Overview

Jay House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Enjoy over 1250 feet of private access on the famous East branch of the AuSable River while you stay in this newly-renovated Adirondack home. This river is world-renowned for its fly fishing enjoyment. The wide expanse with pools, rocks and deep open areas provides exciting trout action. A secluded private beach is a special feature of our property.

Originally constructed in 1840, this home has pine walls, hardwood floors and rustic decor that compliment the natural surroundings. This non-smoking home, has a large eat-in kitchen, three br, living room and den with plenty of room for large families. Roam over five acres that include open meadow, pine forest or sit on the covered porch to enjoy the sound and sight of rushing water.

On this site is a 24' x 26' barn. A quiet road lends easy access to property. New York State land directly across from the property protects the privacy of fishermen, swimmers and sunbathers. The shoreline has sandy beach areas and is large enough for setting up a tent, blankets for a picnic and reclining in lounge chairs. The property is along Ironman Bike course. We are located on the Keene/Upper Jay border.

Set in the high peaks, many recreational activities are nearby and can be enjoyed year round. For fishing, hiking, canoeing, tubing, rock climbing, biking, hunting, golfing, horseback riding etc., this is a great spot.

Mount Von Hovenberg and Whiteface Mountain Olympic venues are just 15 minutes away. Convenient to the quaint village of Lake Placid and the Olympic Center Complex, just 20 minutes away. International airports at Montreal, Canada, Albany, New York and Burlington Vt, are less than 2 hours away by car. Lake Champlain and the ferries to Vermont less than 40 minutes to the East.

Wonderful Experience

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house with another couple for a weekend in late September. The house is very nicely done and has everything you need. The location is excellent with the Ausable River right across the road. There is also a great fire pit with chairs between the house and the river. The beach area on the river is beautiful and secluded. The house is surrounded by a large grass field which is nice for sitting out, throwing a ball, etc. The general location is central to the High Peaks, Keene, Lake Placid, Wilmington/Whiteface and Jay. The owners are very friendly and honest. We will definitely stay here again.

If you ever decide to sell...

This was probably the best vacation experience we have ever had as family. The house is awesome, the river location is phenomenal, and the layout of the property is perfect for active kids! Looking forward to a return trip in the coming years.

Loved it!

  • 5 of 5

Just got home from vacation today, wanted to comment while still all fresh in my mind. We arrived at house 1/2 hour early only to meet "caretaker" coming out of house after cleaning, she was very friendly and helpful with info. House was very clean and welcoming. My kids 12 and 14, boy and girl loved it and had great fun tubing in river. Dogs loved swimming and playing at beach. We hiked, shopped and mountain biked. Great base camp! We when to ausible chasm and tubed it was breathtaking!!! Even had a deer in yard eating apples!

Wonderful

  • 5 of 5

While it was only two of us, this place was perfect for just a couple, but would also be great for a group. Loved sitting on the porch, quite and cool, and watching a nest of 3 baby birds up in the porch roof, learn to fly and take off while we were there. Great place and Keene was a great location. Locals very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. If you're in the area during the season, make sure to check out the local Keene Valley farmer's market on Sunday. Great produce, baked goods and crafts!
