About Joan Morykin

I am an avid runner and cyclist and the mother of two young children. My husband is an artist who also has his studio in the building where we also run an art gallery and full service restaurant (currently on hiatus).

Joan Morykin purchased this mill in 2004

Why Joan Morykin chose Poconos

I first visited Jim Thorpe on a weekend get away from New York City in 1998 and immediately fell in love with the town - its proximity to New York and Philadelphia was perfect for a weekend retreat and I bought a small weekend house. A number of years later, my artist husband was looking for studio space and we purchased a 15,000 sq. ft. former wireworks factory and spent six years fixing up the building. As an avid runner, the beautiful mountain trails still hold a fascination for me every time I go out. This town is perfect to raise a family - there is an old fashioned candy store, a classic 5&10 and easy access to the Lehigh River and a recreational lake park, skiing and cycling.

What makes this mill unique

Outdoor lovers can access an extensive trail system connecting a quarter-mile from the loft to enjoy bicycling, running, hiking, or cross-country skiing. Uniquely artistic, comfortable, and spacious loft accompanied a wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

Wow, there are so many things to like about this converted factory loft and location. This was our first visit to the area and it did not disappoint. Joan and Victor were great to work with and so gracious as they allowed us to see their art studio, gallery, and restaurant with underground stream. The whole experience was quite unexpected (in a good way), but made the stay extra-special. Our dog came along on the trip and we could walk with him down to the local restaurants and coffee houses or relax with him on the front or back patios. We like adventure so we brought our bicycles and rode to nearby towns, biked the river trails while enjoying the beautiful scenery alongside picturesque waterfalls, and swan in a local lake. The town of Jim Thorpe also provided a historical setting with museums and tours. We would definitely recommend it to others and would stay again. Thanks for making our visit so special!

Excellent time in this beautiful loft! Our second visit in a few months...

  • 5 of 5

We had yet another wonderful visit at this beautiful loft in Jim Thorpe! The owners are a delight to work with and we love the loft and it's location. This is our 2nd trip staying here in a very short period of time. This time we had our five children with us. It was so roomy for us, the kids liked the big open loft feel and the unbelievable space in the main entry area. They danced, played hide-n-seek, rode their scooters, played school, and just enjoyed that added space on top of the large loft itself. Everything went great and we wouldn't hesitate to come back and stay again. Thank you so much for sharing this really unique vacation home with us. Great location. Great home. Great people! Thank you!

A fantastic getaway!.

  • 5 of 5

This is a spacious and very special loft apartment in a renovated mill and Joan is a wonderful and gracious host. Upon arriving, she gave us a full tour of the mill, including the art studio, gallery space, outdoor patio and the underground stream. And the apartment is HUGE and both cozy and chic. It was a hot weekend when we visited, so we spent a lot of time inside the apartment-- but this didn't bother us at all. Just being in this very special space was fun and relaxing.

Wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I spent four days in this most interesting place. If you love art, architecture, old interesting things, this is the place for you.

The place could have easily fit many more people but the two of us really loved the place. I especially enjoyed having the nice back patio all to myself at nights sipping wine. I would recommend the place highly. Can't thing of one thing bad.

Beautiful vacation rental in a great location! Thank you!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful weekend getaway at this beautiful loft in Jim Thorpe, PA! We needed a few relaxing days with just the two of us, and boy did we find the perfect place. The apartment/loft is located in a wonderful spot, quiet yet within walking distance to everything you may need. The owners were wonderful and easy to work with prior, during, and after our trip. The reviews we had read in advance about the artwork throughout the loft and the downstairs art museum don't say enough.....these pieces are truly beautiful, breathtaking, and you just want to spend hours looking through it all. And I am not an extremely artsy person either! They are just that stunning to see!

As for the loft, well...we booked it already for another trip (longer trip) later in August to bring our kids along as well! We can't wait to come back! The space is huge, open, airy....the floors are beautiful, the air conditioning was wonderful for such hot days, the bathroom is huge, kitchen and dining areas are as well. The loft area the kids will be in, I can't wait for them to see. I know they will enjoy their space and love being able to just walk a short way down the hill to several little shops and restaurants. There's so much to do in this small town and the surrounding areas, that we already overbooked with our plans in August and have to pick and choose what to cut out.

Thank you again to Joan and her family for having us. Your loft is just wonderful! See you again later this month....

Sincerely,

Cindy & Michael

Perfect House, Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Joan's house and it was awesome! It was in a perfect area of town for hiking, about 5 minute walk from the start of all of the trails. It was also about 15 minute walk from the main restaurants and ares in the town. Huge apartment, excatly what we needed, and Joan was super nice, helpful, and available all weekend!
