About Jeff McPhail

Our family has been involved in the building trades in Marin for over 100 years. We love the beach and enjoy surfing and water sports. We love having family and friends out in Bolinas and never get tired of walking the beach and to town. We know you will love it here.

Jeff McPhail purchased this house in 1996

Why Jeff McPhail chose The Bay Area

We chose 93 Brighton first for its proximity to Brighton Beach and Downtown. Next because of its historic charm. The house has an 'Old Soul' quality with all the comforts and conveniences you would expect.

What makes this house unique

Because the house is so close to the beach, I remain gratefull each time I come out of the water and am able to jump immediately into the hot outside shower or hot tub. The kids can come and go to the beach as they like. I enjoy walking with a freshly brewed cup of coffee the length of the beach first thing in the morning. Walking into town is always enjoyable with a visit to the peoples store, The surf shop, bookstore, library, the bolinas market, smileys or the Coast Cafe for a wonderful Breakfast.

Fabulous beach house!

This was my great-grandparents house and all the family enjoyed getting to return. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed to relive the good old days and enjoy the beach!

This is an excellent place for a large gathering. Our extended family of 12 people ranging in age from 9 to 84, spent Dec 30 and New Year's Eve at this marvelous house. It is comfortable, well appointed and handsome. There are actually two buildings, just yards apart, the main house and a cottage. The kitchen is well appointed, the beds are very comfortable, the living and dining rooms are spacious. The house has an old-fashioned elegance and yet seems right for a beach house. We have been renting houses over the New Year's Holiday for years, so we can all be together, and this house and its location, a two-minute walk from the beach, is the best house we have rented. We plan to reconvene there again, next year. It was so great not to have to get in cars to go to the beach; moreover, it is a lovely beach, very beautiful, next to the Bolinas Lagoon. Bolinas is a beautiful place.

We recommend this house very enthusiastically, with no reservations

Amazing Beach House!

  • 5 of 5

This home was perfect for our gathering. We were a group of ladies (ages 18-50ish) enjoying a relaxing, pampered getaway before my daughter’s wedding. The house was elegant yet captured the welcoming nature of a beach home. The kitchen was so well equipped that we cooked and ate most meals in. The dining room was lovely and accommodated us perfectly.

There were more than enough towels and linens for our DIY facials and spa treatments. We really enjoyed the large deck for gathering and soaking up the scenery. There was plenty of room for everyone to sleep and the cottage was so cute everyone fought over it! The location was incredible too. We parked our cars and walked to the beach and town, we loved the eclectic crowd, shops and galleries. This is truly a lovely home and fabulous place for families and friends to spend some quality time together. We hope to return soon!

Fabulous location and great deck for people watching!

  • 5 of 5

This house could not have been more perfect for our stay in Bolinas! It is close to the beach and the middle of town, and the property has great spots for hanging out both indoors and outdoors. The deck on the front of the house overlooks the street, so we enjoyed the sunshine and watched the beachgoers and surfers come and go. The dining room table was big enough to accommodate all 11 of us for a delicious pasta dinner. The kitchen was very well appointed, and we were never at a loss for a utensil or serving dish. The house and garden are kept very clean, and everyone in the group commented on the comfortable beds. Thanks so much for a great stay! We'll be back!

Best Spot in Bolinas!

  • 5 of 5

This historic beach house worked great for our 2 couples plus kiddos. It's spacious with a big comfortable living room, huge dining room, and nice kitchen with direct access to the private courtyard, hot tub, and guest cottage in back. There's off street parking and an outdoor shower too.

Jeffery was quick to respond during booking and we had a wonderful stay. The location is stellar. Turn left, go 50 yards, and your toes are in the sand. Turn right and town is just around the corner. We enjoy staying in Bolinas so much more than Stinson these days -- no crowds and way more charm. Anyways, Jeffrey's family beach home is a great value and we'd love to return soon.

Relaxing, beautiful, perfect house

  • 5 of 5

This is literally the perfect vacation house. It is beautifully and comfortably decorated in a sort of beachy, shabby chic style. It feels like the best of being in your own home, but with all the perks and upside of being on vacation. And even more amazing than the house itself is the location! It couldn't be better.

We headed here for a relaxing getaway and we got just that. Each day we threw a couple of things in a bag and walked, barefoot, the approximately 20 yards down to the beach. Knowing we could easily walk back to use the restroom or make lunches made each beach day easy. When we wrapped it up at the beach, we came back to the house and used the warm outdoor shower to rinse off the sand, then headed for a dip in the hot tub.

This house is perfectly equipped for families. We had three families there, and there is ample space to not feel like you're tripping over anyone. There is also a charming little garden area behind the house where we enjoyed our daily "happy hour" as the kids played. The whole property is serene and peaceful, as is the town itself, and of course, the beautiful beach.

I can't recommend this house highly enough. If you are looking for a beautiful home with all modern amenities yet still keeping a very relaxed, comfortable feel, and of course, great access to one of northern California's most perfect beaches, you cannot go wrong with this property. I can't wait to go back.
