The Rocky Mountain Front Retreat is located 23 miles NW of Choteau, at close to 5,000 feet above sea level, on a 20 acre section of the historic Moore homestead established in 1919. If you are looking to experience the 'last best place' in the Crown of the Continent, where the rugged Rocky Mountains meet the expansive Great Plains, this is it.
Many outdoor activities are at your door step, such as hiking, photography, running or biking. Also, there are over 1,000 miles of wilderness trails close by in the Lewis and Clark National Forest and the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Plus, there are fishing, hunting and skiing opportunities in season.
There are very few places to stay located on the Rocky Mountain Front. It is sparsely populated with plenty of wildlife viewing, including: mule and white tail deer, elk, many varieties of birds, grizzly and black bears, chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels.
For those times you prefer to be cozy and stay indoors, the interior is comfortable and inviting, with quality furniture, and fully-equipped kitchen(s). The area is very quiet if you are looking for some writing or other creative time.
The Retreat has just been upgraded with high speed internet and two flat screen TVs for streaming from the internet, together with DVD players for watching movies.
High speed WiFi is available, as is a land line phone for local calls.
Introductory pricing from $120 to 220 per night (plus cleaning fee and taxes).

The Retreat is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountain Front on the edge of wilderness, yet not too far from town. It truly is part of the Crown of the Continent.
We built on the 'old homestead' about 20 years ago, with a major addition and total renovations completed over the last year, to create the Rocky Mountain Front Retreat. Family members have been spending time there, in all seasons, for many decades.
Aki and Laura Lintunen purchased this chateau / country house in 1992
The property has been in the family for 5 generations; however, the Rocky Mountain Front Retreat is a modern and comfortable place in the 'last best place' on the Rocky Mountain Front which is part of the Crown of the Continent.
We are now excited to share the experience with discerning travelers who are looking for something unique.
There are very few places to stay located on the Rocky Mountain Front. It is sparsely populated with plenty of wildlife viewing, including mule and white tail deer, elk, many varieties of birds, black and grizzly bear, chipmunks, rabbits and squirrels.
The Rocky Mountain Front Retreat is nestled between the Lewis and Clark National Forest and Bob Marshall Wilderness to the west and the Pine Butte Preserve and the Great Plains to the east.
Thank you again for another wonderful stay at your property. We found the home in clean and orderly condition. The directions provided before our arrival made the check in process quite simple. The directions to the home are easy to follow as are the directions for getting the keys and accessing the home. We love the quiet setting of the home and there is nothing like waking up to the views and wonderful Montana breezes. We love the quiet solitude of the home and the fact that unless we needed anything we didn't see a person! Thank you again for opening your home to us. It is the perfect spot to access the Rocky Mountain Front. We will be back!
Location, Location, Location! Anyone looking for outdoor activities, this is the place! You are minutes away from hikes that are hard to beat. We did the hike up to Hidden Lake, and enjoyed all the natural beauty! We had the Elk property for a week and enjoyed every minute of it. It was Dad, two adult sons and a nephew. Plenty of room, good beds, and a view out your front door that makes it worth while all by it self! We cooked trout or BarBQ'd every night. Aki was a great host and full of help full information and directions. We look forward to future stays, and exploring the Choteau area more in the future. A huge bonus was being able to attend the Agusta Rodeo! The oldest rodeo in Montana! One note of caution, driving at dawn & dusk be cautious of wild game, there is plenty in the area. On a good recommendation from the fine folks at Grizzly Sports, we picked up cans of bear spray. While trout fishing, we never saw a bear, how ever there was plenty of tracks and fresh sign. A true Montana adventure! Martin Carstens
The house was very nice, clean, and spacious with comfortable beds. The owners were accommodating and helpful. The location is beautiful as well. It was a great place to stay when spending the weekend skiing at Teton Pass.
We enjoyed both suites and highly recommend this great VRBO! Close to Teton Pass for skiing and cozy to come back to. The property had everything our larger group needed. Excellent place to stay near Choteau!!
We were thoroughly pleased with our stay at the Rocky Mountain Front Retreat. From the moment of inquiry to departure the owners/managers were incredibly responsive, easy to work with and made the whole process very easy. The location is spectacular - and the house was perfectly comfortable. It was very clean, tidy and clearly well taken care of. We will absolutely return! Thank you for such an enjoyable stay at your beautiful property!
First of all, the property is perfection. Aki's directions to the house were flawless, although we still managed to get lost, all part of the adventure! The house itself is beautiful and very new. Everything about it screams comfort! From the huge tv to the huge bed- its all about rest and relaxation in that home. The couches were comfy, the decor was cozy and I don't even know where to start when it comes to the property itself. Such beauty! My Husky was in heaven chasing butterflies and grasshoppers. There is a creek to go swimming in just a quick walk down the driveway. Other than the birds and bees, you can't hear a sound, make sure you get food and supplies on your way in, you won't want to have to go back into town for anything and leave the amazing sanctuary. We were lucky enough to meet Aki during our stay and he was very friendly and welcoming. I can't find enough good words to say about our stay there. I highly recommend it!!
This majestic, scenic property is located on the historic Moore Homestead, founded in 1919. It overlooks the Saw Tooth Range of the Rocky Mountain Front. It is close to the trail head for Ear Mountain and has about 1,000 miles of trails in the close by Lewis and Clark National Forest and Bob Marshall Wilderness. It is truly a part of the 'last best place' on the Crown on of the Continent.
The homestead is located only a 1/2 mile from the Teton River, and is adjacent to the original A.B. Guthrie Jr place, the American Pulitzer Prize author of The Way West, and Big Sky, among other books. Guthrie noted that he returned to his place facing Ear Mountain after publishing these novels as it was his 'point of outlook on the universe.'
Also close by is the Old North Trail where, according to many, the original inhabitants of North America traversed in the safety of the shadow of the rocky mountains.
Egg Mountain one of the largest finds of dinosaur eggs is just down the Bellview Road. Remember Jurassic Park? The scientists were digging at Egg Mountain at the beginning of the movie.
Nature's Conservancy is conserving and protecting large areas of land in the area, including the Pine Butte Preserve, which is the only place where Grizzlies roam from the mountains to the great plains. They also work closely as part of the community on common interests, such as the awareness and management of noxious weeds identification and control.
Often the only sounds heard are created by nature. Watch the birds dip and dive among the ancient jack pines, feasting on the pine cone nuts. Little chipmunks and rabbits are amusing to watch as they run along and hide among the rocks close by. Deer often forage in the area, sometimes coming within feet of the windows in the Retreat.
The Rocky Mountain Front Retreat is located at close to 5000 feet above sea level on the edge of wilderness, yet close to amenities. A variety of interesting walks and hikes are nearby; something for nearly all age and ability levels. Choteau is 23 miles away and Great Falls is 75 miles away.
Glacier National Park is about 1 1/2 hours away and Missoula is just over 3 hours away.
