My husband and I both were raised in a beach community; he is from South Carolina and I am from New Jersey. Moving to New England brought us again to the coast. When we discovered Cape Cod we feel in love with the quaintness, the character and the natural beauty. When our daughter came along we decided she too should have the experience of being on the water. It is so tranquil. Both my husband and I are in the very hectic retail business, owning 8 stores so tranquility is important, we love our get aways to Chatham where we can slow the pace and smell the 'roses'. When we tell our dog 'lucky we are going to the beach she can't wait, dogs need tranquility too.
The Owner purchased this mill in 2002
When researching what towns on Cape Cod that we thought we might like, we talked to many people. We had visited the island of Nantucket and wanted a similar feel but not the difficulty of getting there. The recommendations were unanimous that we visit Chatham. We loved it! Our first home in Chatham was actually one of our stores with a second floor apartment. When our daughter was young it was perfect for us. We then discovered we were coming to Chatham and working instead of enjoying so we decided to sell this home and buy something else. The requirement was on the water and close to town, a hard combination to find. We had a great realtor and he found us the perfect spot. Our home, a compound of four cottages, has everything; on the water and close to town. We can walk to everything. We love not having to get in the car. We love our walks on the beach and through town. We love going into shops where they 'know your name'. We love the band concerts and then grabbing a little dinner at the 'Squire'. When we cook at home, the fresh seafood makes everything taste much better. And when I need something to complete a recipe, the (new) Chatham Village Market is right down the street. Chatham's charm is so refreshing. Our area is so beautiful with so many beautiful homes, all enjoying the views of Oyster Pond. This is our 9th year and our home on the water is a dream come true for our family. As we go through every rental season we love hearing our tenants comments so we know they love our home as much as we do.
When we have the opportunity to stay in our 'wind Mill' it is like being away, far away. It is so relaxing and comfortable it makes slowing the pace real simple. We love sipping our wine at the end of the day while watching the sun set over the water. We love the peacefulness of eating in the garden while viewing the water. This 'wind Mill' cottage makes life feel simple.
The Windmill delights. It is small and tight but charming and tastefully decorated and comfortable. The location is ideal: Set in a garden of a residential, upscale neighborhood; quiet but close to the village and shops overlooking the beautiful Pond.
Be aware, the upstairs bedroom is accessed by a steep staircase. Therefore I would not recommend the Windmill to anyone with physical limitations or children....But my (adult) daughter and I love it!
Perfect for two, quiet, comfortably furnished. We enjoyed a week here while visiting with family staying at a house nearby. Lovely private patio, two sitting rooms, an easy walk to the commercial center of Chatham. The only drawbacks were no counter space in the kitchen and the steep stairs separating the bedroom from the bathroom. We did not intend to cook so that was not a problem for us and we managed the stairs gingerly. The king bed, open to lovely marine breezes, was heaven.
The Windmill is situated perfectly and close to the water and town. We enjoyed morning and afternoon bike rides from this convenient location and enjoying the beautiful location and water view. The Windmill is charming.
I booked the Windmill as a surprise present for my wife and took our two year old, having first spent a few days in Boston. I cannot fault the Windmill in terms of its location or position. It's a few minutes walk from Chatham high street where there's enough going on to make it feel that there's something going on and people about (we visited end of October so cant speak about other times). To save repeating other posts - the location is wonderful, on the edge of the water, lovely to look out on during the day and allowing lovely autumn sunsets. Chatham's position on the Cape means it's equidistant from all the key attractions, but has the relaxed pace that make you feel as if you are away.
Being a character property, the stairs are steep and wooden, which our daughter loved but caused us a bit of angst, but what else would you expect from a Windmill. It didnt detract from the stay, just to make others aware. The rest of the windmill is beautifully decorated with enough mod cons to suit 2 (or 2.5) adults.
We also had the pleasure of meeting Stan and Linda, the owners.
Thank you for making our stay at the Windmill such a memorable experience and adding to our holiday. We feel really lucky to have stayed there and hope to visit again. I dont hesitate for a second in recommending the Windmill or the other properties within the plot

To avoid vacationing traffic we only stayed Sunday - Friday but regretted our departure. Wonderful setting, location could not be better & cottage is spotless & tastefully appointed. The outdoor dining (with grille) was most enjoyable. Privacy was appreciated and no words big enough to describe the Quiet! Oyster Pond is just across the street and we walked into town & local restaurants. I highly recommend this Piece of Heaven!
I have been going to Cape Cod since I was a little girl and it is my favorite place to vacation. And Chatham is one our favorite towns to stay in, too. This was our first time staying at the Windmill and we just loved it!! The owners (Linda & Stan) were staying in the main house when we arrived and they are both delightful. Staying at the Windmill was a wonderful alternative to a motel on the Cape. And we've stayed at a lot of them on the Cape over the years! So much more personal, comfortable and roomy.
Every little detail to make the stay most pleasant has been thought of. The interior is beautifully decorated and spotless and made us feel right at home. And it's much bigger inside than the pictures indicate. Very, very comfortable for the 2 of us, but I think 4 people would enjoy it just as well. Please be aware that the stairs to the bedroom are very steep and narrow so one person chose to sleep on the sofa bed off of the dining area because of a foot problem. The sofa bed was reasonably comfortable. The upstairs bedroom is uniquely charming with it's Windmill-y 8-sided shape, and the king bed very comfortable. During our stay we had mostly sunny and cool weather so we were able to sit out in the lawn chairs with our lobster rolls and wine and just relax and enjoy the view. It was wonderful and we couldn't get enough of it!! Wish I could post a picture!! The Wi-Fi and Cable TV worked well, and we also used the laundry facilities (in the garage) - it sure beat having to sit in a laundromat! The landscaping is very well kept and the flowers and forsythia were in bloom which just added to the charm of the place.
If you would enjoy a unique and refreshing taste of the Cape set in a beautiful town, then I HIGHLY recommend a stay at the Windmill. You won't be disappointed.
