Owner / Property Manager purchased this house in 0
While the Northstar area was very enjoyable the home was in need of major upgrades and repairs. When we arrived the heater was not working and within two days the dishwasher was not working. The property management company did their best to send out repair people as soon as possible but for New Year's week it was an inconvenience to have to coordinate for repair people to come to the home while we were trying to relax. The home is in need of major updates, repairs and cleaning. Some kitchen cabinet doors were falling off as well. Layout is nice and roomy.
Our extended family enjoyed a nice Christmas holiday at the house. The house is set up very well for lots of people and is very comfortable. The house and furnishings are in good condition, although a bit used. The pictures on the web site must be from several years ago. We had difficulty cooking meals for our group because there is only one small oven. Beyond the oven, no major issues and we would recommend the house as a nice comfortable vacation retreat.
The trip did not start well with the Martis Valley Vacation Rental service not placing the keys in the lock box as promised. Being that it was a Sunday at 5:00 (the keys were supposed to be there by 4:00), after digging through the paperwork to find the business number, I reached an answering service. They were able to get someone to come out, open the office and get me the keys. He did come in a timely manner (the entire delay was 15-20 minutes) but he did not seem that genuine in his apology of the oversight.
The vacation rental was as advertised. The layout of the house worked out well, with the darts and pool table down stars away from the TV and living room area. We had lots of fun down there. The carpet is light and shows all the years of use, but the rest of the house was clean. I was told that two of the three beds down stairs were extremely firm. The water was turned off when we got there (in August) with no instructions where to find it and what to do. With just a little looking, we came across the well-marked valve in the laundry room area and turned the water on.
The kitchen was well stocked with supplies. Everything in the house appears to have been there since 1985 with no update. Not a bad thing necessarily, but you did not feel you were at a modern cabin. The location was great, as was the view off the deck. Definitely a highlight.
All in all, I would be willing to return to this cabin in the future, but I would try to find a more modern alternative in the same area. I am not sure I would want to work with Martis Valley Vacation Rentals again.
We hosted a ski weekend for our kids and their families including our young grandchildren. This home was set up perfectly for entertaining a large group of adults and kids. The open living area allowed for everyone in the kitchen, dining area and living room to feel they were a full participant in family activities. The lower level family room was a great place for the young kids to play and enjoy the pool table. There is a very large laundry/mud room off the garage was perfect for getting out of your ski gear, and storing it until you need it again. The kitchen has a very large openness that allowed for large groups to help with cooking and cleaning. Lots of available storage as well. The home is located in a quiet neighborhood easily accessible by car or the shuttle. We visited both Kings Beach and Truckee for shopping and restaurants. They are very close to the same distance from the residence, a quick 8-10 miles. There are many great restaurants to visit. Jason 's and Lanza's are very family friendly in Kings Beach. Moody's in Truckee is a great place for casual fine dining. The availability of the shuttle to transport you from the residence to the Northstar village can't be understated. Takes you right to the ski area or to the shopping/restaurants available in the village. All in all, this was a wonderful home to stay in while enjoying a family ski trip. Excellent for a quick weekend or extended stay. We will certainly stay here again, and would happily recommend it to family and friends.
