This original farm house to a historic 300 acre ranch (now the Hanalei Garden Farm Estates) is equipped with high speed wireless, updated stainless steel kitchen, HDTV, and ipod docks.
Enter through the spacious lanai, where Gardenias, Chanel # 5 trees, and Pua-kini-kini flowers scent the air. Relax on the 600 square foot sunporch, complete with seating area, and dining area for 10 overlooking the grounds.
The main floor of the home has a living room with large flat screen tv, another dining room accommodating up to 10 guests, a stainless steel country kitchen, 2 bedrooms and a full bathroom.
Upstairs there are two more bedrooms and a den plus a Jack and Jill bathroom (two separate toilet/sink areas with a shared bath/shower). Total sleeping accommodations in the home include a king, 2 queens, 2 twins and daybed. High count luxury linens are provided for each bed.

Our family lived on Kauai for 7 years, and have since returned to San Francisco. We continue to love the island, and long for our beautiful yard.
2.5 acres of beautiful flat green grass, tropical flowers, fruit trees, mountains, waterfalls, beach and Hanalei Bay. A world class view.
Property was great, location is good house is very simple and clean. Definitely no frills which was fine with our group. Porch is amazing! Wish I was back there.
First, after I initially posted this one-star review, the owner called me and tried to guilt me into changing it. This was totally unwarranted and uncalled for. I have an opinion, and without it, the rating system doesn't work. I did not have any issue with the owner previously. She was responsive, and tried to do what she could to make us comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. Second, if you drill down to the bottom of the reviews and read the other one-star review, I agree with everything that person posted regarding the house.
- I wanted one thing when booking a house - a view. This house does NOT have a view. It is not overlooking Hanalei Bay. The only way to get a view is to walk to the very end of the 2.5 acres, and to peer between houses out at the Bay. The view pictures on the website are deceiving; they are zoomed in and others were taken from the neighbor's front yard. There is no access to the bluff from the house.
- I needed one thing when booking a house - air conditioning in all of the bedrooms. My sister is very sick and requires it, and she cannot walk up and down stairs. Only the upstairs bedrooms had AC, which is thankful because they get very, very hot. To her credit, Susan, the owner, did purchase a unit for one of the downstairs bedrooms after we were there about a week.
- The "fire pit" is just a pile of wood, and there is absolutely no view from it. There also are no Adirondack chairs around it.
- The furniture is dilapidated and torn. The chairs and couch are covered in white sheets, covering up their condition. The couch was so worn down that we were basically sitting on the frame. Also, a lot of the bedding has stains on it.
- The floors are painted plywood throughout, and the paint kept coming off on our feet.
- The upstairs bathroom is the strangest bathroom I’ve ever seen. It is one long bathroom with TWO TOILETS – one on either side of the shower. Also, the pocket doors that are on either end don't close, and don't allow for privacy, which is not good when renting with a large group of people.
- One window was broken, another boarded up with an extension cord running through it for the water heater, and another was missing entirely upstairs.
- We killed about 20 HUGE cockroaches and 1 centipede.
To make a long story short, I was very disappointed for the amount of money we paid. I truly wish I could include pictures in this review.
We really enjoyed our stay here at farmhouse. The 9 of us decided to escaped the Colorado snow for a little Kauai sunshine in January. The access road tends to be a little busy. The lighthouse and wildlife refugee is closed from January thru April. The house is very rustic as it is an old farmhouse, the layout is a little weird but very functional. There is lots of room for the kids to run around. It is not on the bluffs but you do have a little view of the bluffs. Definitely will stay again.
This farmhouse had many wonderful features. The garden is amazing and the view from the backyard is picturesque. The upstairs bedrooms can get very hot during the day but the window air conditioners worked well to cool them before bed. We truly enjoyed the enclosed patio and bbq. About a 20 minute walk to St. Regis and 2 minute drive to Foodland.
Given any opportunity, we would rent this home again. The owner is very responsive. I had many, many questions ahead of time, and she patiently responded to them all. The house is old and charming. We spent the majority of our time on the screened lanai. The location is fantastic for all activities on that side of the island. The towels and bedding were high quality; the kitchen had everything we needed. We had six adults and an infant, and there was more than enough room for all of us. Everything was clean and well-prepared for us.
Having said that, some aspects that may not be quite what you want: The home is old. To us it was charming; to others it may not be. It has been lovingly renovated, but there are uneven floors, oddly placed electrical switches, and a few other quirks that didn't impact our visit, but may bother others. The upstairs got very warm during the afternoons, to the extent that the folks staying up there, didn't use their rooms. There are small window air conditioners, but in the heat of the day, that wasn't enough. We really weren't in the house enough for it to matter; downstairs remained comfortable all day; the evenings/nights were fine. There is quite a bit of new home construction along the side road. Traffic was pretty consistent right next to the house, but it was one car at a time and completely stopped by late afternoon.
It's Hawaii -- it rained every day; there are bugs (some quite large and "interesting") everywhere; the red dirt really will stain a shirt!
If you're looking for a family-friendly home to rent, this property will provide you a unique experience in a prime location.
My extended family loved the Hanalei Farmhouse! North shore beaches were a short drive away, the kitchen was well equipped and the dining and garden areas were lovely. The house is clean - decorated with bright new white. Charmingly funky worked for two families with grandparents.
A 45 minute drive from the Lihue/Kauai airport.
Walking distance to St Regis Hotel and its public beach, local shopping, restaurants and gym. Five minute drive to the center of Hanalei and the world famous Hanalei Bay beach with its view of 'Puff the Magic Dragon'/Bali Hai.- Snorkel and swim off the beaches of beautiful North Shore Kauai - then return as the sun is setting to enjoy the screened lanai or expansive grounds with a full view of Hanalei Bay and its surrounding mountains.

PAYMENT – An deposit payment equal to 50% of the rental rate is required when signing the contract. The advance payment is not a security deposit. The BALANCE OF RENT is due (30) days before your arrival date.

CANCELLATIONS - A 30 days notices is required for cancellation. Cancellations that are made more than 30 days prior to the arrival date will not be responsible for second payment. Cancellations 60 days in advance of stay will receive half deposit back Cancellations or changes that result in a shortened stay, that
are made within 30 days of the arrival date, forfeit the full advance payment. Cancellation or early departure does not warrant any refund of rent Cancellations that we are able to rebook will be refunded.
MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY – The maximum number of guests is limited to 8 persons.
INCLUSIVE FEES – Rates include a one-time linen & towel setup. Facilities fees are included in the rental rate.
WRITTEN EXCEPTIONS – Any exceptions to the above mentioned policies must be approved in writing in advance.
PARKING – Parking is limited to two vehicles. Vehicles are to be parked in designated parking areas only. Parking on the road is not permitted. Any illegally parked cars are subject to towing; applicable fines/towing fees are the sole responsibility o
