As a child I enjoyed' playing house'. Although I have an MFA from OSU, I still enjoy my houses. My first 10 years were in Los Angeles and I remember that 'sense of place' and how that affected me. I try to make my guests comfortable in a unique and enjoyable setting.
Linda Fowler purchased this apartment in 1993
I had a friend whose family of 8 siblings all had rental properties. When the house down my street became available back in 1993, I gave serious thought to down-sizing from my large Queen Anne to this apartment for my retirement home. In the meantime, I do as that family had done--rent it. Since that purchase, I have been enjoying 'fixing it up' and sharing it.
I was attracted to this property because a then-tenant told me 'it was as nice inside as a New York apartment'. But it needed rescuing and my artist's eye envisioned what it could look like. This street is rumored to have been designed by Anne Dennison Neil, a turn-of-the-century landscape architect with its unique island park. The front bedroom overlooks this wonderful view.
Christine and her family were delightful, even after a long drive into Columbus. I was delighted that they were able to stay in their own place with their baby while attending a family celebration. They left the apartment in perfect condition. I'd welcome them back any time.
I waked everywhere. An evening stroll through the Victorian Circle homes, a brisk walk down Neil, to mirror lake, to watch a swim meet as OSU, and a walk up to short north for dinner, boutique browsing, and a few gallery looks. Linda was pleasant, attentive, and helpful. In a world with mass produced art hanging on the walls of hotels, enjoying the original pieces hanging about VillaRuth, was a nice treat. The interior was well maintained, and very CLEAN, which is the most important thing to me on a travel trip. We had all the necessities available to dine in, a great formal dining table, or a beautiful front porch to enjoy. With two people staying here, there was ample work space, community space, and separation. The beds were comfortable, well made, with clean, fresh linens. And the building, though divided into several apartments, and all were occupied, was quiet. Would highly recommend. Except for the weekends, I will be in town!
This is the perfect property for your stay in Colombus. I had the pleasure of spending 5 nights here and I felt right at home. The apartment is spacious, bright and clean and has every convenience you will need. The convenience of having a parking spot in this area is appreciated and it is about a 2 minute drive to the area of short north. I rent a lot of properties on Homeaway and this is a star. The owner is an absolute pleasure to deal with. Enjoy your stay!
I previously lived in Columbus. My husband and I stayed here for an "Old Home Week," visiting friends, eating at favorite restaurants, and going to the Columbus Arts Festival. The location was perfect, with no destination (except the zoo, which was 25) more than 20 minutes, and downtown only 10 by car.
It was more like a friend's upscale apartment than a rental--spacious, with very nice art and furnishings, just as pictured. The remodeled kitchen was well equipped. The building and neighborhood were quiet, yet close to many restaurants, Target, and supermarkets. We felt safe in the neighborhood, including walking after dark.
