This one bedroom with closet, one bath cabin has a pull out sofa in the living room and views of the river from the living room and deck.
If you need to connect with the world just plug in your laptop and get on line or fire up the WiFi.
This two acre property is fully fenced in and your dogs will love roaming the trails throughout the property.
The cabin is located on a completely native wooded acreage right on the withlacoochee river! Florida's most scenic river... Updated one bedroom one bath. Tasteful but casual mission style furnishings. Completely furnished for all your needs, linens, gourmet cooking utensils, microwave, stove, refrigerator and all the dishware and glasses you would need. The entire property is completely fenced and there is even a separate fenced in paddock close to the cabin so bring your horses to enjoy the horse friendly trails that start right down the road...
River frontage and great views from the cabin and the two decks. One is right on the river's edge overlooking the river. Sit out by the fire pit for a warm fire and roasting marshmallows on the cooler evenings.
Rob and Mike purchased this property as a get away... They wanted to be close to the Withlacoochee River, Forest and Rails to Trails bike path..... While initially only visiting the property once a month they quickly grew to love the area and all that it has to offer. A few years ago they decided to look for a permanent home in the area that would be able to accommodate their love of animals and give them space to have more... Well they found the perfect place... Not far from the River House, in Sumter County a 60 acre ranch where they raise their goats, horses, chickens, donkeys and cattle on their own piece of heaven. Not wanting to completely part with the River House , they decided to rent it out as a vacation spot to travelers, so others could experience it.
Rob and Mike purchased this cabin in 2006
Picking out this River House was easy.... The first time they saw this property they wrote an offer to purchase.... It was just that simple. Where else can you find a house on stilts that makes you feel like you are in a tree house on the river!
The property has this amazing trail that winds around the woods... with gopher tortoises checking you out as you pass them, and almost the entire property is shaded by oak trees... It has a great mystical feel!
This is definetly the place to go if you want to relax and get away from the daily routine. My husband and and I wanted to do just that and that is exactly what we got. Everything you could possibly need is in this cabin and it was perfect. The decor inside was so charming and we just felt at home! The outside river view was amazing and the grounds were well taken care of. We will definetly be back and tell family and friends about it!:)
We rented this to get away from Hurricane Mathew . My wife and I with are Collie were able to relax and enjoy the river view on the large decks. This is truly a great little place for a couple of adults with a dog. Wouldn't want to bring small children here as the deck is high off the ground without gates or proper railings to prevent small children from falling. The owners seem to be awesome People they were helpful and nice. Thanks Mike And Rob
This property was in a perfect location, close enough to modern conveniences but still very quiet and private. The house was cozy and quaint with a full kitchen, including everything you would need. Lots of outdoor seating with a large fireplace area and wood was provided, which was a treat. Kayaks were also provided, and the trip upstream was beautiful. The trip back was even more peaceful, winding through the waters of the unspoiled Florida wilderness. The best part is that we got to bring the pups, and they had an amazing time roaming free on the large fenced property! Great getaway, cannot wait to get back.
We loved the rental, it had everything you could want, from kayaks to what seemed to be a brand new gas grill.
Siting on the deck overlooking the river or fishing from the dock made for peaceful and relaxing stay. The fire-pit was lovely and we spent a nice evening grilling and sitting around the pit.
The cottage was well appointed, and there was nothing we needed which was not easily accessible.
Beds were comfy and the general appearance and atmosphere were great.
We will definitely re-book, and thoroughly recommend this destination.
The stairs to the property made for a great workout!
Well decorated home. Comfortable furniture. The bed was amazing. The view was spectacular and the home is secluded. Very little bugs didn't need any off spray. I wish I could of given a 5 star but the outside needs maintanence. Needs a large plastic garbage can outside to put rubbish. The grass was long and the outdoor table and chairs were dirty but didn't stop us from having a most excellent time. The view from the upper deck was awsome felt like you were way up in the trees. Best of all just a short driving distance from tampa.
We really like staying at this property, this was our second visit and we are looking forward to planning the third. Very peaceful and secluded. Great for the doggies, Iggy and Rosie enjoyed themselves. Unfortunately the river did not cooperate this time as it was very high and had a very strong current which was the after effects of the tropical storm only a week or so before. So no canoeing or kayaking, we fished without much success either but again that was just the water condition.
We made good use out of the fire pit and used the grill quite a bit.
We had a very nice time, was able to get a bit of much needed relaxation and will definitely be back again
Located just an hour from Tampa and and hour from ocala. Is a rolling agricultural and pristine Florida forest... The withlacoochee river and the withlacoochee state forest as well as the longest continuous road bike path in the state. Withlacoochee state trail the trail is just a short 5 minute ride from our cabin door!!!!
At 46 miles in length, the withlacoochee state trail is presently the longest paved rail trail in Florida. The trail corridor runs through small towns, ranches, and natural areas as it makes its way south from citrus springs to trilby. The trail traverses a region that offers many other outstanding recreational opportunities. Among the recreational highlights nearby are the unpaved trails in the croom area of the withlacoochee state forest, the withlacoochee river (south) canoe trail, and fort cooper state park. The withlacoochee trail will eventually join many other trails in the region, becoming part of the central florida loop.
For the trail bike users there is the croom trail: forest - croom off-road bike trail. This network of single-track forms two loops of 12 and 35 miles.
Actual trail length, including connectors, is over 55 miles. Trails consist of florida uplands, sweeping cross country trails (wooded and open) to abandoned mines and challenging pits and drop-offs. Check kiosks sites for trail maps.
Hiking trails start right from the cabin door... With the withlacoochee state forest trail head just 3 miles from the cabin. For a dip into the primordial wilderness that envelopes the withlacoochee river on its northward flow to the gulf of Mexico, take a short jaunt to nobleton (Hernando county) for a nature trail that showcases some of the biggest cypresses around. The trail is entirely in the shade of the floodplain forest – and loops around several sinkholes, including one with this massive cypress in it. It intersects with the orange-blazed Florida trail in an upland pine forest, a separate 7-plus mile adventure.
A lesser-known part of withlacoochee state forest, the oxbow trail is on the northernmost tract of the forest along the withlacoochee river, the trails and campsites all eagle scout projects. While the easy-to-follow big loop trail is a popular circuit for families and folks taking their dogs on a walk, the tougher-to-follow but more visually satisfying addendum, the oxbow nature trail, makes its way out to the very tip of the peninsula, providing excellent scenic views of the river from a variety of perspectives. Riverside camping is open to individuals and groups who obtain a free permit from the division of forestry.
Kayaking or canoeing the withlacoochee river right from the cabin in our two kayaks made available to renters. Within an hour of orlando and tampa, the withlacoochee river meanders through an unspoiled cypress forest in rural Florida. It ranks as one of Florida's most scenic rivers, and yet, it’s uncrowded and unspoiled. (on a sunny winter weekend when i visited, an 8-mile paddle involved seeing only one canoe. The count for alligators? Four.)
The river, Florida's fourth largest, winds through the withlacoochee state forest, a wild, natural region with many options for picnics and photography .
For the gay or lesbian traveler the sawmill camp ground is just 5 miles from the cabin. Sawmill is the premier gay and lesbian community in the southeast.
