About Chandy Gaub

The 45th Street Beach House is the second vacation rental that Rob and Heidi own on the Long Beach Peninsula. The first is the Bloomer Mansion. 'We all love the Long Beach WA Peninsula, and frankly we never imagined that the Bloomer Mansion would become so successful that it is rented out nearly every weekend. We actually needed a place to stay when we came to the beach.'

Rob and Heidi both fell in love with the 45th Street Beach House and purchased it in December 2009. It is the perfect size for one or two families, has a fantastic ocean view, a hot tub on the porch, and a large garage, that over time, will be converted to an amazing recreation room.

They are hopeful you will enjoy their second home as much as the Bloomer Mansion - but perhaps not so much that they never get a chance every weekend is booked year round.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend to anyone with a large group. Nicely supplied kitchen for those who enjoy cooking for themselves. we were a group of musicians with plenty of room for string instruments including an upright bass to play in the living room area while the others enjoyed watching the rain. All in all we had a great time with our friends!

Reviewer Comments:

House was nice and just as advertised. Labeling of all the kitchen storage was appreciated as we did alot of cooking. Trail to beach was as advertised. The only drawback was the neighbor who ran his dirt bike up and down the adjacent lot frequently.

Owner's Response: Hi David, we are so thankful you enjoyed the house. Thank you so much for alerting us to the dirt bikes. This is a relatively new occurrence and we will be alerting our neighbors of the nuisance and bring this to the attention of the county. Kathleen-Bloomer Estates Management

45th Street Beach House

Rating Details:

The property manager was more than helpful.

The vacation rental was very clean.

I was happy with the location.

I was satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

Reviewer Comments:

Although this rental meets a majority of the criteria I look for in a vacation rental, I continue to be disappointed in the condition of the house relative to a $400 per night fee. For example, the deck is approaching a significant safety issue as it wobbles considerably when people walk on it. Second, most the deck chairs are broken and unusable. Third, the carpet in the master bedroom is infested with sharp "burrs" that come from the outside habitat and transferred to the carpeting via people's shoes. It is not advisable to walk barefooted on this carpet. Fourth, the "rec room" smells like a 50-year old musty house in Hoquiam. Collectively, I would not recommend this house to anyone, especially at a $400 per night rate. I have stayed in this house for several years and I will begin my search for alternate accommodations in the community that meet my needs in a 6-night stay at a better value.

Owner's Response: Tony, we are so sorry this house was not to your liking. We have had several perfect 5 star review ratings over the past 10 years of managing this house, so anything less than that is not acceptable. The owner has just spent the last 3 weeks in the house with contractors and has completed the following: attached 40 deck hangers and a set of braces on the deck-we can no longer to get iany wobble or movement 2) broken deck chairs in and around the house removed, replaced with lifetime picnic tables and chairs 3) all flooring except one bedroom and stairs now oak wood vinyl (will finish last carpeting soon) 4) sprayed and will continue to spray for burrs through winter and spring until they are all gone 5) rec room must smell: they removed every last piece of carpet and furniture that could retain a musty smell, pulled windows and replaced shingles and insulation around windows (did not find mold but found a bit of rot) and sealed every crack that could be found along the floor. Anything that could retain the musty smell is now gone. In addition, they replaced the queen bed upstairs with a new King bed, added new bathroom mats, new towel racks, a new LED fireplace, new lamps and end tables in the bedrooms, cleaned out extra storage in rec room to expand the room, cut down trees next to house and cleared the front lawn, cut a wide path to the beach so no more dodging branches, new silverware set, new coffee cups, etc. They are not stopping until it is perfect, so we do hope you will come back again to see all the great changes. We enjoyed the house with our 4 boys and grandparents, ages 12-75. The boys loved the rec room. Kitchen was great for cooking, well stocked. Bathrooms were nice, especially the showerhead upstairs. Comfier seating upstairs would have been nice. We only had two issues. Mosquitos were very bad right outside the door so you can get bit while loading the car, going in the hot tub, etc. Also, it is between two beach access roads, so it's a long walk to the beach. Boys rode bikes which was good, but we ended up driving.

Owner's Response: Hi Christine thanks so much for the review. The owners are committed to new furniture as soon as the summer rush gives them time to get it in the house. The mosquitos are just bad this year-we do provide spray which we hope will help. The path to the beach is being upgraded and cleared to make the walk much easier. We do appreciate the high ratings and stay tuned on our website for the upgrades coming soon to 45th! Kathy-Bloomer Estates Management

The property manager was adequately helpful.

The vacation rental was somewhat dirty.

I was happy with the location.

I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental.

