Pet Friendly--and they love it!: Our canine guests love the Treehouse. They can romp in the leaves, chase squirrels, splash in the water and have full run of the property. The outdoor shower works well in cleaning up our canine guests should they get a little dirty! Our canine guest rate is $22.00 a night, per canine.
*Note: We love our canine guests. If our canine guests like to relax in the house, it is their owner's responsibility to be sure the canine guests do not go into the sleeping area, that throw rugs are removed, and upholstered furniture is covered with sheets provided. We hope taking these precautions will minimize the amount of hair and dander that will need to be cleaned. If there is excessive cleaning as a result of our canine guests, the owner may be charged for the additional cost.
After a 30 year career, I chose a vacation rental business because of the opportunities it offers to meet some really interesting people and offer them a great place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle.
Sandy Hightower purchased this cabin in 2007
The Treehouse Vacation Cabin is located on the Colorado River a short drive from Austin, Houston, and San Antonio. It is rare to find such a wonderful piece of waterfront property that is so centrally located.
The Colorado River at this location has continued to have a good flow of water even in the extreme drought of recent years. It is an attraction for kayakers, boaters and fishermen.
For birdwatchers, the area offers many opportunities to see land and waterfowl.
Seasonal fly-fishing opportunities are available.
We fell in love with the property when we saw the park at the water's edge, the birds (including Bald Eagles), the deer, and wildlife.
The stone fireplace is very romantic. We even provide the firewood.
The deck below allows for gatherings of family and friends.
The Colorado River offers bass and catfish galore! The river is a popular place for kayaking and canoeing. If you don't have your own equipment, there are 2 companies in Bastrop that have rentals and can assist you on the river.
The Treehouse is a great place for family reunions and weddings. The covered patio is a large area for set-up and the grounds allow for tents, blow up bouncy houses and plenty of parking.
There are 2 RV hookups for additional guests who wish to bring along their own home.
Adjacent to The Treehouse property is a farm with Texas Longhorns and horses. Our guests love to see the animals.
The Treehouse property is located 3 miles east of Smithville. A short drive from Austin (40 miles) and about 1-1/2 hours from Houston and San Antonio. It is only 25 miles from I-10 and Hwy 290. Our guests love the easy access.
Our guests treat and consider The Treehouse as their own vacation home. They know when they arrive that the house is very clean, well maintained and outfitted. They only need to bring along their food and personal items. Once they visit, our guests come back again and again!
Unlike other vacation rentals, at The Treehouse we do not regularly charge additional fees for cleaning or deposits for nightly rentals when paid via credit card. Please email or call to book The Treehouse Vacation Cabin.

Thank you Sandy and Mike for a lovely weekend! 🤗
Treehouse has been our reunion destination for the last two years and we are already looking for dates for next year. It is the perfect location and has everything we need to relax and catch up. It has become a very special place for us to meet from around the state and we will be back without a doubt!
We spent 5 days in the cabin and had a wonderful time. All of our basic needs were met and even our dogs needs were considered. Dog bowls were available and some complimentary puppy treats were provided. The cabin was well situated on the lot. It was back from the road among the trees and was a welcome escape.
I planned a big surprise party for my husbands 40th birthday. The owners of the property where very polite and accommodating.. The property was well maintained and gorgeously placed amongst beautiful trees, just a stones throw from the Colorado river.. It was a small piece of heaven. Needless to say, the party went off without a hitch. The place was perfect for a large group.. We will deffenitly be going back!!!!!!
A little bit of peaceful heaven! Loved our weekend getaway at The Treehouse! Comfy, clean and quaint! All the trees and the cool breeze made it so enjoyable! Smithville is a lovely little town and we loved shopping on Main Street and driving around looking at all the old beautiful homes! Austin is just a short jaunt away! Thanks for a great weekend to a great host!!!
