A full kitchen with a gas BBQ, bathroom, living area, laundry and covered patio – all on the main floor. (The covered patio is a great for viewing songbirds, parrots, toucans, and aricaris as they visit the mango tree - not to mention the direct view of the Whales Tale and the Bahia.)

Access to this property is along an incredible jungle road. (It does have a couple of steep sections to it and requires a 4WD SUV.
Occasional sightings of sloths, Capuchan monkeys, Howler monkeys, jagarundi's, toucans, aricari's and parrots can be taken in along the drive to the house - bound to enhance your Costa Rican adventure!
Our property manager, Trina – will meet you in town and escort you to the property. We offer cell phone for local calls and 4MB WiFi Internet.
There is much to do in and around Uvita; Visit Ballena Marine Park and take a walk out to the Whale's Tail during low tide. Plan a horseback ride on the beach and to local waterfalls with La Merced. Charter a fishing boat for some of the most amazing off shore fishing you will ever experience! Rent an ATV and tour waterfalls and though the jungle. Take a boat trip to the Corcovado National Park in the Osa. Zipline, canopy walks and birdwatching tours. Oh and don't forget the surfing! Take in the skills of the locals at Playa Hermosa or Playa Dominical at sunset, then head out for a delicious dinner at one of many of the fabulous restaurants in our area.

Living in Vancouver, BC - every winter we escaped the rain and cold. In 1993 (our first trip to Costa Rica) we knew that someday - Costa Rica would become our future.... After many returning vacations, we discovered Uvita...and fell in love! ... with the local Tico community and their passion and determination to retain the lush and protected coastline. The beauty, the untouched coastline, the waterfalls and the animals. Pura vida!
Jacqui purchased this House in 2008
Why Jacqui chose Uvita
We chose this property because of it's elevation. It is at 1100 feet, which provides incredible breezes and airflow. At this elevation, the views are spectacular AND you can still hear and see the surf. The breezes keep the house cool during the day and at night the downdrafts cool at night. Being on the mountain side, it is safe, little or no crime, quiet, has a strong community of about 20 homes, but is only 10-15 minutes to town and the beach. In the evening the views of Uvita lights, the moon and stars... Pura Vida!
What makes this House unique
We know that there are many other rentals to choose from. The beachside rentals are luring and are great if you want the beach holiday of heading out on the surf board 8 hours a day! The area is crowded and much of the wildlife is scared away, plenty of bugs, humidity and heat. The benefits of Bambu are that it is located on the hillside, where the air circulates with cooling tropical breezes, very few insects, rarely a mosquito and you are away from the noise of the coastal the highway. The property is 1.5 acres, with many fruit trees and tropical plants. Mandarinas, bananas, plantains, pineapples, plus many palms, heliconias, hibiscus, and tropicals. There are many areas to walk around the neighbourhood - to enjoy the howler monkeys and capuchan monkeys. There are so many birds to take note of and observe from our property and as you walk around the hillside.

An oasis for the mind, body and soul.
My girlfriend and I spent two weeks at Casa Bambu, and literally had tears in our eyes when we had to leave.
If you are looking for a break from your hectic life, need to recharge, and gain some perspective, Jacqui and Randy have created a home that reflects their love of Costa Rica embracing both the serenity of the mountain and the expanse of the ocean from a truly private location. Nestle at the top of a winding road,
best driven in a 4X4 , you arrive at a house meticulously cared for , beautiful gardens surround you, and an orchestra of wildlife serenades you. The kitchen is well equipped, airy, and spotless. Whether making fresh ceviche, firing up the barbecue or blending fresh fruit shakes, you won't be disappointed. Jacqui and Randy provided us with great suggestions for restaurants, but most nights we were content to create our own dinners, half the fun was checking out the farmers market in Quepos and Uvita and the local market (BM) had everything else. You can choose to spend your day on the wide veranda, overlooking the expanse of jungle leading to the Whales Tail, floating around their infinity pool, or you can make your way to any number of beaches which suit both the surfer and sun worshipper.
A must do...walking the beach of Playa Balena at low tide..your footsteps may be the only ones you see..:) We would also recommend the Uvita Information Centre - very helpful and they use great tour operators. We chose to fly from San Jose to Quepos via Sansa Airlines, (an easy connection) airports are next to each other...which takes about 25 mins and saves the longer drive from San Jose 2.5 to 3 hours.
