I am Ocean Grove's last remaining multi-generational innkeeper. My great-grandmother bought our hotel in 1898 and I'm the fourth generation woman in our family to own and operate it. It's been a blessing and a privilege to do so. But now it is time to let the Central Avenue House re-invent itself as a group rental. I hope your family enjoys it as much as ours has!
Jennifer purchased this Hotel in 1899
Why Jennifer chose Ocean Grove
I was fortunate enough to be born into a family of female hoteliers in the most beautiful sea shore location on earth.
What makes this Hotel unique
I love that you can walk just a few blocks and be anywhere you need to be! Whether it's two blocks to the beach or restaurants, or buying a quart of milk, getting the paper, going to the bank, post office or hardware store, everthing is so close! Best is walking into Asbury Park for the most exceptional musical and artistic culture you'll find anywhere. Asbury is the hipper, funkier, zanier cousin to Ocean Grove's Victorian, mom & pop, Americana, time stood still character. You've got the best of both worlds w/i blocks of each other when you stay at the Central Avenue House
Canceled bookings will not receive a refund
Our stay at the Central Ave House was everything we hoped for. The house has 150 years of history and the patina shows it. We had more than enough beds for the 17 people staying there. The place was very clean, accommodating, and very close to the ocean. Plus, the host was very kind and easy to communicate with by phone and email. We'll def stay here again.
Except for t storms today when we're leaving. ..lol...it was absolutely a delight
Charming and unique - great for groups!
This house was a perfect fit for a large group of us coming to celebrate one of our girlfriends. We had friends coming from DC, NY, LA, etc., and Jennifer made the process incredibly easy for all of us. Asbury Park was also a lot of fun, with a ton of great food, - and of course, the beach! This house is only a few blocks away, and we could come and go as needed. It is not a super modern home, for those who may be looking for that type of stay, however, its character -and location - easily makes up for it. (And is often more appealing in my opinion!) The house was also very well stocked with supplies, beach chairs, etc.
Thanks for a great stay, Jennifer!
Perfect spot for a (large) Family Reunion!
Central Ave House is one-of-a-kind! Our family of 19 came in from all over the country to celebrate Mom's 75th birthday, and we couldn't have been more comfortable. Everyone who wanted one had they're own bed - AND their own room, and each room had a sink & mirror. Translation: no fighting over bathroom space! Jennifer (the owner) had plenty of beach chairs and passes, which made the short walk to the beach easy for everyone. The house is also just a few blocks away from the shopping "district" - which gave us a chance to grab a latte in the morning without ditching the family for too long :)
One note: most of our family is Orthodox Jewish, which means we needed to bring all our own food for the entire weekend (for 19 people!). Thanks to the fact that there are TWO kitchens - and therefore two refrigerators - we were able to have plenty of space for 4 meals, plus snacks & coffee & wine & spirits and two birthday cakes!
And Jennifer was a dream to work with. Super communicative from the first email to the last text goodbye, available and helpful when we needed her but left us to our own devices as soon as we were settled. And when we realized that we couldn't light shabbat candles in the house (it being an all wood historical structure), she went out and bought us battery-operated candles that we could use instead. She was friendly and thoughtful - a wonderful combination in a host :)
Long story short - if you're looking for a beach house that easily accommodates a large group, this is definitely the spot for you!
Oh Susan, you can't know how much it means to me and my family that your family enjoyed the communion that we always did when we all lived there. Shabbat is sacred. It was a small gesture to ensure both allegiance to it and to modern day safety. Thank you for letting me meet and laugh with your family! Jen
Comfortable - All necessities included - Amazing host - Perfect beach house
My friends and I all stayed here for a reunion - it slept 25 of us very comfortably with everyone having their own room or sharing a very large room. The host was so incredibly helpful and sweet - Jennifer gave us great suggestions about things to do in the area as well as the best ice cream and pizza place in the area. She went out of her way to provide a comfortable house for everyone - she provided beach tags, beach towels, beach chairs and umbrellas, fully equipped kitchens, and a whole lot of other things. We were all very pleased with our stay, and everyone wanted to book another stay this summer. We definitely plan on making it a summer tradition.
Perfect for a large Family vacation!!!!
This house was perfect for my son's wedding. We had friends and family come from all over the country, and this huge and cozy house allowed us gathering and privacy all in one place. Close to beach, stocked with beach items (including beach passes), air conditioners in every room. Walking distance to everything we needed. Owner was close at hand if needed!!! Wonderful to work with and provided excellent information prior to our arrival regarding things to do - made planning so much easier. We all loved it!
No, thank you for being such easy and fun guests! I hope you can come back again next year.
Ocean Grove was founded in 1869 as an outgrowth of the camp meeting movement in the United States. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has more per capita Victorian architecture than any other town in the United States. You don't even need a vehicle during your stay as everything in town is within walking distance. World famous Asbury Park, home of Bruce Springsteen, is just a 5 minute walk away. Asbury has emerged as the new Brooklyn with its fine restaurants, arts, music and entertainment scene. There is always a festival feel to this City by the Sea. We're a mere 45 miles south of New York City - hop the train from Asbury and be enchanted by all the City has to offer. Philadelphia is 70 miles west and easily accessible by bus or auto. Within 10 - 30 minutes by car you can indulge in marina fishing, golf, horseback riding/the track, Great Adventure amusement center & animal park and PNC Art Center concert hall. Atlantic City is 75 miles south.
