I loved it! Place I could live, very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

Being across from the lake and a view from most Windows, is Relaxing. I also liked the old time feel, with nice antique pieces and artwork. The wood burning stove for fall chill in the air nights would be awesome!

Thanks again for sharing your home!! We will return.

Horrible!

  • 1 of 5

I would NOT recommend staying here. First of all, I would not catergorize this property as a farmhouse. This is a small cottage. When my husband and I arrived the property smelled musty and moldy. The air was stale. To make matters worse we opened the fridge because we had brought some drinks to cool. We were shocked to find half used bottles of condiments and food. The freezer had partially used food in it and so did the cabinets. There were someone's boots on the steps and a pair of sun glasses on the ledge. There were clothes hanging in the bathroom closet. It appeared as if someone lived here permanently. We decided we could not stay in this cottage. My husband had trouble breathing. We contacted the owner and requested a refund or at least a partial refund. The owner offered to have us come back in May for two nights and try it again. We don't want to come back. We want a refund. The owner said she lives there and was trying to make ends meet. She refuses to give us any money back. She claims this was a busy weekend with the art fest in town. She said she could have rented her place to someone else. I suggested a partial refund since the owner could have rented it out Saturday night. The owner said it would take to long to clean, since she had moved back in after we left on Friday night. We contacted homeaway and filed a complaint. We hope that they can help us get some money back. We have never had a worse weekend getaway. Out the cost of two nights plus the service fee and ended up driving home. We couldn't afford to spend more money on a hotel for two nights, not knowing if we would get reimbursed at all for this place. So much for a relaxing weekend away with my husband. I have had great experiences with homeaway in the past. Not this time.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the opportunity to respond to this review. I was dismayed. Every effort is made to provide a clean and enjoyable environment. Again, I extend apologies for any issues, concerns or inconvenience the guests may have had. I returned to the farmhouse minutes after the guests left and have occupied the premises ever since. During a phone conversation the next day, concern was expressed for the husband's asthmatic condition and the need to go home. An offer was made to return, at no cost. The offer was declined. Thanks to the many guests who have stayed over the years and had a great experience!

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely 1940's farmhouse cottage. It was rustic, cozy, & peaceful. Being located near many west Michigan treasures, it was the ideal getaway for a couple who enjoys the outdoors. My husband & I are thankful to have stayed here.