The flight passes over beautiful mountain ranges leading to the sea, so you can get a great overview.
We were met in Quepos (a small landing strip) by a representative of Vamos Car rental (they bring the vehicle from San Jose. We got a new automatic 4X4, which was suited to the bumpy off roads of CR.
Once you get to Uvita and you head up to the property, it is steep, but well graded now and will be second nature after a couple of trips.
As I mentioned earlier, we had a hard time leaving Casa Bambu. After the first night looking up at the stars, listening to all the life surrounding me, I felt like a child again, grateful to have been to given the opportunity to rediscover what so easily gets lost in our busy lives, a sense of discovery, of wonder, in a truly natural world..
Wow! What a wonderful review!
We have so much pleasure when we hear back from our guests and how they experience Casa Bambu. It sounds like your were able to reconnect with yourselves and were open to all that Uvita has to offer!
Thanks for your kind words!
Jacqui and Randy
As advertised....AWESOME all around.
From initial contact and inquiries with Jacqui to meeting Trina at a designated location, and brief check ins once situated, the business side of our visit was flawless. And it just got better from there.
The first time up the hill is a memory my wife and I will cherish forever. Jungle, mountains, streams, views, nature and a few bumps put us where we wanted to be immediately.
And then the house and grounds....just as the pictures show but with all senses firing in full "OMG" mode. We were like kids at the ultimate playground. The house, pool and views from both have to be experienced to fully appreciate the location and attention to detail that went into building Casa Bambu. Perfect is a word we used often just hanging, cooking and playing with little K2. A nice touch to the overall vibe of the place.
Everything you need to fully enjoy an authentic Costa Rica get away is provided, right down to the book describing all the various things to do should you want to venture out. Which you will, but returning for a late afternoon plunge in the pool with an adult beverage is what we will talk and laugh about for some time.
Thank you Jacqui and Trina for making our trip one of the best. Give K2 a scratch for us.
Our own luxury resort!
We just got back home from spending our honeymoon at Casa Bambu for 5 nights, and couldn't have picked a better place! The property was even better than the pictures. The view was stunning, the pool was so lovely, having coffee in the morning watching the toucans visit, or having a glass of wine watching the sunset....so relaxing and gorgeous!
Picking Uvita was an excellent choice as well, as other more popular destinations like Manuel Antonio are just too crowded and hectic for us. Be sure NOT to go during Holy week in CR. It took us 6 hours to drive from San Jose!! You will definitely need a 4 WD to get up the mountain, but it was fun after the first drive up, and to get around the area. There are boogie boards to use (Playa Ventanas was our favorite) and a full kitchen. We ate at some restaurants in Ojochal ( Citrus and Exotica) that were amazing! Loved the horseback ride up to Nauyaca Falls and the sweet, little neighborhood falls down the road.
I own a vacation rental property as well, and I can honestly say that this is a winner! Jacqui is a lovely host and Trina, the property manager was such a delight and big help. Unlike many places to stay in Costa Rica, Jacqui provides air conditioning for the bedroom at night, which we SO appreciated on warmer evenings. Everything you need!! We really hated to leave.
Thank you, Jacqui!!
Beautiful house! Toucans!
My wife and I spent 8 wonderful nights at Casa Bambu. We were visited by toucans on three of the mornings! The pool is such a great touch to this mountainside villa. Some of our best time on our trip was spent in and around the pool with our books and a couple Imperial Silvers! It was hard to leave each day. The property is very thoughtfully landscaped and developed, we loved everything about it. The upstairs covered deck is perfect for morning coffee and gazing out at the pacific. We slept well in the bedroom, and loved rolling over and looking out at the beautiful view every morning.
Uvita is a great little town with plenty of dining options. We did not get to try as many places as we’d hoped, but OSA Thyme, the whine bar, and Los Laureles were all great and conveniently located on the road leading up to the mountain. Try the ‘margarica’ at OSA Thyme, and tell Sandra, Paige and Tito we said hello!
Uvita turned out to be a perfect location for our trip. Centrally located to so many beautiful beaches, but not too overrun with tourists (yet :) ) Playa Uvita is breathtaking. Playa Ventanas was our overall favorite. Nauyaca falls were only about a 45 minute drive from the house, and definitely worth the trip! We hiked it, took about 45 minutes, was hot but the swim at the falls made it worthwhile! You don’t need a guide or anything like that. We spent about a half day there.
