About Brenda Gunderson

My partner Dave and I are both native to the Northwest and currently live in Portland. I am a Artist, Realtor and a Portland native, and Dave is a semi-retired commercial fisherman and marine electrician from Alaska.. so of course he loves the coast. We like to buy and fix up properties and have some other rentals in Portland, so it made sense to us to rent out our beach house to help cover the cost of owning a vacation home. In the 6 years we have been doing short-term rental in Manzanita, we have enjoyed the experience of sharing our little piece of Oregon paradise. We keep pretty busy, but whenever we think we might be too busy to head off to the coast, we just take one look at our dog and picture him running down the beach through the surf and the decision is made.

Why Brenda Gunderson chose Manzanita

One of our favorite things about our beach home is the location. We love Manzanita. It isn't as touristy as many beach towns, but there are enough shops and restaurants to entertain us and everyone is friendly. The little grocery store in the middle of town seems to have everything and the Sand Dune pub often has excellent food and live music (and they let dogs come through to sit on the back deck). The open stretch of beach is amazing and protected from the wind and weather somewhat by nearby Neakahnie Mountain, but we still get enough wind to attract Kiteboarders on some afternoons. Speaking of mountains, the trailhead is only 5 minutes away and we enjoy hiking to the top for exercise and taking in the amazing view. We love to crab/fish in Nehalem Bay, bike/walk at the nearby statepark or head 20 minutes North to watch the surfers at Oswald West State park and explore the caves. Another favorite past time is antique shopping in Wheeler just 10 minutes south, or collecting driftwood and mussels at Manahattan Beach wayside near Rockaway about 20 minutes south. We love the privacy and quiet our home offers too for the times we just want to hang out and relax. I don't think we've ever come here and not enjoyed ourselves.

What makes this house unique

With the warmth inside and set back in the trees, a few blocks from the beach, the storm can be raging and you'll feel safe and warm. With the bright decor you are uplifted, even on the gloomiest days. On sunny days you can catch rays on the private back deck and hardly know the wind is blowing or that nearby neighbors even exist. It is a second home for us, not just a vacation rental and we think this feeling of 'home' will shine through, from the decor to the books, games, kids toys and well stocked kitchen, you'll have everything you need to snuggle in and feel comfortable.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a wonderful Happy Birthday Sarah Weekend. The weather was beautiful, we enjoyed kite flying on the beach, local crabs & oysters for dinner and all around everything about this cozy fun beach house! We hope to be back for more fun, more soaks n the hot tub, more foosball tournaments and fires on the deck.

Clean & Cozy - Great for a big group!

  • 5 of 5

This was a great house for our group of girls - lots of space and thoughtful amenities. Dog towels, beach mats, etc. We cooked most meals at the house and found the kitchen stocked with everything we needed. Bedrooms were super cozy and clean. The patio was very private with lots of outdoor seating. Walk to town was maybe 5 minutes with walk to the beach even shorter. Our host Brenda was helpful and responsive. GREAT spot! Thank you again Brenda! Hope to stay here again!

Perfect Home for a Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

This house has it all. Close to the beach and town, beautifully decorated from top-to-bottom, tons of dishes and cookware, outdoor dining, hot tub, and seclusion. We had an amazing family trip. It absolutely couldn't have been more perfect.

Fabulous Beach Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

I have stayed at this house four years in a row now, and my friends and I LOVE it!! It is beautiful and spacious. We really appreciate the multiple levels; perfect for a large family get together, but also for a ladies getaway, which is what I do. I spend my birthday here with friends for a long, hot tubby weekend. Brenda, the owner, is wonderful and flexible, and always available to answer questions. I had to call her a couple of times during my first stay, and she helped me figure out all of my questions about the sound system (it is actually easy to figure out; I just struggle a bit with new technology.)

We used to find a new place to stay each year, but after staying here the first year, we don't want to go anywhere else! Each year when I ask my friends if we should try someplace new, the answer is a unanimous, "No way!" We really look forward to staying in this lovely house all year long!!

Beautiful, clean, very well thought out - - Not a thing wrong and OH, so many things done right!!

  • 5 of 5

Have stayed at multiples of VRBO homes in three countries - This one is at the top! Clean, comfortable and easy! Wonderful instructions on anything needed and nothing out of place. Wonderful artistic touches throughout. Brenda was easy to communicate and always prompt to respond with the very few questions we had. Warm, inviting, clean, organized. Very happy with our stay.

Great Fall Coastal Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We like to head to the coast during the fall to partake in crabbing and clamming, and this house is great place to return to after a day in Tillamook bay. There is plenty of space to relax (the hot tub also helps) and the kitchen is great if you want to stay in and cook. The house is in the quieter north part of Manzanita, but is is a short walk to the beach and shops. There's also a fairly large driveway, which is good to know since there is no parking on the streets in Manzanita. I would like to stay here again.
