Gulfview Retreat is a totally renovated, raised cottage in Galveston's historic East End, one block from Seawall Blvd. It is perfect for Houstonians looking to get away for a long weekend, for visitors wanting a one-week summer vacation, and for our snowbirder friends who often come to the Island for a month or longer. We have welcomed visitors from across Texas and the US, from Canada, Mexico, and Europe.
The home is designed to be casual, with all the conveniences our guests expect from a vacation rental. It is decorated in a colorful, retro, mid-century modern style, with totally refinished hardwood floors, modern appliances, and original artwork by Houston area artists.
We have been pleased that our guests enjoy their ''home away from home'' and we strive to make your stay with us relaxing and enjoyable. Since I live full-time in the neighborhood, I am available should any questions or concerns arise.
We're glad to recommend our favorite restaurants, beaches, and excursions. We pride ourselves on having the house clean and ready at the time of your check-in.
We ask that you treat our home the way you treat your own home (eg we ask that you load the dishwasher and empty the trash at check-out). Since we love dogs, we don't charge extra for your bringing one small-medium dog. Our rates include local and state hotel taxes, but we do charge a cleaning fee of $65.
We appreciate your considering Gulfview Retreat for your vacation and invite you to call us directly if you have questions or need additional information. We look forward to having you and your family as our guests at Gulfview Retreat!
I was raised in Houston, but our family would make many trips to the Island. I have renovated a number of properties on Galveston Island, and like the laid-back atmosphere of the island.
Tony Akin purchased this cottage in 2007
There are very few cottages on the East End that have views of the Gulf, so I was excited when this house became available. It was essentially gutted and remodeled, with new central AC installed and the original wood floors totally refinished. We also added a fully-equipped kitchen with granite countertops.
Gulfview Retreat is within walking distance of some of the Island's most popular beaches (Poretto Beach, Stewart Beach), restaurants (Saltgrass Steakhouse, Benno's), and tourist attractions (Pleasure Pier. We chose to utilize bright colors and a retro, mid-century modern style in decorating, and many of the paintings are by local Galveston and Houston artists.
Very nice, plenty of room for my family. Very accurate description and had everything we needed for the beach and anything else. We found the property to be furnished the necessities that are sometimes forgotten. Customer service was outstanding as well. Couldn't have dreamed of a better experience and will definitely go again.
Great weekend in Galveston. The home was very comfortable and clean. It had everything we needed. Ron was there to meet us and show us around. I would definitely stay at this home, again!
Tony and Ron provided everything we could want or need. We really appreciate their hospitality. We lived in Houston for 25 years and traveled to Galveston for a vacation every year. We always stayed in a house on the beach. This is the first time we stayed in town near the beach. This cottage provided the best of both. We were close enough to the beach to see the ocean and feel the breezes. Afternoons on the deck were wonderful. The close proximity to town afforded us the opportunity to frequent all our favorite restaurants and haunts. We highly recommend this seawall cottage. Bill and Sharan McBride
What a great house to host our annual Girls' Weekend! It was comfortable, clean and so close to all the beachy attractions. The kitchen was well stocked and the beds were comfortable as well. Towels, linens and beach towels were all included so that made packing easier! I have rented homes for over 20 years and this is one house I would rent again.
We had a great Halloween anniversary here. Even though it rained virtually all weekend there were plenty of movies and good internet so we popped popcorn and cooked Mexican hot chocolate. Our baby back the was about 8 month old GSD had plenty of room and her crate fit fine in the front room. We walked for potty breaks just fine and the salt grass steak house was in walking distance and great food. We walked down to pleasure pier once the rain let up. It was a great weekend we made good memories Would love to stay again.
This was my first time using VRBO or renting a house/cottage for vacation. It was so easy and quick. We absolutely adored the cottage and it's convenience to just about everything. The owner and managers were so very friendly and responded quickly. I am already trying to plan another trip soon. I highly recommend this cottage to anyone wishing to have a get away and still have the comforts of being at home. Thanks for making this experience a memorable one.
Walking distance to new Pleasure Pier. Close to downtown area, UTMB, cruise terminals, and all major tourist attractions.