Be vigilant about your belongings on the beaches. We never left our things unattended, so we didn’t have any problems, but we were warned by the car rental company as well as motorcycle cops on the beach not to leave our things unattended. Your best bet is to just not bring everything along; leave wallets and phones and electronics locked up at the house, or out of site locked up in your car, and you will be fine.
We found the locals to be quite friendly. The supermarket was a bit intimidating the first day; halfway through the trip, I felt like a local, knew my way around and paid with colones for everything, exact change!
The hill up to the house is arduous, about two miles from where the pavement ends. You’ll need 4wheel drive, and I’d recommend renting something with a little more power than the daewoo we had.
Make a trip down to ojochal and go to the bambu room for sunsets and some live music!
Trina the property manager was the best! Really helpful with all aspects of our stay
Thanks Jacqui for sharing your beautiful home!
Perfect spot for a relaxing vacation!
My husband and I stayed at Casa Bambu for the second week of our vacation in Costa Rica. The house is perfect for 2 people with lots of space to relax. I am very picky about cleanliness when we travel and Casa Bambu was spotless! The kitchen has all you need for all meal preparation. The upper covered patio is a great place to sit and stare at the beautiful view and the same view can be seen from the lower space where there is a lovely pool to cool off. Toucans came daily to the tree beside the pool so we had great views of them from the upper level. The bedroom is spacious with a very comfortable king bed and lovely ensuite bathroom. The trek up the mountain to get to the house is a 15 minute climb and requires 4 wheel drive. It took a couple of trips to get used to it! Uvita is a town with all that you need. Lots of good restaurants, bank, grocery store. Dominical to the north and Ochojal to the south are also nice communities to have a meal or explore. Trina is the contact in CR for the house and she lives close by so. She provided all the details we would need upon check in and met us at the bank in Uvita when we arrived. We would definitely come back to this rental on future trips to CR.
Thanks for your wonderful comments! We get so much joy when we receive reviews like yours!
We hope you get a chance to return to our area again - we would love to have you back!
Terrific week; unbelievable views!!
This place comes as billed in the other reviews: the awesome view is not from some certain angle with a zoom lens. This is what it looks like all the time. It is effortless to stay there (which is something that can't always be said for traveling in Central America).
I'll speak to a few specific items:
The drive/road: While you do need a 4WD, as of April 2017 the unpaved, steep road was in pretty good shape. It took us maybe 13 to 16 minutes to get up/down the mountain and while it is relatively short you don't want to go up/down more than two full trips in a day (it feels a bit like a rally course). We generally went out in the morning, came back for a nap, and then went back out at night.
The house: The house is great (as others have said) The bedroom is downstairs near the pool (king sized bed, firm mattress); upstairs is the porch/kitchen/living space. You have to go outside (no internal stairway) to get from upstairs to downstairs. While odd, I didn't find it got in the way. If I had to pick a nit, I would suggest a portable AC unit to cool down the bedroom at night. That being said, the insects/sun will wake you up at 5:30am....that is a far bigger impediment to sleeping than the temperature (which did drop naturally at night). Bring ear plugs and a mask if you want to sleep in. Internet worked fine in the house. We also got cell phone coverage at the house. We never even tried to turn the TV on; can't speak to that. It was just my wife and I. If you were planning to use this house for larger groups, it might be a challenge due to lack of sleeping area and large entertaining area. (You might be able to sleep more kids, not adults. For entertaining, you could likely have another couple over, but not a large group).
The pool: The pool is awesome for its purpose; to cool off and enjoy the view. You can sit in it (it has a ledge) and tread water; maybe fit 4 people. If you were looking to swim laps, it won't work for that.
All in all the place exceeded my expectations (Trina was nice and helpful if you needed anything). We had no real complaints and simply loved it!
Lots of great restaurants and cafes in Uvita! Local markets on Wednesday and Saturday. 7 amazing beaches within a 20 minute drive from Uvita - all different and unique. Tourist and Information Centre in town. 2 large grocery stores, meat market, fish monger, markets, bakeries... Banks with ATM's. Surf board, boogie board and SUP board rentals in Uvita. So many activities: Boating, Humpback whale and dolphin sightings, Hiking, Sport Fishing, Birding, Swimming, Surfing, Boogie Boarding, Shelling, Kayaking, ATV Tours, Wildlife Viewing, Horseback Riding (beach or jungle), Waterfalls, Swimming, Snorkelling/Diving, Zip Line and Canopy Tours.
