About Michael Brown

Mike and Lois moved from BC to enjoy the Muskoka experience. Mike is a professional Scuba Instructor (MSDT PADI 211856). Qualify here before you head south.

Michael Brown purchased this cottage in 1952

Why Michael Brown chose Muskoka

Lois’ parents built the cottage in 1952. She and her family enjoyed summers there. At that time there was no road and everybody and everything had to be brought across the lake by boat. Later Lois and her first husband Bob bought the cottage from her parents. They raised their family there enjoying full summers at the cottage. Her children had summer jobs in Gravenhurst and it was their second home.

Now Michael and Lois have had the cottage for 18 years. It is a well loved family place. Our neighbours have been there for almost as long as we have and we all love the lake and the surroundings.

What makes this cottage unique

Quietness, a place for personal reflection, prayer and reading. Special family times. Fun when kids are swimming, tubing, canoeing, and enjoying the lake.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Sadly the only downfall

  • 2 of 5

We rented the place for a weekend of fishing and to enjoy the great lake/gravenhurst experience. The swimming was great, the cottage was well kept and the location was key. The only issue we had was with the owner showing up every day to "check" on gravel being spread on the driveway conveniently scheduled on the weekend we booked the place. We also did not like the fact that they walked through the rooms and place on our time, this is technically illegal as a landlord, so of course this took away from the relaxing experience that we were looking for.

Relaxing couple of days

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a couple day of pre-summer relaxing days at this well-equipped cottage two hours north of Toronto. Being early May, the lake was quiet and country road leading to the cottage traffic free (although we suspect it would never be busy). The cottage is comfortable with all the creature comforts, the owners have put a lot of time and care into its upkeep. The dock out front is huge with full afternoon sun. This place would not be ideal for someone looking for total isolation ... Gravenhurst can be seen across the lake ... but it was a perfect getaway for us.

Fully equipped, comfortable, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for three nights and found the cottage to be clean, comfortable and well equipped. Everything we needed was there including cooking utensils, dishes, spices, etc. The patio is great - right at water level. A drive into town takes only about 10 minutes, so we found the location to be a nice balance between peace and quiet and convenience. There is no TV or internet, which some might find a negative but if we wanted all of that we would have just stayed home. The owner Lois was very nice and accommodating to our schedule as well. Recommended!

Car: necessary

Owner is a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors), Master Scuba Diver Trainer, #211856, insured and active. Mike can train you to become a certified Scuba diver.

Since the cottage is so close to Gravenhurst and less than 15 -20 minutes from Bracebridge there are many activities and attractions close by.
