About Joan Morykin

I am an avid runner and cyclist and the mother of two young children. My husband is an artist who also has his studio in the building where we also run an art gallery and event venue space.

Joan Morykin purchased this mill in 2004

Why Joan Morykin chose Jim Thorpe

I first visited Jim Thorpe on a weekend get away from New York City in 1998 and immediately fell in love with the town - its proximity to New York and Philadelphia was perfect for a weekend retreat and I bought a small weekend house. A number of years later, my artist husband was looking for studio space and we purchased a 15,000 sq. ft. former wireworks factory and spent six years fixing up the building. As an avid runner, the beautiful mountain trails still hold a fascination for me every time I go out. This town is perfect to raise a family - there is an old fashioned candy store, a classic 5&10 and easy access to the Lehigh River and a recreational lake park, skiing and cycling.

We loved this loft-- the bathroom is like a spa and it was so convenient to walk to everything in town.

Large, bright loft space

  • 4 of 5

This loft is spacious and interesting with great art works, books, and games that make staying in enjoyable. The bathroom is great too! The space is heated by a wood stove and space heater which work really well but the space is so large that we did have to use blankets in the living area in the evenings. The bedroom was toasty but wish they had a king sized bed. We love the staying here and enjoyed walking into town and hiking in the area. We had a great breakfast at Through the Looking Glass and a great dinner at Moya. Check out the Absinthe Bar - great drinks and great bartender.

Cozy and wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely visit to this place. Victor and Joan were so nice during our brief stay. We came to Jim Thorpe for our wedding anniversary and had a really peaceful and fun time seeing the town and hiking the falls trail. I loved taking photographs throughout the surrounding area. The weather was perfect and the accommodations were cozy and super interesting. We'd stay again in a heartbeat.

Great stay

  • 5 of 5

The loft was open, spacious and very clean and comfortable. Joan was gracious, welcoming and promptly helpful when we had a question. The town was easily accessible on foot. Access to Victor's art gallery was an unexpected treat and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Unique experience (in a good way)!

  • 5 of 5

Ironically, we initially booked this place because, of all reasons, they had a last minute vacancy and would accept our dog. I had no idea that the apartment and visiting the amazing building it is built into would be one of the highlights of our trip to Jim Thorpe. Joan and Victor, the owners, were so gracious in sharing the space beyond the apartment itself, allowing us to visit the art gallery, and the courtyard. We are huge fans of Victor's art now and encourage anyone who enjoys fine art to visit. The apartment was spacious, clean, and comfortable with a beautifully renovated bathroom. There was also a big room with a foosball table which the kids used a lot; choreographing dance routines and turning cartwheels---that's how big it was. That room was not technically part of the apartment but there did not seem to be any concern about us using it, so use it we did. We are already thinking of a return trip to see leaves changed and hope to return to this apartment if there are openings.

Clean, spacious, convenient

  • 5 of 5

This property was great! It was clean and spacious just as pictured. It's a little less than a mile away from the down town area making it walkable to restaurants and shops. It's also very close to nearby lakes and hiking. Overall, I would definitely stay here again!
