Charming Mediterranean garden court apartments in prime close-in SE Portland location. Your own 1920's flat in the city. This is one of the nicest garden courts in SE Portland and is not your average rental.
The is a full sized 1 bedroom that has been restored, remodeled, and updated with very high quality furniture and furnishings. It's all on one level so there is no noise from above and it has its own front and back door. The flat has the original hardwood floors, doors and millwork along with very nice light from new windows.
The courtyard out back and the garden setting up the front, along with the prime end location, gives it a feeling of a small cottage in the city and not at all like a condo, hotel, or inner building apartment.
The living room has a classic feel with chase lounge and soft leather chair facing a solid mocha bamboo bookshelf that houses a new LED TV, speakers, wi-fi, and a nice selection of books and art. There is nice light from windows that look out over a garden to the west and downtown.
The kitchen has been upgraded with paper-stone countertops, tin backsplash, new appliances, a composite sink, and a new Grohe faucet. Inside the cupboards and drawers you’ll find new Noritake dinnerware, OXO utensils, quality knives, sturdy water & wine glasses, Tupperware, cookie sheet, cutting board, French press, salad spinner and colander. For cooking there is a quality All-Clad pan set, spice rack, olive oil, balsamic vinegar, sugar, etc.
From the back of the kitchen there's a convenient backdoor that leads onto a private enclosed porch with access out a screen door and down a few steps to the inner garden courtyard and across to the separate laundry room.
The bathroom is more original and cute and also works having been updated with a pedestal sink, new toilet, nice fixtures, and a tub.
The bedroom is cozy and quiet with the new windows onto the courtyard, pergola, & water feature. The one bed is a queen size. The mattress is locally made and is medium firm with a low level of pillow top. The fame is cherry made in southern Oregon. Sheets are 400+ thread count cotton.
Parking is on street but is usually no problem with spots often within 25-100'' of the front door.
Rates vary based on how many nights are being booked, the time of year, and supply vs. demand. Of course the more nights booked the better the rate is. The Homeway calculator does not take the variables above into consideration and so is just an estimate.
Minimum stay required can vary due to how the calendar is filled at the time. We do our best to accommodate short stays but it's just not always possible. Booking just a few nights is possible when it works out with the calendar.
This particular flat is not available long-term however I have another where it may be possible depending on the season.
The unit pictured above does not allow pets though I do have another where a pet may be possible. That spot does have a 6 night minimum, as well as a required pet deposit.

We love the vibrant feel of the Eastside districts. They each have their own distinct personality and they make Portland the amazing city that it is today.
We are just home from spending a wonderful week at this location. I cannot say enough about how fantastic this whole experience was. Booking and communicating with Jim was quick and easy. Clare was also a wonderful on-site resource offering guidance and suggestions. We ABSOLUTELY LOVED utilizing the bikes that were available - such a perfect way to get around and see (the seriously bike friendly) city. The shared garden courtyard in the back was also a big highlight for us. We had a couple of scorcher days, so the A/C unit in the bedroom was highly welcomed. As other have said, the central location of the home makes it incredibly easy to get around with so much within walking/bike riding distance. A few of our favorites were....lattes at Grande Central Bakery (3mins walk), food trucks at 2880 SE Division St AND 1207 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Bollywood Theater (indian food) at 3010 SE Division St, Salt & Straw (salted caramel ice cream....sooooo delicious!!) at 3345 SE Division St and Accanto (italian) at 2838 SE Belmont St. Highly recommended and would most definitely be our first choice of accommodation next time we are in Portland.
My only hesitancy in writing a review is that this charming place will become too popular and I will not be able to stay here when I return to Portland! Perfect in every way - the reservation process, the location, the accommodations, the onsite caretaker, Clare, who was exactly the right amount of helpful. Thank you, thank you , thank you. We will be back!
The apartment was very clean and accommodating. Clare was very helpful and insightful to the surrounding area. Great location, a lot within just a mile radius and the best part bike were available. 10 stars out of 5
My partner chose this location for our 7 day gluten free eating tour of Portland. I didn't know what to expect but I was more than happy from the second we stepped into this end-unit charming town house (doesn't feel like an apartment to me). It was so clean and "sterile" in a good way. I didn't feel like I was bed-surfing at a family's home or a strangers pad. We definitely felt like we could make this our own place for the week. It's tastefully decorated and just the right amount. Although we came to dine out it was nice to have the kitchen to whip up a quick breakfast or prepare sashimi from the Flying FIsh Market literally across the street. The stationary Kruger farmer's market type store is also conveniently located just a couple hundred feet away on Hawthorne. This locating is central and perfect for walking around to get to places or use one of their 2 bikes on hand (at no extra charge). We rented a Subaru WRX for the week on "relayrides" which was pretty sweet and it was just a short car ride to downtown. We uber-ed easily from the property at nighttime. If you have laundry then great, there is a washer and dryer onsite.. If you like to take a bath (guess it's the Japanese in me) then sweet bring your bath salts! A set of towels for 2 are provided and salt/pepper/sugar along with dish soap, laundry detergent and a full line of basic kitchen tools are provided Bring your own peeler if you feel like peeling veggies. We had friends meet us at the house before going out for dinner and they are going to recommend this unit to family visiting from CA. We will definitely try and stay here next time we come and visit since we only got to try half of the 100% gluten free restaurant in town. Thanks for offering such a great space and an extra thanks for Clare who made us feel welcome and lives a few doors down just in case we needed something. She's great at responding to texts too which is reassuring. Thanks y'all!
As a regular summer visitor to Portland, I decided that this year I would try a rental property. I could not have been more pleased. From my very first contact with owner Jim, his communication was prompt, detailed, positive, and always professional. I was looking for a longer term (2-3 week) rental apartment and he was able to arrange this quickly for me. He provided tons of helpful information and photos not only about the apartment, but also the neighborhood's stores, restaurants, and other amenities. Resident caretaker Clare met me on arrival and kindly showed me through the apartment. The space was perfect and the rooms were exactly as photographed. I found the immediate neighborhood very quiet.
As I was there during some very hot weather, Jim had had a bedroom window AC unit installed, which was a much appreciated addition for the nights I needed it. The bed was very comfortable and there was lots of closet, storage and dresser space for my clothes and luggage. Kitchen and bathroom were great and kitchen cupboards were well-stocked with utensils. I used the large microwave and coffeemaker frequently, along with the very spacious refrigerator. The desk with wi-fi connection in the front living room worked out fine. Not being a TV watcher, I did not use the television.
Probably one of the most appreciated attributes about this property is its proximity to public transit (Hawthorne and Belmont frequent service bus lines) and local grocery stores, bakeries, shops, and restaurants, all within easy walking distance (loved Grand Central Bakery's sandwiches and pastries the best!). Downtown Portland is a 10-15 minute bus ride away and the Buckman/Sunnyside neighborhoods are just great for walking. Although I did not make use of the secluded courtyard in the back of the property since I was out much of the time, it looked very inviting and well-maintained.
I cannot recommend this vacation rental spot and its owner enough...it was an all-around terrific and welcome spot to headquarter my Portland vacation this year. I would easily return again in the future and am confident that others will enjoy this property too.
We enjoyed our week-long stay in mid-December! Everything was super-clean and in excellent condition! Clare was so helpful and we took advantage of the nearby restaurants for breakfast nearly every day...JAM was our favorite! The kitchen is extremely well-supplied with things like seasonings and coffee filters. The weather was cold and rainy while we were there so did not get to use the courtyard although I could see it would be very nice!
