About Greg Nagler

My family has been a HomeAway member since 2011. We own this home in Newport Beach, and we also own a home in Santa Barbara where we work and raise our 3-year old baby, Lucas and our 2 year- old Marcus.

Greg Nagler purchased this house in 2011

Why Greg Nagler chose Newport Beach

I grew up in California, my wife grew up in Japan, and we both love Southern California, and all the great things to do here! My family has owned this home for over 15 years, and it has been passed from one generation (my parents) to us. Balboa Island is a very special place and we are sure you will enjoy it!

What makes this house unique

With the large, retractable skylight in the Master Bedroom, comfortable dining area, a living room and patio that faces the water, and a few minutes walk to the harbor and Oceanfront, we knew this was the property on the Island that we wanted to own. Lots of morning sunshine in the bedrooms as well!

House was great. Construction was not!

  • 4 of 5

The home is beautiful with a great location. Was told that street parking was plentiful but it wasn't. The garage does fit 2 cars as long as they are small. The one thing that was disappointing was bridge construction right next to the house. It was fine over the weekend but come Monday morning we awoke to a very loud generator that ran all day. No fault of the owner but kind of put a damper on our otherwise relaxing day. Would recommend the place but make sure street construction is complete before you go.

Owner's Response: We deeply apologize that the new bridge was so far behind schedule this Summer. Contractor had promised April, then May, and it was severely over-scheduled. We are sorry for the overall impact of your Holiday and appreciate your Comments overall on the Home. Take care.

Noise Noise Noise

  • 3 of 5

House is great but the island is directly in the flight path of jets departing John Wayne Airport and they start at 7 am. Furthermore, the continued construction on the bridge to Lil Balboa includes cutting steel and concrete beginning as early as 6:30 am. Other than the weekend, we could not enjoy the patio or house until after 3:30 pm. The portable A/C units cooled the rooms and the sound helped drown out the noise. The kitchen and baths are great and we used the grill, and kayaks. Bicycles need maintenance and Wifi was spotty at best. We were on the go, but my disabled 84 year old mother was stuck with the office bedroom and needed assistance to get off the very low and uncomfortable sofas in the living room. Not a good choice for R & R but if you are a family on the go, it is a great base. We hiked at Crystal Cove, shopped at Fashion Island and on the Island, walked the island, biked the peninsula, rented a Duffy used the kayaks daily. Wilma's Patio was very good and Bluewater Grille in the Cannery area was a good seafood choice.

This canal home on Balboa Island provided all our families needs & wants for a 3 generation vacation

  • 4 of 5

This canal home on Balboa Island was comfortable, updated, & provided all the amenities a family could want! From kayaks & bikes, to a close proximity to shops and restaurants. The views from the decks were tranquil, while the canals felt like you were in Venice Italy. The new & modern amenities from the appliances in the kitchen, a large flatscreen in the living room, to the sunroof & bidet in the master retreat- gave us some creature comforts we hadn't expected. The only complaint we had is that we wished we had stayed longer 😃 We hope to be back soon!

A week of water polo!

  • 5 of 5

Found this great place to stay for a week while enjoying watching our two grandsons taking part in the Junior Olympic National Water Polo Tournament.

The accommodations were very comfortable. Greg, the owner, was very friendly and helpful explaining some ofhe little nuances when we arrived. We found everything we needed in the well stocked kitchen. Plenty of towels and linens.

We would love to return to this paradise. Thanks for everything, Greg and Jim.

Great Property and Great Location

  • 5 of 5

My siblings and my 96-year-old mother thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. Quiet and peaceful, right on the canal, and just a block away from the main street. Parking is a little difficult in the garage unless you have a small car, but there was ample parking on the streets close by. Owners were very hospitable.

Would definitely stay here again.

Fun in Balboa

  • 4 of 5

Our best friends (who Iive in Chicago) came for a visit to show their kids beautiful sunny California. We rented this home so we could enjoy a few days at the beach during their stay in CA. The house was very nice, great location in Balboa on the canal, and working with Greg was very easy. He is always quick to respond and very helpful in every way. The one bummer was the bridge construction going on one house away from the rental. Thankfully we only experienced one morning of noise, but the view with all the construction off the patio was not as pretty as I know it normally would be without it. The house was well appointed with everything you could need in the kitchen and linens. I have a couple of recommendations though. One would be to make the upstairs bedroom/bathroom, that currently holds 2 twin beds, a second master bedroom by putting in a Queen sized bed so it can be occupied and used by adults who want a ensuite bathroom and put the twin beds downstairs. My husband and I wanted our own private bathroom but had to sleep apart in the twin beds, we gave our friends the master bedroom, and our kids had to sleep together in the Queen downstairs. Also, the Queen bed in the downstairs bedroom is really a pull out couch, which is not as comfortable as a bed. There is also a lot of furniture in that room that made using the portable air conditioning unit tough to manuever around. I would also suggest putting in central air, it was a warm couple of days, the portable units were great at keeping rooms cool, but they were very loud and the one in the master bedroom kept shorting out at night. The little town is adorable and we enjoyed walking around at night. We didn't realize that the Fun Zone (a ferry ride across the bay) closed at 6pm every night, so our teenagers didn't get to go hang out over there in the evenings like we had planned. Overall though, I would recommend staying at this house. We had 9 people, the boys slept on the couches and on a blow up mattress in the family room and it was fine for the couple nights we were there. Staying longer than a couple of days with that many people would have not been enjoyable for more than the short time we were there. I would go back with less people and once the bridge is done being built.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your stay and THANK YOU very much for the improvement suggestions. We enjoyed meeting you and your friends from the Windy City! We will take actions based on your feedback. We are definitely going to make improvements to the cooling system this year and thankfully the new bridge has (finally!) been completed on July 25th. Thanks so much for sharing the feedback and also the improvement suggestions! Really glad to hear that your Family had a good time and we would be delighted to to hosting a future visit anytime! Take care and thank you :)
