About Ava Plakins

Our family purchased this house in 1966, and we have loved it ever since, updating it over the years. It may look like an antique farmhouse, but it is updated in all the ways that matter -- new kitchen (2015), new baths (2015 and 2013), full-sized washer and dryer and other appliances, and cable, WiFi, and a new smart HDTV.

Tranquil stay at Tavanage!

We've just spent our fourth vacation at this wonderful house on Middle Road. It's an easy hop to all of our favorite beaches, little shops and great food and the fish market we love, as well as restaurants.

This house is always calm and soothing, with a great amount of space for everyone, community space, beautiful deck and landscaping, outdoor grilling with ease. This year the kitchen and downstairs bathroom were completely renovated so now we love it even more. The Plakins are very thorough yet easy going people to rent from, and we all feel we wouldn't want to go anywhere else. Entertaining or just gathering together in the kitchen, dining room, living room or deck feels so luxurious, and yet the great escape to one's own room is just as wonderful. We love it!

Great big wonderful stay!

We have just had our third wonderful summer stay at Tavanage. It continues to be a perfectly magical house for us. We cook cook cook in the spacious kitchen, lounge on the ever-so-peaceful back porch, and sleep cozily in all six bedrooms - we are a big brood and it's so great to have all that room to spread out. Our stay at Tavanage always feels like coming home, even the first year. It has the history and heritage of the island, as well as the modern amenities we can't seem to do without. Grilling out back is easy and relaxing, as is company for cocktails on the porch.

And, as in past years, we have found that the location turns out to be ideal. Peaceful on Middle Road, and a short ride to either Alley's, the beaches, the docks at Menemsha. Everything within reach. We love our "home" at Tavanage and hope to return for many years to come!

Another wonderful stay at Tavanage!

We had another wonderful week at this magical home. We love that it is spacious yet cozy. We love that it feels like home. it is a beautifully stocked kitchen, all the lounge-y amenities in the living room, a cozy bedroom for each family member - we bring a lot of folks!. A house in a somewhat wooded area, but sunny out there on the beautiful porch. We've been coming to the vineyard our entire lives, and tried every kind of house, and this one just has that magic. The location turns out to be quite great - in the middle so not too far to anything, and a fun little farm just down the road and a really short drive or bike ride to Alley's for morning coffee and paper and The Hang. The owners keep the place beautiful and clean, lovely flower boxes and landscaping. I love hanging outside barbecuing and enjoying this family friendly vibe. Can't say enough great things about Tavanage!

We had a GREAT Family Vacation!

We've been to Martha's Vineyard a few times, but this was the first time we stayed in Chilmark... and what a WONDERFUL stay it was! We were so impressed by the history and beauty of Tavange and felt like we were in on a secret that only a few people shared. The house was spacious and warm all at the same time. My husband and I took our three kids plus our daughter's best friend and were later joined for a couple of days by my neice and nephew. There was MORE than enough space for all of us without ever feeling crowded.

I searched for a LONG time to find a home that not only could accomodate us humans but a home that was pet-friendly too. Some may know, but not many on the island rent their homes to dog-owners. Our sincere thanks to Ava, Naomi, and Tamara because it was truly special for us to be able to take our dog, Lola. The kids loved exploring the grounds with her and she felt perfectly at home.

One of the best perks in renting Tavange was access to Lucy Vincent's Beach! It is truly a gem - one of the lovliest beaches I've ever been to! We went every day and never felt like we were competing with anyone else for prime beach space since it's only accessible to the town residents. The other perk was access to ferry tickets. We all know how tough it is in prime season to get ferry tickets and we were grateful to make use of them with our rental.

Wonderful stay at "Tavanage"

My husband and I rented this property with our families during our recent wedding on the Vineyard. When we made the booking, we had no idea that it was a historic property on 3 acres..we just needed someplace big enough to accommodate our party and we wanted to stay up island.

We were pleasantly surprised that the house and grounds were so extraordinary. The house was built in the 1840s and one of the previous owners had planted the property with different tree species from around the world. Everyone was so happy with the deck and overall peaceful atmosphere. The property really is delightful and romantic. It was the perfect place to stay during our wedding!

Our wonderful stay at Tavanage

My family rented this wonderful house on Middle Road for the first time this summer. We've rented countless houses on the Vineyard, in a variety of locations, and always wanted to get as close to Menemsha as possible. This year we tried something new, and were thrilled that we did. This is a wonderful house that felt like home right away. Plenty of room for everyone to spread out, cook together comfortably, lounge together comfortably, grill and hang out on the deck, and a very unusually landscaped yard to explore. There is history to this house that you feel around every corner - and yet it's NOT falling apart, it's in great shape and was well cleaned and maintained when we arrived. The Middle Road location turns out to be a strategic plus - easy to get up to Chilmark/Menemsha/Aquinnah, as well as easy to scoot down to Vineyard Haven and beyond. A small cocktail hour with guests was easy as well, with the get together on the deck. A wonderful place we hope to return to!

As Chilmark renters, tenants have right of access to Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket beaches. The house is conveniently located to everything on the Island. It's only about a mile and a half from Alley's General Store and the public library in West Tisbury, making Egartown, Vineyard Haven, and Oak Bluffs easy to get to. Beetlebung corner, Lucy Vincent, and Squibnocket are three to four miles away. It's an easy trip to Menemsha and Aquinnah. The house also adjoins the conservation land walking trail to South Road. The property, which is almost three acres, is private but not isolated.
