The home is located on M119 Heritage Highway (bring your bicycle) with 165 feet of frontage on Lake Michigan for beach activities. The 3 acre property is half dune and half forest. The boat launch is 1 mile away. There are many hiking trails through area forests and conservancy properties. The village offers a post office, general store-gas station, churches, and restaurants. There are several artists in the neighborhood with opportunities for classes/workshops. Multiple golf courses are a short drive away. Medical care is available in nearby Petoskey. Mackinac City and ferries to Mackinac Island are less than a 1/2 hr. drive. An eclectic variety of activities abounds in the area: watch a polo match, attend a concert at Bay View, go to a casino, climb a dune, shop, eat in one of many area restaurants, or just tuck in with a puzzle or good book.
This is a 2 story home with the main floor upstairs to maximize the great view. Three bedrooms have queen size beds. The 4th bedroom has 2 sets of bunks. In addition there are 2 queen size futons in the all-purpose room.
My husband and I purchased this property in 1975 and then spent 15 years gathering ideas before we consulted architect Robert Wood of Harbor Springs for the final plan. The goal was to maximize the view, keeping the interior neutral and allowing the windows to provide the artwork.
We felt the grand-kids should focus on outdoor and creative activities while at the Lello House and therefore made a conscious decision against having a television. Unfortunately retirement incomes do not allow for ever increasing property taxes which make it necessary for us to rent a few weeks every year. Otherwise we would be there ourselves!
Laurelynne Harris purchased this house in 1975
The view! The trillium, morels and wild flowers in the spring; the freshness of the breeze; the beach in the summer; the beautiful fall color; the surprising enchantment of winter. Cross Village has a wonderful neighborly small village culture. Did I mention the view?
The Lello House is well suited for multigenerational vacations. We have a crib, high chair, and 2 booster seats.
I wanted to tell you how wonderful our stay was and how much we enjoyed your
library of books, very peaceful and serene. Your cottage is charming and we
fell in love with it. I can understand why you would like to live there
Staying at the Lello house was nothing short of dreamy. I've been coming to this area for 35 years and this house is one of the most magical homes I've been fortunate to know. The house is flooded with natural light and the thoughtfully placed windows provide gorgeous views of the woods and lake, letting in steady breezes. I loved the way the kitchen is oriented toward water views and at the center of the living space. The upstairs living space was perfect for our little family, but I can imagine it would be a blast to include another family and utilize the bunk and rec. rooms on the lower level.
The owner's communication was terrific and it's clear she has gone out of her way to ensure guests have what they need. My only issue is figuring out how and when we come back! Thank you Lauralynne for sharing your home. We cherished our time spent there.
This home is well equipped, clean, and the owner is welcoming and available. We enjoyed the beautful beach and long walks on the shore.
The bedrooms are comfortable and clean, and kitchen was well equipped.
I would recommend this property if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing beach home that is within a 30 minutes or less drive to shopping, dining, tourist attractions.
My family and I have been vacationing on Lake Michigan for many years....and this stay was our favorite! The house was lovely and the views from every window were awesome...like staying in a treehouse with a beautiful view of the lake. The owner was extremely helpful and we would highly recommend this home. We would love to stay again next year!
Our extended family stayed at the Lelo house and had an awesome time. Laurelynne was a great host. Incredible views. Great beach and swimming. Kids spent a lot of time down there. Looking forward to next year!
My family and I enjoyed our stay at your lovely home so much! The house was clean and very warm and welcoming, and my son and I really appreciated your book selection. The views from the house and the deck were beautiful and we enjoyed having the beach all to ourselves every day. The overall ambiance of the place was so peaceful and relaxing that we changed our plan for a day trip to Mackinaw Island because we wanted more time at the house! We would love to come back sometime.
