YOU CAN HAVE IT ALL — Smack dab in the center of the old village with especially nice views of Duck Creek - a tidal salt water eco system with plenty of coastal bird sightings. We are minutes away from beaches on foot & by car. Restaurants and entertainment venues are a short walk from our home so you don't need a car.

Everyone says, this is a place to relax, rejuvenate and to become inspired. So you can let us know what you think when you come and see for yourself.

LOCATED IN THE HEART OF WELLFLEET — our 18th Century Antique Home is one of the most photographed properties in town. Our home was built around 1780. It was one of the first houses constructed on this spit of sand by the early settlers. We've made the kind of improvements that preserve the charm of yesteryear - rustic yet comfortable to also support the way we live today. We offer:

— way comfortable queen bed

— high-speed wifi

— air conditioning

— free parking

— gas grill

— 27” high definition TV

— 140+ channels

— architectural antiquity dating back to the late 1700s

IMPECCABLY MAINTAINED WITH ALL THE CHARM OF YESTERYEAR the Garret’s three large skylights generate gorgeous light and airiness—just great for listening to live birdsong up in the trees! The exposed beams have stories to tell about our european ancestors who built this place using repurposed wood from whaling ships abandoned sometime after the Revolution. It was a natural way of life back then to recycle old timbers sitting around no longer being used. ...if only those boards could speak...

STRONG TIES TO ARTISTS' COLONY — This landmark is the site location of our proud history as collaborators and contributors to the art world. We are the much celebrated CHERRY STONE GALLERY since 1971. It has been a privilege to host world class artists and local artists too who gathered here for countless art openings over the years. Join us and our Wellfleet community for another memorable season of art, theatre and coastal activities guaranteed to be thought provoking.

FEWER THAN 50 STEPS TO UNCLE TIM'S (foot) BRIDGE will set your journey across to Hamblin Island and all the way to Chipman’s Cove by footpath along the creeke at lowtide. Be sure to stop along the way to sign the Bench Book quietly waiting for the unsuspecting passerby inspired by the open salt air and visual beauty. You will love the soft, sinuous landscape as you explore the pastoral outdoors in a truly picturesque setting.

THE SHIP'S BELL SETS A NAUTICAL MOOD for you as it chimes from the Congregational Church bell tower much like it did onboard ships at sea since the early part of the 15th century. Our guests have found the experience both soothing and curious.

WELLFLEET IS KNOWN FOR IT’S OYSTERS, GALLERIES and Critically Acclaimed Theater. Experience spectacular sunsets and a romantic beach fire on the bay. Walk to gourmet restaurants, fresh fish markets and village shopping. Yoga studios, massage therapists and acupuncturists are conveniently located right here in the neighborhood for both relaxing and recharging your spirit and soul.

OUR HOME IS A SHORT STROLL TO MAYO BEACH, THE HARBOR AND MAIN STREET in Wellfleet Center where you can spend your time swimming, playing tennis, basketball or listening to free live music events at Baker’s Field Tent. Wellfleet is brimming with entertainment at numerous venues throughout town all summer long. We boast an outstanding public library, host to poets, scholars, historians and classical musicians who offer us insight into their life’s work during the season long schedule.

HOP IN THE CAR FOR QUICK AND EASY ACCESS TO WELLFLEET'S UNIQUE KETTLE PONDS, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, the Audubon Society and magnificent ocean beaches along the Cape Cod National Seashore occupying 61% of Wellfleet's total landmass.

A fully independent living space on the upper level of the main house offers privacy and pleasure.

Thank you for considering our home as a destination. It's a good place to hang your hat.

About BRENDA

I'm a visual artist and curator.

BRENDA purchased this studio in 1978

Why BRENDA chose Cape Cod

Having a home in Wellfleet is all about being close to magnificent bayside and ocean beaches. We also have fresh water kettle ponds formed by glaciers 15k years ago. it's amazing to think they still exist today. Living in the Cape Cod National Seashore is a real treat for me. 61% of Wellfleet is protected conservation land with the Cape Cod Bay and the Atlantic Ocean flanking the un-interupted shorelines on the east and west side of town. And, we are right next door to the hustle of Provincetown - a perfect day trip to make during your stay.

We made this our primary residence because we love the light, the dunes, the soft landscape, the cultural community and the people. Our strong ties with the Provincetown Artists' Colony stems from a 45 year relationship with visual artists we have represented and exhibited in our gallery. Today, we are private dealers, curating exhibitions at on and off site venues.

Benn and I had a wonderful time discovering the beauty and charm of Wellfleet. Under your gracious tutelage Benn and I discovered fabulous beaches, great restaurants and amazing sunsets. We thank you for all of this and more. It was a pleasure to meet you and to stay in your gracious home. We enjoyed the garden, delightful antics of the birds, the honeybees and the gorgeous art work. What a vacation and how lucky we were to happen upon your special home! Please let us know if your travels ever take you to Philadelphia. We've got lots of great art in our city to share!

