Overview

About the property

5 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, 1 half bathroom, sleeps 12

The Moss Rock Lodge is a four-season vacation home on the North Shore of Fourth Lake conveniently located between Old Forge and Inlet. The fully equipped kitchen has new stainless steel appliances. A large dining room overlooks Fourth Lake. Bathrooms have just been completely renovated. The great room offers comfortable furnishings, a fireplace, and spectacular lake view. The large porch also overlooks the lake. Summer and autumn activities include swimming, hiking, boating, biking, golfing, white water rafting, canoeing, and kayaking.

Summer in the Adirondacks: People from warmer climates love to spend their summer vacations in the Adirondacks. The average daytime temperature is around 80 degrees. The Old Forge area offers something for everyone...young & old! For the kids (or young at heart) there's the Water Safari - the biggest water park in the Northeast. There's nothing better than a day at the Safari...water rides, go-carts, games, and the Enchanted Forest which has a daily live Elephant show & non-water rides as well.

For those more sophisticated...the newly built Adirondack Museum always has something going on...exhibits, entertainment, and all sorts of gatherings. It is opening soon and is just a few miles from our camp.

Downtown Old Forge and Inlet offer fine dining, entertainment & great little shops filled with Adirondack gifts, local food & apparel.

Whether you're into hiking, mountain biking, waterskiing, or just R&R on the porch...this is the place for you!

Fall in the Adirondacks: Spectacular fall foliage brings thousands of people to the Old Forge area during the fall....If you come up, one thing you really should do is go for a ride on a seaplane. There are two local seaplane business within minutes of our camp & if you want, they'll even pick you up at the dock! It's thrilling & amazingly beautiful to see the mountains & lakes from the plane.

We love to go boating on the Fulton Chain of Lakes in the fall....you can travel from Old Forge Pond (1st Lake) through channels to 2nd, 3rd and finally the biggest, 4th Lake...all by boat. Park downtown at the public dock & shop in Old Forge, or pull up to a boat slip at one of many lakefront restaurants. Explore some of the islands, check out the wildlife....loons, take some great photo's, or just relax & cruise the adirondack lakes & enjoy the scenery.

Winter Wonderland: Old Forge is one of the coldest places in the Northeast....they are also known as the 'snowmobiling capitol of the Northeast' because of the large amounts of snow & the enormous trail system which is beautifully groomed all winter long. In the Old Forge/Inlet area there are typically more snowmobiles than cars at the local restaurants & bars. It's fun for the whole family...beautiful trails in the wilderness which go for miles & miles. Our camp driveway is literally across the street from the main trail access.

Ice fishing is a big outdoor winter activity. There are several tournaments in the area during the winter months. There are always a few fishermen we can see from our camp...they're friendly and patient folks!

If you like to ski or snowboard, McCauley Mountain is just a few miles away. Gore Mountain is a much larger ski area and is an hour drive north. Just 2 hours away, White Face Mountain is in the village of Lake Placid (Winter Olympics Host in 1980).

About Carol Ringdahl

My husband, Eric & I are from Rome, New York. We visited the Old Forge area several times before purchasing this property. This is a special place and our family and friends have enjoyed many special occasions and holidays at various times of the year. All great memories!

Carol Ringdahl purchased this lodge in 1995

Why Carol Ringdahl chose Old Forge

We love the Adirondacks and the change of seasons. It's beautiful up here in the Winter, Spring, Fall & Summer. The close proximity to our home in Rome was also a plus. We can be there in less than an hour. It's also a short drive to historic Lake Placid, the Adirondack Museum at Blue Mountain Lake, the Great Sagamore Resort in Lake George to name just a few! Take a dinner or sunset cruise aboard the famous W.W. Durant just up the road on Raquette Lake and learn about the summer life for millionaires like the Vanderbilt and Carnegies during the "Gilded Age"!

What makes this lodge unique

We are located directly across the road from Rondaxe Road, where access trails to climb Bald Mountain are. We are also centrally located between Old Forge and Inlet...lots of restaurants just minutes away either via boat or car. Our camp is over 100 years old, so on the outside looks like a great camp; however we enjoy all the modern comforts of newly renovated kitchen, bathrooms, etc., on the inside.

Camping in "high style"

  • 5 of 5

My family & I can't say enough great things about the Moss Rock Lodge... The location is convenient & the view of 4th Lake is spectacular! The camp is very spacious, warm and has every amenity you would need or want. We spent most evenings sitting around the camp fire, watching the stars. The diningroom lends itself to many great family dinners and conversation....quality time! We stayed here in July and the weather was great...warm during the day and comfortable sleeping temperatures at night...no need for air conditioning!

I would highly recommend this place to anyone wanting a wonderful family experience. Boating is also fun, as you can travel to restaurants by water which is a plus!
