Wonderful and peaceful stay

  • 5 of 5

Maggie and John are wonderful hosts. the cottage is very clean and the kitchen had the basics to get started. the location is quiet and is a great way to enjoy Maui away from the crowds- yet be close to amazing beaches. Maggie and John were receptive to our needs and we couldn't of asked for a more relaxed two week vacation. Highly recommend.

Beautiful cottage to relax and refresh. Perfect location, easily accessible. Ten minutes from Paia

  • 5 of 5

I'll begin by saying that we strategically chose two places on Maui to stay in order to have two different experiences. First- this beautiful, cozy, peaceful cottage right off the Road the Hana, near Haiku was a delight to find. We stayed 5 nights total before moving on.

We followed the instructions perfectly from the owner's on how to find and access the cottage from the airport. All went seamlessly, which was good because it was a late arrival for our family after a full day of flying. We are a family of five, traveling with 2 teens and a ten yr. old.

The first morning after arrival we read a note on the refrigerator left by owners giving recommendations to local groceries and stops. It was perfect, and we found the grocery store easily. Kitchen was well stocked with all that we would need at home. Also- a few refrigerator and cupboard staples were already present (sugar, spices, oil, butter, etc.) which was an incredible help.

There was plenty of sleeping space for all of us. Super comfy beds. One bathroom meant that we had to rotate our showers, but that's fine by us. Towels galore, plenty of linens.

Only had time to use the hot tub one time, but well-maintained and very clean area. Property had coconut and banana trees, and I am sure many others that I wouldn't know that names of. The owner even prepared two coconuts with straws for us to have a taste of coconut milk. Surprised and delighted...

My personal favorite part of the cottage was having the windows open to allow the cross winds to blow through all night. At first, we were concerned about no A/C, but then as the Haiku spirit set in, we eased in to enjoying the natural setting.

The Ualani Farm cottage was as described on the site. It was clean, well-maintained and cared for. We were so disappointed to have to leave our little cottage in Haiku to move to another side of the island. It provided us an experience that we will never forget on the country, more rain forest side of Maui. Until next time...

One Week of Peace and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Maggie and John offer a peaceful Upcountry Maui experience at a more than reasonable price and nowhere near tourist crowds. My wife and I stayed for a week in early May and couldn't have been more pleased. The house is clean, comfortable and even better once you open all the windows and let the trade winds blow through. The two-bedroom home sits close to a not-that-busy county road and is fully screened by tall bushes. John and Maggie's home is on the same property but quite a distance away and they give their guests all of the privacy they desire. A relaxing hot tub sits midway between the two homes and is not directly visible from either, for full privacy. Underneath the home is a washer/dryer, boxes of beach supplies, a Weber grill that can be rolled outside for cookouts (we did this twice - what a treat for us city folks!), and laundry lines to hang clothes for drying.

We live in downtown San Francisco, so the absence of noise was so refreshing to us - all day you hear little other than crickets, roosters on nearby farms, the comfortable trade winds rustling the palms, bamboo, and fruit trees, occasional rain showers......and that's about it! There isn't much to walk to, and I would not advise going for a stroll or bike ride on the adjacent road, nor letting kids stray beyond the property - county road 365 is quite narrow, and cars travel pretty quickly. There are notes in the house and at the front gate providing guidance on how to carefully pull out of the driveway.

So just be prepared to drive to everything you might want to do. Hanzawa's General Store (GREAT place, complete with full meals) is a 5-minute drive westward on 365, and a few minutes more takes you to the charming town of Makawao. A MUST-DO: get the butter rolls early in the day at T. Komoda Store and Bakery. They are life-changingly amazing! Proceeding eastward from the house for 2-3 miles on 365 puts you at a perfect starting point for the Road to Hana.

Overall, John and Maggie opened their unforgettable farm to us and we have returned home fully rested..... and already missing the grounds and the house.

First of all , let me start by saying that the owners Maggie and John were very quick to reply to all my messages with questions I had about the accommodations etc. The owners have many extras , that our family found useful for the vacation and made it much easier because we didn't have to pack sand buckets and toys and boogies boards etc. They really had everything you can think of for the beach. The farm is beautiful and a little bit away from the very touristy parts of Maui which we found great. Its nice and relaxing to be away from it all. The property is surrounded by lush , green abundance of fruit trees and bamboo. Its absolutely amazing to be in the middle of it. Its like being in a cabin /cottage in Maui. This was a change from our usual rental of condos and we loved it. The cottage is very clean. The owners let us have fresh bananas, they are delicious. We asked if we could try coconut and they brought us coconut with a straw. It was delicious, they went the extra mile and actually had refrigerated the coconut water because it tasted better then any coconut water I have ever had straight from the coconut. They also brought us a few papayas....they were so fresh......

There is also a farm cat named " trouble" on the property and he is a great cat. We quite enjoyed his company.

Maggie and John really give you all the privacy you need, and are available if you have questions . I highly recommend this place and it was a great experience. We will definitely come back! THANK YOU Maggie and John.

My wife and I ( and five year old son and three year old daughter) just spent five weeks at what we wish was our new home!!! The location is a very authentic Hawaiian experience. It was great to be able to let the kids run outside and play with no worries.

The home has everything plus more than you could wish for. Fully stocked with everything to make your visit enjoyable. John and Maggie and truly exceptional people, and after five weeks visiting their cottage we consider them to be friends. They do everything possible to welcome you and make you feel at home while also respecting your privacy.

If you want an awesome location, great cottage, and a relaxing vacation, this is the place for you.