Notes:
Garret is a Fine Arts & Visual Arts / Architecture word for a living space on the top floor of a house, typically under a pitched roof. Our garret offers a 'U' shaped, ensuite-style layout that is surprisingly spacious and separates the sleeping area from the kitchen. The Antique Oak Fainting Chaise Lounge Sofa is as pictured in the area of the bed and location of the TV. This is an fully independent living space in the upper level of our home. There are stairs. There is a private entrance at the front of the house. A Fujitsu minisplit offers excellent air conditioning, dehumidifier and heat. Our home is located in an 'In Town' Conservation Area.

Lovely, welcoming, comfortable.

Love staying at The Garret. It is always a great experience. Warm, welcoming, immaculate accomodation. Convenient to restaurants, shops and bus transportation. Uncle Tim's bridge is across the road. Beautiful to walk across and venture. Brenda is the best hostess. The Cherry Stone Gallery is on the premises. Just a wonderful experience in all.

Super Cozy 18th Century Antique Garret

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I spent 5 wonderful nights at this property. Upon greeting us, Brenda shared her wealth of knowledge regarding Wellfleet and the surrounding area. The garret has an eclectic style, is maintained beautifully & includes all the needed amenities. There was one small drawback...my husband is tall, over 6' and he had a few challenges because of the slanted roof. However, that did not stop us from fully enjoying our stay. At night, with the windows open, we were blissfully serenaded by local tree frogs and crickets. Wellfleet is home to some of the most delicious oysters anyone could want and we could walk to many local restaurants to enjoy them. Communing with nature is easy here. Access to the bay, ocean, hiking/biking trails, dunes, fresh water ponds & salt marshes allows the visitor endless ways to have small or large adventures.

We hope to return to the “garret” in the future & we highly recommend this property to all.

Romantic getaway in Wellfleet

  • 5 of 5

What more can we say? Our stay at the garret was very special. The artistic furnishings in the garret provided a beautiful, warm, welcoming feeling. Brenda, our gracious host was most welcoming upon our arrival. She provided us with a wealth of information about the town including food recommendations, history, etc. (all were accurate). The location of the home is absolutely beautiful and it is located at the foot of an historic footbridge that leads to a lovely trail for hiking and cycling. Convenience is the key phrase for the location of the garret. You can walk easily to local restaurants and shops. Beautiful sunsets abound in this location. We hope to return to this beautiful place again and again.

Classy and cute, right on the water

  • 5 of 5

We had a magnificent three nights in this creekside garret. The thoughtfully chosen antique chairs and fainting couch were a great change from the usual mass-produced vacation chic that most rentals by the beach are awash in. The location is unbeatable: Everything in Wellfleet was in walking distance, and it was so relaxing to be able to go dinner or coffee or hop up to the library without getting in the car. And in the evenings, we could walk right across the wooden footbridge to take in the sunset, watch the tide roll in, or gawk at thousands of stars. The ocean with its majestic dunes and watchful seals was a quick car ride away, as were the wild walking trails of Great Island. The garret's kitchen was entirely adequate, and my partner, who is 6'0", was fine with the sloping ceilings.

We had many splendid meals on the trip, including enormous breakfast burritos at Box Lunch and a fine salmon at the Wicked Oyster, but the best meal was easily Blackfish in Truro--which, if memory serves, was Brenda's excellent recommendation. Speaking of which, Brenda was an excellent host--helpful at the outset and then left us to our own devices. A memorable and rejuvenating getaway!

Perfect for Kayak Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We spent a wonderful week with Brenda and Sally in their Garret in Wellfleet. It was the perfect launching point for our daily kayaking trips. We were able to launch the kayaks right across the street into the creek (as long as we minded the tides!). The Garret is located on the second floor of a beautiful, yellow-painted antique cape that is set across from the picturesque walking bridge in Wellfleet center. The Garret is nicely furnished and equipped, very clean and well-maintained. We appreciated the comfortable bed and luxury linens. The space is sunny with many windows looking out into the trees (and nice quality darkening shades). The air conditioning worked well to cool down when needed. There is a small but very adequate kitchen area that suited us well for breakfast and light meals when we didn't eat out at the many good nearby restaurants. Brenda is a gracious, helpful host - we enjoyed getting to know her. The town center location is nice especially if you appreciate being able to leave your car behind as it is an easy walk to the grocery store, the pier and other town amenities. We will definitely be back!

Romantic Vacation for 2

  • 5 of 5

We just came back from a relaxing vacation on the Cape. The Garret offered a comfortable homebase for my husband and I for our week in Wellfleet. We were able to use the kitchen for our breakfast and lunch and walk to the Wellfleet restaurants for dinner. (we like Mac's).

The space in the Garret is exactly as described with antique charm and slanted ceilings. My husband is 5'11" and didn't have any issues with the ceiling height. We slept with the windows open and had a cool Cape Cod cross breeze. On the hottest days the AC was very efficient. Wifi is fast and we watched a movie on the flat screen/DVD on a rainy night.

Our hostess Brenda was so lovely and got us acquainted with the space and left us to our vacation. There is a steep set of steps to walk up/down but was not an obstacle for me even at 7 months pregnant.

We would defiantely return to the Garret next summer if we could fit the baby and his accessories but we'll have to see what next summer brings. We highly recommend staying here as a romantic 2 person space with the conveniences of the town.
