Truly an Icelandic home away from home

  • 5 of 5

We loved the set up with 2 separate bedrooms; cooked dinner after shopping nearby at Bonus and walked everywhere in Reykavik. Everything we needed was there.

Comfortable and perfect location!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen well-stocked and the location was walking distance to anything you would need. Some may want to know that there are a lot of stairs going up to the main level and more going up to the bigger bedroom and full bathroom. The 1/2 bath is in foyer as you come in front door so when on main level where smaller bedroom, living room and kitchen is you have to go up or downstairs to use a bathroom. Otherwise ... perfect for our two couple group.

Spacious Accommodation in Excellent Location

  • 4 of 5

We stayed four nights in Burkni's rental apartment and found it to be well worth the money. It is roomy and within walking distance to almost all attractions in Reykjavik. The nearby parking garage is cheap and good for small vehicles and there is a very good grocery store a few blocks away. The city's party animals like this area on the weekend.

Great location, very nice setup for a family

  • 5 of 5

After going to Iceland as a couple through a TravelZoo package last fall, we wanted to bring the kids and a couple of their friends this spring so we needed more cost effective accommodations. We found this through VRBO and Burkni was very responsive to our questions. His instructions for getting into the house the first morning were very well thought out so checking in was a breeze. Everything worked well (a couple of lights were out and Burkni came right over to replace them for us - he's a great guy!) and the layout worked perfect for us.

We had our own bedroom on the main floor and the three beds in the upstairs bedroom worked perfect for the kids. The rooms had excellent dark-out shades and the walls were all but soundproof which added to some great sleeping conditions. The beds were very comfortable, the wifi worked great and they had an alarm system that we set whenever we went out exploring. The kitchen is laid out very nice - you'll love the stove area as it has great windows for light and ventilation while cooking. The extra half-bathroom on the lower floor was very convenient with 6 people in the house. We used the washer and the dishwasher both a couple of times which worked flawlessly.

There is no assigned parking for the house (although there is a driveway area that is convenient for unloading and loading) and since you are in downtown Reykjavik, you can't just park anywhere. We ended up using the parking structure at the end of the block which worked great for us. You can also explore out farther away for free parking spaces but it just wasn't worth the hassle to us.

The house is right above the 'Gray Cat' restaurant but we never heard any noise through the walls (Note: the aroma were great when you walked out the door :-) ). We loved the location as it was central to the downtown area. We would strongly consider returning to this house on future trips.

Comfortable, spacious, great location!!

  • 5 of 5

Wow! We really found a gem for our stay in Iceland! After suffering through a cramped VRBO in Paris (which didn't live up to it's photos) this place was a breath of fresh air (the photos don't do it justice). Be prepared for stairs as the apartment is on the top two floors of the home. But the rooms were spacious.... the beds were comfortable.... and the kitchen was GREAT! Cozy living room and a giant dining area. Nice to have 2 toilets. And the shower in the upstairs bathroom was quite large. There is only one private bedroom. The other beds are all in a open loft-type area on the 3rd floor but if you don't mind sharing space it works out fine. I stayed here with my cousin (we are 40's/50's) and both of our moms (they are 60's/70's)... and we were quite comfortable. I'd definitely recommend this apartment to others and would stay there again if my travel plans brought me back to Iceland.

Great Home Base for a stay in Reykjavik

  • 5 of 5

The apartment itself was quite nice--it's a walk-up, with a half bath (toilet) by the entry, then a bedroom, TV/Living room, and open dining room/kitchen area on the main level, and an open sleeping loft + full bath on the top floor. Also has a nice little outdoor landing on that level. We had 5 grown men, and all slept comfortably and didn't get into each other's way too much, and were able to relax there a bit, cook some breakfasts, and enjoy a cocktail hour before heading out for dinner or the bars. Surprisingly quiet, even though there's a bar next door and you're in the middle of everything.

The location is what's truly amazing: the main shopping street is out the back door (alley up to Laugavegur, the street adjacent); parking garage next door (park in the lowest level, side exit goes straight to the apartment), the "GREYKJAVIK" mural is in the back yard (really), minutes from the bars, hot dog stands, restaurants (Dill is literally at the corner, a couple blocks to Grillmarket/Grillmarkaðurinn -- go there!), the pick-up/drop-off for the Grey Line bus to the airport is across the street.
