About Dennis Decker
An enthusiastic New York and Harlem resident, always ready to give the inside scoop and recommendations on Harlem or NYC. Very involved in the neighborhood. Designer and partner of Harlem Shake, the popular local restaurant. A product, landscape and interior designer with numerous awards and items in national museums. In fact, the building has also been published in several magazines and appeared in films. A world traveller, as I flew for Pan Am for over 7 years.
Dennis Decker purchased this Apartment in 2000
Why Dennis Decker chose Harlem
This building is typical of the historic neighborhood. I was impressed that it still retained so much of its original form and material. However, I was very impressed by the atmosphere of the block, with friendly, open and involved neighbors.
What makes this Apartment unique
The quiet friendly tree-lined street, proximity to express subway- only 4 stops to Times Square, closeness to neighborhood coffee shop and historic park, as well as the 125 St. corridor and Central Park. I actually love sitting on the front stoop while having a coffee or a glass of wine. I love seeing the relaxed street life going by, and being a part of it. Since my block is dominated by private brownstones, rather than apartment buildings, it has a friendlier, small town feeling than most other neighborhoods.

Simply Lovely Stay in NYC
I recommend any of the spaces in the Harlem Hideaway. Dennis is the consummate host, courteous, warm, and accommodating. The hideaway is so nice.
What you see in the pictures is what you get and a whole lot more - comfy beds, rich linens, fresh inviting ambiance. The units are nicely appointed, homey, and functional - love all the little conveniences like wheels on furniture that needs to be moved. Clearly, Dennis is interested in the comfort and convenience of his guest. We enjoyed our stay immensely.
This is a spacious, comfortable, and very clean apartment. The decor is done with great care and makes for a very interesting space. The apartment is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. The bed was so comfortable! Dennis is a great host and it is clear he has put a lot of thought into the apartment. I love the location - great and interesting neighbourhood, close to subway and buses, some great dining and entertainment close by, and close to Central Park. This is always our first choice if we are going to NY.
It's a great apartment. We had already been there two years ago and returned.
The apartment is very nice, and the host is excellent and helpful. He is really a great help for anything you need.
We found the neighbourhood not as clean and nice as in 2017, but Dennis is always nice.
We highly recommend this place, it's cozy and really feels like home.
Excellent unit and excellent location!
Dennis is an exceptional host! I have stayed at numerous rentals and Dennis’s Garden unit is by far in the top 3 places I have stayed.
Fun place in an awesome neighborhood
The garden apartment was an amazing spot for a week long getaway. It’s close to subway lines to head downtown but not too close. It was awesome to have a home away from home to go to. The bed is super comfortable and it’s nice to have a washer and dryer at hand. Would highly recommend staying here and I can’t wait to come back.
A clean and tidy place perfect for a great weekend!
Everything was great! From Dennis' hospitality, to all of his attentions, and details in the apartment. It really felt like a home away from home. Will definitely return!!
