Officially my happy place

  • 5 of 5

This is my 2nd time staying at this priceless little rock house nestled in the woods surrounded by the dreamiest setting you just can't find anymore. We have visited the area since our first stay here a couple years ago and had to stay at a bigger rental because we were two families visiting, and it was nice, but it just wasn't the same. So when we decided to let our daughter go to summer camp at Crestridge this summer, I knew that the only thing that would cheer our younger son up (missing his big sister) would be to get to stay at this rock cottage nestled in the sweetest farm ever!! There is a creek RIGHT behind the cottage that we got to teach our son the art of catching crawdads in, he felt like Mowgli from Jungle Book climbing the rocks in it:) We're officially attached & in love with the donkeys and goats particularly the most unusually sweet sire goat Sampson!❤️ And "Hoot" the barn cat became my sons shadow as he would follow us to the creek each day:) Barbara could not have been more helpful and gracious to us full of tips and just getting to talk to someone who runs a real working farm was a priceless life lesson for my kids!! And before we took our daughter to camp, she and her little friend stayed a couple nights with us (because as excited as she was to go to camp with her friend, she was so sad to miss out on the Trombatore farm!!) and I so appreciate their efficient use of space..master bedroom sleeps beautifully (where I highly recommend cracking the window to hear the creek!) and in the 2nd bedroom, they had a twin bed and an adorable bunk bed nestled against a rock wall (so my kids actually fight over the bottom bunk because they feel like they're in a fox den:) Even my City boy, Wall Street husband says this is the only place he goes where he feels truly relaxed and rested!! Which really warms my heart, because to me, it's other worldly. I will look back one day, and no doubt, these will be my most treasured memories with my kids. A true cabin/cottage/farm experience with the most magnificent view of Face Rock and the most radiant scenery complete with majestic barns, friendly horses, goat tails wagging, donkeys, babbling creek all right outside your front door!! We also love how private and wooded it is with a mountain to roam, yet the owners are so appropriately available. We love going to the Amish Market Troyers for sandwiches and bringing goodies back to our little slice of heaven..don't forget your firefly jars❤️

Not as advertised

  • 2 of 5

I'm a little surprised about all the glowing reviews on this property. We were supposed to stay 4 nights and left after just 2. It was not clean and there were rodent droppings in the bathroom. My husband is highly allergic to mold and could barely breathe while we were there, leading me to believe there had been or is mold there. The wi-fi did not work, which was important to us as my husband needed it for his job. I felt sorry for the horses, goats and mules as their enclosures were disgusting, loaded with feces, making it to where you couldn't sit outside because that's all you could smell. The main reason I got this place was so my son could hike and he couldn't even do that as they were logging around the trails. We are not a picky, particular family and we've never felt the need to cut our vacation in half until this one. I understand this is supposed to be "rustic", but rustic doesn't have to be dirty and smelly. The only reason I give it 2 stars is the location. It's convenient to Chimney Rock and Asheville, so if you're just looking for a place to sleep and don't mind the dirt and musty smell, this place will do. I messaged my concerns to the owner and never got a reply, so I felt like I needed to write this review as a warning to anyone considering this property.

Nothing short of magical...

