Situated at a cool 2700' elevation in the saddle between Mauna Kea and the Kohala mountains, amid the Historic Parker Ranch, this cute downstairs duplex with separate 2 car garage for your use, sleeps 2-4 comfortably, private and quiet in a rural, working class neighborhood (no parties or loud noise please). Great for couples, friends, families, perfect for neighbor island or mainland kamaaina coming home to Big Island for family, sporting or other special events. If you would like to see the whole island, this a great location for you.
We are located about 20-30 minutes from the Kohala Coast beaches and resorts, an hour from both Hilo and Kona towns. The weather in this part of the island is similar to New Zealand in that it ranges from blustery tradewinds and rain to Idyllic, warm and sunny, with night time temperatures sometimes dipping into the 50's in the winter months. The surrounding landscape is lush, pastoral rolling hills and fields, complete with horses, cows and sheep.
The property is a quarter acre, 3 bedroom duplex, 2 bedroom/ one bath house with a 2 car garage for guests downstairs, separate upstairs apartment in the back, owners on site, available to help out with any questions you may have, but very private and quiet. We take care of cleaning and maintenance, thus keeping prices most affordable.
The house is 900 square feet, tucked away behind the front garage, large yard, with a king bed in the master bedroom, two twin beds in the second bedroom, full kitchen for dining in after a fun day adventuring, 5 miles from Kamuela town featuring a full range of culinary delights from finest dining to local deli style and everything in between, local produce from the farmers'markets, Zumba and fitness centers, yoga available for those in mind of a healthy vacation experience.
Our neighborhood is small, working class, kid friendly so we just ask for your respect and careful driving.

This is a great VRBO to explore the big island. The location is in a nice, rural, central spot to explore many of the highlights the Big Island has to offer. It's less than 30 minutes to the best beaches and snorkeling, an hour to Hilo and an hour to Kona, and super close to the Waipio Valley and Waimea. The house has everything you need in a base camp/home away from home. We appreciated the beach towels, boogie boards and snorkel gear in the garage. Gemma is a warm, friendly host with a wonderful spirit. I'd highly recommend this rental for couples or families with 2 or less kids.
As a note, I grew up in Waimea (Kamuela), 10 minutes away, which I do believe has that perfect mix of small town feel, resources, amenities and the perfect blend of weather (not roasting hot, small chance of Hawaiian afternoon mist/rain). Be sure to check out the Wednesday/Saturday Farmers Markets, roam town, and my favorite, grab coffee at Waimea Coffee Company and browse the nearby shops. All great for gifts and quality souvenirs (Galley of Great Things has some really nice pieces). This area truly is the adventures dream location for exploring the best this Island has to offer, including Hapuna Beach, Waialea Bay, the Hamakua and Kohala Coasts. All nice locations for those who enjoy being outdoors, hiking, biking, running or swimming.

The home was really nice, but we wish there was a sofa to sit on, instead of a futon, due to my handicap.
I traveled to the Big Island for work and stayed in this nice cottage in Waimea. Where the weather is cooler. The cottage had all the amenities needed. Including secured parking for our equipment. I will return...
Convenient location for exploring north and south of Waimea. Lots of privacy behind the closed two car garage and very spacious, large enough for a family. Could use a toaster oven, but otherwise well stocked and furnished.
Gemma's wonderful cottage served as a temporary home base while we searched for long term housing after moving to the Big Island. Cottage is roomy and comfortable - Gemma is a great host!
Location is in a residential area. However, the property itself is very private and quiet. It was nice to not be surrounded by people and noise all the time. Visits from the neighborhood cats was an added bonus.
