About Linda & Al Carlsten
Hello, we are Al & Linda Carlsten living in the Charleston, SC area for over 30 years. We are transplants from the beautiful but cold State of Wisconsin. We have the best of both worlds with the beaches of South Carolina and the Mountains of Western North Carolina.
Linda & Al Carlsten purchased this Cabin in 2008
Why Linda & Al Carlsten chose Sapphire
We have vacationed in the Cashiers, NC area for about 15 years until the cabin bug bit us. It is a beautiful place to escape the hot summers of Charleston. It also gave us a place to find a little cold weather and snow in the winter when we get a little homesick for Wisconsin. After renting in the area with 2 other couples someone always got the bad room. There is no drawing straws for a good bedroom because they are all exceptional in comfort and decor. Each room is unique.
What makes this Cabin unique
Our beautiful log cabin with a red tin roof is great for every season even when it rains. We are nestled in the woods at the end of the cul-de sac, the highest point in Whisper Lake with views of Hogback Mountain, Mountain Laurel and flowering Rhododendrons. We offer more stocked items than any rental you have ever rented. No empty cupboards or lack of cleaning supplies. Life couldn't be better stargazing, while in the hot tub. Watching a roaring fire in the outside fireplace, drinking a glass of wine makes it complete. Our 4 grand-children love to roast marshmallows and make samore's just before going to bed. We love having our morning coffee on the deck watching the fog roll in over the mountains. The afternoons are a perfect time for a tea party on the loft porch with our three grand-daughters. You will not find any other house that will supply as much as we do. You will no longer have to make runs to the store for stupid little things that should have been supplied.

A mountain retreat that will spoil you!
The homeowner Linda went out of her way to make us feel welcome and right at home including having a brand new summer comfortable shipped to the doorstep before our arrival. The kitchen has more amenities than most rental homes. The back porch overlooking the mountains by the outdoor fireplace was our favorite spot! Definitely will return to this home. I wish we could have stayed longer. And oh my goodness the beds were amazing,

Hi Whisper is a Little Piece of Heaven
Unlike many hi end rentals, this one is in a league of it’s own, owing primarily to the fact that it is a second home for its’ owners. The amenities, linens, cookware, utensils, furnishings, etc., are ‘1st class’. No corners were cut nor expenses spared, thus ensuring a most memorable experience. Equally as impressive was the immediate availability and quick response time from the owners on the rare occasions when I had questions. Thank you Linda and Al Carlsten for sharing your home! We’ll be back!
A wonderful time was had by all!!
We had a wonderful time staying at High Whisper. Our group ranged in age from 14-76 and there was something for everyone. We all enjoyed the game room. There was a lot of laughter and good times playing pool. Sitting on the porch having breakfast in the mornings and enjoying the cool mountain air was fantastic!!. The upstairs porch was our little reading nook and coffee spot that was perfect for early mornings. The Hot Tub was a hit with everyone and was nice to have after a day of sight seeing and shopping in the area. The house has everything you could want except a bathroom on the lower level for those staying in the downstairs bedroom. The kitchen is well equipped and the grill was great for cookouts. Several in our group enjoyed using the canoe at the lake several times. We also used the Amenity Center multiple times utilizing the gym, pools, wet and dry saunas, game room and Putt-Putt golf. Overall rating is an A
Gem Mining, Waterfall exploring, whitewater rafting, snow tubing and sking. We have numerous hiking books to explore the many waterfalls in the area. The two largest trout on record in the state of NC were caught in the Horsepasture River near by.
