About Susan C
We are an Italian-German Family, living partly in Italy, partly in Asia. We have renovated two over 200 year old properties in Pizzo. After a successful introduction of our "Palazzo Pizzo Residence" we are now welcoming guests at the "Dependence delle Grazie" and at "Studio Bellavista". All three vacation rentals are located in the centro storico di Pizzo Calabro.
Susan C purchased this Apartment in 2006
Why Susan C chose Pizzo
Why Pizzo? - The location is superb, the people are friendly, the life is simple, the food tastes delicious, the ice cream is the best, the climate is healthy, the prices are moderate, the beach is in walking distance, time stands still, Italy as we love it, and the international airport is only 25km away!
What makes this Apartment unique
Once you are inside the palazzo and take a look above the sea, you are hocked. The apartment is centrally located downtown of the centro storico but with its location on the edge of the cliff you can enjoy serene scenery and amazing views. Pizzo has a healthy and relaxing climate. The location is serene, quiet, peaceful, picturesque and romantic. Just 3 minutes walk from bustling, lively main piazza (which is quiet between 2pm-5pm as well) but getting busier and busier in summer nights after 9pm. In August there a many performances on stage. Pizzo, other than more touristic places in Calabria like Tropea, is not as much deserted outside the main holiday season as the Pizzitani live in their village all year round. Even centro storico is becoming more and more popular with local families who are re-discovering the charm of their village. Even in winter it is not deserted. While in Pizzo you can taste the world famous tartufo ice cream that was invented here. It worth the whole trip. Or if you prefer a more savoury tastes, then you are right in Calabria. The delicious tomato with sweet red onions are a favorite light lunch dish. Calabrians like to cook with chili and garlic. The town also has an old little castello with an museum and around 10 churches to visit. All our favorite restaurants and bars, all in walking distance. If you rent a car, we have ideas for day trips for you as well. Calabria is a beautiful, hidden gem!

Wonderful Palazzo, wonderful hosts, wonderful town
The palazzo was exactly as expected, beautiful, spotless and in the perfect location in Pizzo. The hosts Susan and Angelo, as well as their on-location helpers Tonino and Carmela took care of every need we had promptly. The sweeping views from the balcony as well as the windows throughout the palazzo were magnificent. The bed was extremely comfortable. The weather was a little humid when we were there, but there was a dehumidifier, which was extremely helpful. The rental had pretty much everything you needed for a comfortable week. We did not cook except for coffee and breakfast, but it looked like it was a well equipped kitchen to make all the meals. The only thing of note was the location of the bathroom, which was around the corner from the bedroom, up some rough concrete steps. There is no railing from the bedroom to the bathroom on those stairs, for those who are not as steady on their feet, probably not the most suitable setup. Even the bathroom has a view of the sea!!!
Thank you Susan, Angelo, Tonino and Carmela, for this wonderful stay, we look forward to coming back to Pizzo, and hope to stay with you again!
Dear Flora, thank you for your kind review. We are happy that you had a pleasant stay together with your friends who booked the other apartment. We are looking forward to welcome you back in Pizzo one day. Thank you for pointing out the handrailing which we could indeed extend.
Wonderful stay in a lovely apartment with stunning view from the veranda
Very stylishly decorated apartments with accentuated elements of the original old masonry, equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable stay at the modern level. All rooms overlook the sea from a height of about 20 meters. The most wonderful corner of the apartment is a spacious veranda with stunning sea views and the opportunity to admire the sunrises and sunsets, as well as views of the Stromboli volcano, when it appears from the haze over the sea. Great location 5 minutes walk from the Central square with lots of restaurants, cafes and shops, despite the apartment is very quiet. Good city beach within walking distance and stunning sandy and relatively deserted beach a couple of kilometers from the city center. A big plus is the garage where you can park your car, because parking in ancient cities is not easy. Not for elderly and people with disabilities because of the two-level layout and a large number of steps. We are very grateful to Susanna and Angelo for their hospitality, care and assistance in the development of a new for us living space.
Thank you very much for choosing to stay with us and your fantastic review. We hope to see you again in Pizzo!
Perfect vacation spot overlooking the sea
We felt welcomed from the moment we pulled up. Tonino, Carmella, and her granddaughter, Greta met us upon arrival, showed us the lay of the land and welcomed us to Pizzo. Susan, the host has finely appointed the house with everything you need. She and Angelo, were always accessible. The sunsets were beautiful, the location is great...and the decor impeccable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this quaint apartment! We will definitely be back.
Dear Angela, thank you so much for your lovely review. We are looking forward to welcome you back!
An amazing apartment
What an amazing apartment and what a wonderful warm caring and friendly host! I enjoyed a week relaxing in this lovely apartment after a busy 12 day tour of Sicily. I had been communicating with Susanne for some time before my stay in Pizzo and was really looking forward to my stay. All my expectations were met and then some. Now home on a cold 11c degree day if I close my eyes I can be back on the lovely terrace in the sunshine looking at that blue, blue sea.
The apartment is incredible in that you feel like you are suspended above the sea which is the view from all windows even the cute bathroom. The apartment has been fitted out with modern fixtures and there is everything you will need for a very enjoyable stay - the kitchen is great.
Pizzo is a lovely town which provided enough in the way of meandering streets and cafes, restaurants etc to keep me entertained for the week. The ice cream sold at the cafes in the town square is a feature of this town. I happened upon a wonderful jewellery shop called SMAK which introduces the concept of bringing art into jewellery. If you are looking for something different - this is the place.
Susanne arranged for Concetta who runs a taxi service to meet me at the station and I then arranged for her to drive me back to the airport upon my departure. She is a lovely person and although apologised for her lack of English, was quite easy to communicate with. I would like to say thank you to Susanne, Tononi and Concetta for making my stay so enjoyable and fully recommend this wonderful apartment.
Thank you very much for your kind words and wonderful review! We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay with us in Pizzo. I am still impressed about you travelling all the way from Australia to Europe and through Italy by yourself. Thank you very much again for choosing our apartment! What a pity, we did not meet in person. All the best and warm saluti from Pizzo!
What a beautiful property with lovely people (Susan and Angelo) managing it! My husband and I so enjoyed our 4 night stay here. We were very comfortable and everything that we needed was provided. The view out of all the windows and from the outside terrace were just amazing! We will have those views and all the memories of that special little town for years to come! Thank goodness for cell phone cameras to keep those memories with us! Thanks for a great stay!
Mille grazie Mara for your kind words! We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us while in Calabria!
Rejuvenate by the Sea
From the warm Calabrian welcome of Tonino to the amazing views from every window, this apartment exceeds any photo and is grand beyond belief.
Well appointed, the kitchen calls to your own exploration of local ingredients which the shop keepers just out side the main piazza are extremely helpful with. They are eager to share recipes & tastes.
Susanne's book of recommendations was a great place to start and we found the local waiters at L'ercole gelatorria could assist in connecting you from Ape taxis ( a must do on the narrow streets - beats any ride at Disney) and fishing. Dani at Calabria Sport Fishing provided a local experience of catching tuna in Tyranean sea.
We would highly recommend staying at the Palazzo in early October as the weather was warm, a day at the beach still possible and few crowds so a seat for gelato was always available. Though we had no car, I would recommend it if you want to explore the surrounding areas.
Grazie Susanne and Tonino for a rejuvenating week!
Fantastic tips! Grazie for staying at our residence in Pizzo.
