Bonfield Manor is located at the entrance of Oxford, a half mile walk or bike ride to restaurants, shops and the Riverview Ave beach. The waterfront property offers a 12 acre park like setting, fabulous views and access to Boone Creek and the Choptank at its confluence into the Chesapeake Bay. Bonfield Manor and its plantation buildings were established in 1771-73. The original Georgian manor burnt down in 1927 and was replaced by an elegant lodge built on the original mound (and colonial basement kitchen). With two master bedroom suites on the ground floor, two queen size bedrooms and 2 bedrooms with 2 twin beds each on the second floor Bonfield Manor can accommodate 8-12 people. The 12 acre property with its shaded outdoor patio, swimming pool, large dock and extensive grounds provides both privacy, time to relax and an extensive playground for young and old. Fishing, crabbing, canoeing and swimming are at your finger tips as are games, TV, WI-Fi, piano and books for in-door entertainment. Oxford is at your footsteps, St Michaels a ferry trip away and Easton a 15 minutes drive.
We have cherished Bonfield Manor for nearly 20 years and use the property YEAR Round as a 1-2 day retreat and for longer vacations. With children grown and heavy travel commitments, we would like to share this special historic property with others who are looking for a short-term 'get-away' or vacation rental. Bonfield has been updated to today's standards and furnished with 19th century antiques and engravings as well as modern art works and furniture.
The Owner purchased this estate in 1995
Priceless setting and water views.Convenient, close-in but peaceful location, Abundant wildlife: ospreys, owls, blue herons, fowl, foxes and deer. Remaining colonial buildings on the property. Plantation and literary history of Bonfield Manor.
We had a great time at the Bonfield Manor. Everything was just as advertised, the care-taker was attentive. We enjoyed canoeing/kayaking, biking, fishing, crabbing, swimming in the pool, and spending time out the big yard. Would definitely stay again.
We stayed again at Bonfield Manor this summer [early August]. Read our review [5 stars] from July of 2015! Great time, wonderful facilities! A perfect vacation!
This house was rented by a 3 families with elementary aged children. There was ample room for playing yard games, riding bikes and the fishing from the dock. The pool was a favorite with everyone, as well. While this was the first time we had utilized a rental with mini-splits, they were more than sufficient to keep the entire house comfortable during what was the hottest week of the summer. Both Chris, the on-site caretaker, and the owner were in touch with us via cell several times during our stay to make sure everything we needed was taken care of and any questions were answered. We would definitely be interested in another visit to this estate in the future.
My husband and I stayed with our grown children and their partners and children at Bonfield Manor for a glorious week. We have stayed in five other vrbo properties in the past, and while all were nice, this was by far the best. The house was well-appointed and full of attractive furnishings. The kitchen was well laid out, a pleasure to cook in. The caretaker was extremely helpful and pleasant. All the equipment - bikes, croquet, kayaks, baseball gloves and ball, etc.- was in good working order (this is not always the case in every property). The village of Oxford is a pleasant walk nearby. Our family had a lovely time in this comfortable and sparking clean house.
Had a fantastic stay to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with our 3 children their partners and 4 grandchildren. the accommodation was perfect, a local restaurant catered one meal and we used the incredibly equipped kitchen for the rest of our stay. As it was late september it was a bit cool for the pool but we canoed played croque, barbecued and ate some of the excellent tomatoes growing in the garden. The decor was lovely, some beautiful antiques and extremely comfortable. Our children are urging us to go again
Each year our family, parents, sister and brother families, go to a different place for our vacation and this year to Oxford, MD was awesome! The area is a wonderful small town that allows you to ride your bicycle anywhere. We enjoyed bicycling to the Scottish Highland Creamery, Robert Morris Inn restaurant and Schnoors outdoor deck to name a few. We also enjoyed trips to St. Michaels and Annapolis. The house was everything the owner promised. Our stay at Bonfield Manor did not disappoint, pool, ample room for our lawn games, canoes, kayaks and bicycles provided entertainment for all. We rented paddle boards and that provide additional fun. It was great just to sit outside and watch the action or just enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The kitchen was fully stocked with all we needed to prepare meals, measuring spoons and cookie sheet would be nice additions but it did not stop us from cooking awesome meals. The home is beautiful but our favorite room was the sun room that allowed all of us to gather and enjoy each others company and the magnificent surroundings. I would recommend Bonfield Manor it is a wonderful place to vacation!
If your family is a moderate to heavy internet user I would recommend you use your provider for internet access because we found that our group of nine, mostly over fifty, struggled to maintain a stable connection to the house network.
Oxford founded in 1694 is located at the mouth of the Tred Avon River as one of Maryland's oldest town and important shipping center during Colonial Days. Today, it is a picturesque town that Yachting Magazine called 'one of the world's best waterfront towns'. Visitors enjoy the historic Robert Morris Inn, the Bellevue Ferry to St Michaels, attractive restaurants, several bustling marinas, and an active yacht club and museum. Whether walking or taking a bike ride, the well-kept houses and gardens along tree-lined streets offer a wonderful backdrop for a relaxing week-end or vacation. The historical towns of St Michaels and Easton are just 15 minutes away by car and offer further attractions and entertainment.
