prefer soft, so we usually try to include a few of each. However, if our future guests feel they are not comfortable we promise to replace immediately! In any case, we are delighted to hear your last 6 visits went without a hitch. For any future guests to 45th or any Bloomer property, please do not hesitate to call us with any issue-we can usually accommodate you while you are here. Thank You Chandy
