About Carole or Bill Meyer

Bill, the retired lawyer in our family, and Carole, the artist of the two, have been married for over 30 years. One of the greatest and most fun adventures of our marriage has been buying and building our much loved home in San Miguel de Allende. Though having traveled to many other parts of the world, we have always been drawn to Magical Mexico! San Miguel has given us another life, new friends and a new second language ( more or less!!!) Over the last 20 years, we have spent approximately 4 years total time living in San Miguel. Be warned.....upon our first visit of 10 days, we returned home and promptly started to dream and scheme on how we could get back to this wonderful little town in the mountains. Let it be said, like may before us, we fell (hard) under the spell of San Miguel de Allende! Bill and Carole

Carole or Bill Meyer purchased this villa in 1995

Why Carole or Bill Meyer chose San Miguel de Allende

We fell so in love with the town and with our location......love the San Juan de Dios Church and the beautiful gardens around it! The weather, people, food and cultural activities were all there for us to enjoy. Building and decorating out home was great fun and a wonderful learning experience.

What makes this villa unique

Oh my God.....let me list the ways! Well, TIME.... Time to spend with old friends, leisurely lunches, enjoying the perfect weather, taking some classes, the fresh food, the new friends, both Mexican, American, Canadian, Italian, etc, etc!! We love our home....it has been a work in progress that took several years to complete. (This means we did spend many months actually working our tails off!) But now.....it is massages, dips in the pool, manicures, pedicures, FABULOUS food prepared by Terri ....AND.....I never clean, change a bed, wash a dish.......you get the idea.....makes it hard to come back home to Portland!!! Carole

Guestbook comments from the manager

Hello Bill and Carole,

I’ve been wanting to email you both since we arrived 2 days ago, but my head has been spun in so many different directions, I’m only now finding the time!

I wanted to tell you both just how magnificent your home in San Miguel de Allende is, and just how much we all appreciate every single detail that you’ve thought of. It’s such a pleasure to spend our time in your home, and we truly love it as our own…so much so that we rarely get out the door until well after noon!

Teresa and Rosa are wonderful as well, and their attention to detail, as well as our wishes, is above and beyond.

The city itself is pure magic, and we’re exploring more every day!

You two have really done it right, and I just wanted to let you know how grateful we are to be able to stay in your marvelous home away from home!

All the best,

Christmas in San Miguel Allende

  • 4 of 5

We had a magical Christmas at the Meyers's Casita in San Miguel Allende.

The house is beautiful and comfortable. Recent renovations have added to the overall beauty of the house. The neighborhood is fantastic as you are minutes from a huge market (we returned often for more limes for our margaritas) with everything from produce to clothing to plants. Directly across the plaza from a beautiful church allows you to be part of the kids coming and going to school and the beauty of the goings on of the church.

Once inside the church you enter the beautiful tiled kitchen. We used this room often and only wished there was more light for this room.

It was unfortunate the the large house on the property was also rented so our windows to the courtyard (a big selling feature for us) were closed and locked as to not bother the other renters but it also gave us a closed in feeling with not a lot of fresh air.

My husband and I used the first floor bedroom which is spacious and beautiful with its own lovely bath, but it had no window and therefore no venting.

We had a momentary issue with hot water and as soon as I alerted the management company they were on it and it was in working order immediately. That Management Company also arranged for our pickup and departure from the airport, shopping for groceries for us, arranged to have a lovely woman: Rosa who works in the home prepare us a wonderful Christmas dinner and at last minute arranged a for a car with English speaking driver to take us to Guanajuana. (He was amazing...smart, funny, kind, great driver)

The house has another beautiful bedroom and bath and a two lovely living rooms, one with bath. We entertained in the living room without the big TV and felt right at home.

The owners are attentive to your every need and you can tell their attention to every detail shows how much they love their home. San Miguel and it's people are amazing. Every single person cold not have been more helpful with a smile and a kind word.

The only caution to San Miguel Allende is the cobblestone streets for anyone with a walking problem. Safety was never an issue.

We would love to return to both San Miguel and this Casita.

Owner's Response: Cynthia, Thanks for the very nice review you posted. We appreciate all your comments and observations. Just a few notes on a couple of points you made. As you can understand, on the few occasions where the main house and the casita are occupied by different groups, we need to provide for the privacy of BOTH groups. Casita guests would otherwise be able to look out on the patio, pool, and garden where main house guests were relaxing. But, more importantly, main house guests could look into the casita master bedroom or the mid‐level TV room (unless the interior drapes were drawn). Actually, this does not often occur‐‐‐‐‐in 2016 before your visit, we had only one other time when different guest groups were in the two homes simultaneously. Obviously, when a larger group rents the entire home, there is no issue. Because the ground floor of the casita is “below grade” at the back, there is unfortunately no way we could provide a window. To help with air circulation there is a standing floor fan, and some guests leave the bedroom door open to the kitchen/dining room area and open the window that looks out onto Beneficencia Street. On the top floor, when different parties occupy the two parts of our home (as was the case during your visit), the doors/windows overlooking the patio and garden are closed, but the door to the terrace on the front of the house can be left open for air circulation. Thanks again, Bill and Carole