  • 5 of 5

I honestly hesitate to write a review, because I want this to be my own little secret:) I actually grew up spending all my summers on my grandparents farm further up Brushcreek & we lived with them in my middle school years when Papaw became ill. I have a long family history in Fairview so full disclosure, I am partial..for very good reason. You just don't get childhoods like that anymore..picking buckets of blackberries that Meemaw turned into cobblers & jams, roaming hillsides only comparable to The Sound of Music and fetching dinner from the lake. I've always dreamed of the day I'd get to bring my kids back to see the slice of heaven called my childhood..but didn't know how, being that my grandparents have passed away and their beautiful property long sold. When I went on VRBO, it was nothing short of a hair raising God thing that I came across this sweet stone cottage (my grandparents farm house that he built with his own hands was stone as well) ON Brushcreek..I thought it was too good to be true! Even my mom who was born and raised there, didn't know about this precious stone cottage up the sweetest dirt road at the end of the circle. I was a little disappointed that we didn't make it there before dark being that my husband isn't quite acquainted with country living:)..but as we entered the gate into this precious property, the night scene had a heavenly glow all it's own. My city boy husband instantly understood all my sentiment. The fireflies lit up the night & the goats and horses welcomed us with their sweet songs..and there was something magical about mysteriously hearing the creek babble before getting to see it in the morning. The next morning I couldn't hold the kids back from bursting outside in their pajamas, so I followed suit in mine with coffee in hand:) We were soon greeted by these special owners..Barbara was up in the barn tending to a new horse & so graciously allowed us to watch and pet. In our time there, I was able to easily explore all the surrounding land that me & my siblings, my mom, grandparents and great grandparents roamed as children..with my own kids, husband & mom..but looked forward to returning to this precious real working farm each day! I am forever grateful for our divine meeting with this special couple & that they so generously share their hearts and home with others..allowing me my up most precious memories with my kids to date. Thank you Barbara and Tom, from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

Quaint Mountain Cabin with Beautiful Scenery and Farm Animals, plus Pet Friendly!

  • 5 of 5

When looking for vacation rentals for a weekend getaway it is always very important that the location be pet friendly so we can travel with our furry companions. I loved the location of this cabin and the town of Fairview was beautiful as well. I am an animal lover so not only was it great being able to take the dogs but the cabin sits on 400 acres of farm land and there are wild turkeys, goats, chickens, and horses on the property. To me this was one of the coolest things about the stay. You can hear the creek behind the cabin running when you have the windows open and it is a very relaxing experience. The dogs loved the creek and loved drinking out of it was well, they were in heaven. Overall the cabin is in a great location, its very quaint and I would definitely stay here again. The dogs had a blast and we also had a nice relaxing get away. We were in town for a wedding and thought it would be nice to stay up in the mountains. This was THE perfect location, I couldn't have picked a better rental in the Asheville area. Did I mention there is a hot tub on the back deck? Amazing!

Very beautiful place with lots of room to roam

  • 5 of 5

My daughter and I were very impressed with this property. The house is very quaint with everything you need to enjoy your stay at a great nightly rate. My daughter really enjoyed the animals. There were 3 horses, approx. 6 goats, approx. 20 chickens, and a very protective rooster. :)

The owner, Barbara, is very pleasant to talk with and gave us the history of the property. There are lots of trails to hike on the property and the view from the top of her property at sunset is beautiful.

This property is in a great location. You are approx. 25 min. from the entrance to the Biltmore house. But once on the property you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere.

We really had a great time and I will definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away from it all.

Absolutely lovely!

  • 5 of 5

My best friend and I chose this cottage as our getaway to celebrate New Year's Eve with her husband and my fiancé. WE LOVED IT. The cottage itself was cozy but with enough space for a group of 4 to maintain a measure of privacy. The cottage also feels warm and welcoming with its dark wooden panelling and cute, rustic decor. The kitchen was well-equipped to cook a range of simple meals, and we loved having a few beers on the patio or in the hot tub. The farm is great for wandering! The animals (goats, chickens, and horses) were a constant entertainment, and a trailhead connecting to Bearwallow Mountain is easily accessible. Downtown Asheville is a 30-minute drive away, a grocery store about 10 minutes away, and the owners have left plenty of suggestions for things to do in the area. We plan on making a return trip sometime soon!

The Cabin on Brush Creek is located in a SNHA - Significant Natural Heritage Area....the only one of its designation in Western North Carolina. The 400 acres are criss crossed with hiking trails. This is truly a naturalists/hikers paradise! But still close in to urban attractions such as restaurants, pubs, theatres, and music venues. Only a short 20 minutes from the front gate entrance to Biltmore House.
