All three generations of my family enjoyed staying in this well furnished unit. It is on the end, i.e. relatively quiet and not near the elevator, which is in the middle of the building. The spacious, fully provided kitchen was a big plus, and we composed several fish dinners cooked on the outdoor gas grills on the Sandalfoot grounds, plus a successful homemade key lime pie. The bedrooms are comfy, with ample bureaus & closets. Ceiling fans in each bedroom and the living area helped provide total comfort. The movies on CDs, books, and board games plus all 3 large TVs got a lot of use in evenings. The third-floor, corner balcony catches the breezes nicely. The heated pool was a huge hit with everyone, as was the shuffleboard court. The beach is accessed via boardwalk through natural vegetation (watch for endangered gopher turtles), and is fine for shelling, wildlife watching, sunning ... We especially enjoyed watching dolphins playing just off the beach, and a hard-working pair of ospreys bringing their catch of the hour back to the nest. The immaculate grounds are planted with a wide variety of tropical plants, and Domingo the handyman will tell you their names & which ones smell especially good at night. The friendly staff responded immediately to our (minor) needs. We appreciated the several 'extras' provided by the management, such as juice and breakfast pastries by the pool one morning, and a fish fry. The east end of Sanibel is relatively quiet and residential, with restaurants, grocery stores & shops mainly in the middle of the island; so a car is absolutely necessary. The bike paths are excellent. My family are hinting hard for a return ...
Sanibel Island is the Seashell Capital of the World and a Nature Lover's Paradise. It is a barrier island near Fort Myers off the Southwest Florida Coast. It is about 4 mies wide and 12 miles long. Average temperature is about 75 degrees. There is a brand new 14 million dollar Fitness and Recreation Center available for a nominal fee for Island guests. Protected Wildlife Preserves, including Ding Darling Sanctuary, constitute 60% of the Island. Seventeen miles of beautiful sandy beaches and 26 miles of bike trails grace the Island