Fabulous home, great location, helpful hosts, check bedroom configuration for your group

  • 4 of 5

My husband and I spent a week at Casa Carole (the main house and the casita) with 3 other couples. The home is stupendous. We enjoyed all the outdoor space, the large great room adjoining the kitchen, and the wonderfully convenient location. I recommend this home for all those reasons. We were expecting to find 4 private bedrooms suitable for 4 couples that were not too different in desirability. On our arrival it was a bit surprising to find there is a terrific master suite in the main house and another one in the casita. The other 2 private bedrooms were located in the ground floor of each of the houses and, while they were very attractive and comfortable, neither has any windows. The terraces (which are fabulous), are off of or above the master bedrooms. Our group drew straws to assign bedrooms. Two couples won the lottery and stayed in the incredible 2 master bedrooms. The other two couples stayed in the windowless bedrooms - we used them only for sleeping. There are 2 other bedrooms - one with 2 twin beds adjoins a master - it would work great for kids. The other one is in a public area outside in the covered portion of the courtyard. Again, as long as this configuration of bedrooms works for your group, the house is unbelievably fabulous.

Owner's Response: Hello Christina, Thank you for the lovely 4 star review. We appreciate that very much. I know it is difficult to find a home with four very similar bedrooms. We do have photos of all the bedrooms on our website as well as state the size of the beds. The main house has three bedrooms all with their own bathrooms. On the top floor is the master bedroom with a king bed. There is also a separate guest bedroom on this level with two twin beds. A second guest bedroom is on the lower level, and it has a queen bed. This guest room has windows on both the north and south sides that will open if wanted. The casita has another beautiful master bedroom with a king bed and a private bath. The casita guest bedroom is on the lower level with a queen bed and indeed this room does not have a window. But because it is at the back of the house, you normally hear very little street noise. The room you refer to as the other bedroom is actually not a bedroom but an open outdoor room (sala abierta) with a view out over the pool and garden. It has no doors. Thus, the queen size bed there is only intended as a day bed for siestas and is not considered to be one of our bedrooms. I am glad you enjoyed our home and San Miguel. We have rented homes in several countries and have yet to find a home where our group feels that all the bedrooms are equal....and we end up drawing straws too! Sincerely, Carole

Casa Carol and Casita Top Norch

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at Casa Carole , just the 4 of us, two couples. This is a stupendous property. If you are wanting to explore San Miguel De Allende and want to pamper yourself, book this property now! It has everything: location-walk everywhere, grandeur, comfortable beds with sumptuous linens, house hold staff (download google translate if you you don't speak Spanish) to take care of your every need including breakfast and lunch if you like, cozy nooks to read by the fire, several outdooor sleeping or lounging options, views from multiple rooftop terraces and every bedroom is ensuite. Hire a chef in for dinner? They have that. Need a mariachi band to play on your courtyard? They can do that. This is truly living at its finest in one of the prettiest safest spots in Mexico I have ever been.

fantastic home, fantastic stay

  • 5 of 5

My five girlfriends and I enjoyed a wonderful week in Casa Carole to celebrate our big Birthdays! It is a beautiful home that truly brings to life the spirit of Mexico. Teresa and Rosa (our maids) were attentive and helpful. We also very much enjoyed San Miguel and would encourage all to have Angelica Tours assist with in home massages, facials, pedicures as well as day outings and other activities. it was an amazing stay.

Beautiful home, lovely city

  • 5 of 5

Bill,

Just wanted you to know that we spent a remarkable week at Casa Carole. My wife and I were so taken with la Casa and la Casita, and so impressed by the care, the attention to detail, and the artistic touches that you and Carole have lavished on your homes.

Whilst San Miguel lived up to its reputation, Casa Carole exceeded any expectations we may have had prior to experiencing it. It's a lovely place. And Teresa and Rosa were excellent 'hosts'! By the time we left they felt like family.

Thank you for sharing Casa Carole and La Casita. One day we hope to return, primero Dios....

Family Feeling

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a family get together to celebrate my wife's 60th birthday. There were 8 of us and we were amazed upon entering this spectacular home. We immediately felt right at home, it was elegant, warm and relaxing. What made it even better was the friendly and caring staff. The housekeepers Rosa and Teresa became part of our extended family. They kept the home clean and neat. We requested they prepare breakfast for a few days plus a dinner. Their cooking could rival a meal from a Michelin Star chef. The most difficult time we had at this perfect home was saying goodbye to Rosa and Teresa. We congratulate Bill and Carole Meyer for having established this diamond of a home in a city that is known for its art and beauty.