Reviewer Comments:

There were maintenance problems. The bathroom had towel bars that weren't in place. The couch was really uncomfortable. There wasn't enough silverware to give everyone a set. The deck chairs on the upper deck (off the living area) were all broken. The hot tub had a lock on it, but there wasn't a combination to be found in any of the paperwork. The hike to the beach was a bit long and too much for my folks. And though you could hear the ocean you couldn't see it. The playroom was nice. And after we figured out the t.v. and DVD player it was a nice t.v. I liked that it had a Keurig, food processor, high speed blender and enough pots and pans to cook.

Owner's Response: Hi Corey, after so many glowing reviews it is hard to get one that isn't all 5 stars. 45th street house has dozens if not hundreds of extra amenities, and the owners are diligent about responding to every request. As of November 2nd 2017 the the owner has just spent the last 3 weeks in the house with contractors and has completed the following: attached 40 deck hangers and a set of braces on the deck-we can no longer to get any wobble or movement 2) broken deck chairs in and around the house removed, replaced with lifetime picnic tables and chairs 3) all flooring except one bedroom and stairs now oak wood vinyl (will finish last carpeting soon) 4) sprayed and will continue to spray for burrs through winter and spring until they are all gone 5) rec room must smell: they removed every last piece of carpet and furniture that could retain a musty smell, pulled windows and replaced shingles and insulation around windows (did not find mold but found a bit of rot on trim), sealed every crack that could be found along the floor and stained the stair case. Anything that could retain a musty smell is now gone. In addition, they replaced the queen bed upstairs ( a few people found it uncomfortable) with a new King bed, added new bathroom mats, new towel racks, a new LED fireplace, new lamps and end tables in the bedrooms, cleaned out extra storage in recreation room to expand the room, cut down trees next to house and cleared the front lawn, cut a wide path to the beach so no more dodging branches, new silverware set, new coffee cups, oven mitts and more. They are not stopping until the house is "perfect", so we do hope you will come back again to see all the great changes. Kathy-Bloomer Estates Management

Reviewer Comments:

When extended family gathers for a week at the beach, the place you stay can either make it or break it. In this case, the 45th St. house made it comfortable and entertaining for everyone from the oldest to the youngest. Everything you might want or need for cooking, sleeping or entertainment was there; large, well-appointed and organized kitchen, large propane bbq, sparkling clean hot tub, TVs in many rooms, a rec room with every toy imaginable including pool, ping pong and xbox, sand toys and kites for the beach ... you name it, it was there. The beds were comfortable so we didn't wake up with aching backs as we always do in the area hotels. Here are a few things to know before you stay though; First, all the amenities for eating are up the stairs, so if you have someone who isn't too mobile, this isn't the home for you. We were up and down those stairs many times each day. (The entrance is downstairs, so there's no way around climbing stairs) Next, the private path to the beach isn't well maintained, so don't attempt it unless you're athletically inclined. First you have to thrash a LONG ways through the woods and then, just as you see an opening and think you're about to the still have to push on a long ways through the tall grass. I'm guessing it's about a 20 - 25 minute tiring walk before you reach sand. Wear mosquito repellent! They'll attack you as soon as you step foot into the trees if you don't. It's a far better deal to drive to the 38th St. beach access, which allows you to park right by the sand. Back to the pluses; there were beautiful deer who stopped by to visit twice a day. Everyone was excited to see them. A small black bear who knew when garbage day (Monday) was stopped by twice. We'd never seen a wild bear before, so even though he was being naughty by attempting to raid the garbage in the middle of the night, there was no danger to anyone and a yell sent him scampering back into the woods. We'll be bac

Owner's Response: Hi Lawrence, Thanks so much for the long and detailed review! We thank you for all the great compliments. The owners take great pride in supplying all the amenities you could possible need or want. This comes in handy in case of bad weather-there is still plenty to do inside the house. To address the concerns you raised. Yes it is two stories. We do have other homes that are still very close to the ocean and have living space open on the bottom floor if stairs are difficult for anyone in your party. The trail is being cleared as I write this! So sorry about this. The mosquitos are bad as we had record rainfall and the ponds did not disappear until July of this year! So we did not get to the path until late. We have sent two workers out to create a long, wide path all the way to the ocean with as few hindrances as possible. We are glad you had a chance to see the wild life. The bears have been going after garbage cans up and down the peninsula. Fortunately, they are incredibly shy and disappear quickly at the sight or sound of people. However, we are asking everyone to recycle to reduce waste and overfull cans. In any case, thanks for a long detailed review. We promise, the next time you are back, the trial will be clear! Kathy-Bloomer Estates Management
