About David Michael

Susan and I found this beautiful island by accident. Our first visit was in 2003, and we never wanted to travel anywhere else. The beaches, snorkeling and hiking were far above our expectations. We are from New England and felt we found our Caribbean paradise. We traveled many times to St John always dreaming someday we could have our own place. I am general contracter, and when we heard about a small Fixer upper we fell in love. We both worked for months renovating the home ourselves with alot of ups and downs. We decided to name our home Daebreak after Susans mom who recently passed away, her nickname was Dae.Now complete, we are so happy we can now share our home so others can enjoy this beautiful island. It truley is a dream come true!!

David Michael purchased this villa in 2010

Why David Michael chose St John

We love the local side of St John. Everyone is so welcoming in Coral Bay and we feel at home there. The home has a private feel, but so close to town and the beaches. Not to mention we have our own personal ruins in our back yard!!

What makes this villa unique

What we love most about the house is the mornings, and the beautiful sunrise we wake up to everyday over Coral Bay.What a great way to start your day! The deck right off the bedroom provides privacy, and tranquilityTrue relaxation..I like the fact both North Shore and South shore beaches are only 10 min away. Also, In my opinion some of the best restaurants in St John are in Coral Bay only minutes away.

Great secluded cottage with wonderful views

  • 4 of 5

We loved Daebreak. It is a lovely cottage, secluded and surrounded by nature. With great views from upstairs. It's also just a 40 ft hike up the hill from the backyard to some amazing ruins. Very worth the short hike. The property managers Tom and Jackie are also phenomenal! For those looking for an off the beaten path location you won't do better than this. It's roughly a half in on a dirt road mile (steep in places) so a jeep is a must. You will fall asleep to the sounds of frogs and wake up to the birds singing.

Great place!!!

  • 5 of 5

If you like a quiet place this is it. Beautiful scenery and comfortable house. Definitely like the quiet side of the island. Having a four wheel drive vehicle like a jeep is a must.I will definitely come again. The owner was very responsive and the couple who are the property managers were great.

A great Getaway in Paradise

  • 4 of 5

We loved the house. The wooden floors and ceiling were beautiful. It was plenty big for 2 people and I think with the porch bed and additional outdoor bathroom could comfortably accommodate 3 people. I loved waking up in the morning and lifting my head from the pillow to see Coral Bay. The kitchen had everything we could have needed, and David was sure to have the propane tank for the grill filled before we arrived. David was also available within minutes when we got slightly lost getting to Daebreak. The outdoor shower was great, as was the walk to the ruins. The wrap around deck(s) offered several places to sit depending on the time of the day and how strong the sun was. I loved the privacy of the house, and the proximity to the east end beaches and restaurants. It is a beautiful home.

The house was generally clean, but there were specific areas that need attention: the curtain in the upstairs bathroom needs to be washed; the floor underneath the queen bed needs to be vacuumed or swept; the ropes on the blinds in the bedroom need to be untangled. Once I know these things are taken care of, I would definitely recommend this property.

Owner's Response: Dear Barbara, Thank you for taking the time to write this nice review. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay. I wanted to let you know that I hired new property managers and they have already addressed the issues that you mentioned. I am so excited to finally have someone taking care of the house who really cares and pays attention to detail. It is so hard being back here in New England and not being able to address some of the important issues that get overlooked but I am confident that the house will be in tip top shape now that Tom and Jackie are at the helm. I look forward to hearing from you again soon and hope that if you come back to St. John that you will stay with us again at Daebreak. Best, David

Another Excellent Vacation!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our 5th trip to St. John and to Daebreak. We love the house and it's privacy. Coral Bay is my favorite area of St. John, waking to the chickens and roosters and the birds is wonderful. Love seeing the donkeys near the house and all around Coral Bay. It was very breezy this time and we did not need to use the fans at night. The view from the bedroom never gets old. It was nice to come home from the beach and sit on decks and relax. The outdoor shower is amazing! There were plenty of beach towels and bath towels available to us. The house was very clean when we arrived. The kitchen is stocked with plenty of pots, pans and cooking utensils. We cooked breakfast each morning and ate out most nights. Looking forward to the next trip back.

Property was nicely laid out and did have views to Coral Bay

  • 2 of 5

We arrived to house that had not been cleaned and encountered great difficulty contacting property manager as she had an Indiana cell number and there is no cell service in Coral Bay. Even after cleaning we still had to do more cleaning on our own, there was dust, mildew and hair everywhere. On top of that no propane for the grill. Many of the outdoor lights did not work so we needed a flashlight for returning after dark. The bone jarring ride to the cottage would have been worth it if it were clean and better maintained. My wife and I love St. John and always enjoy our time there, however, would not return to this rental.

Owner's Response: Dear Brooks, We are sincerely sorry that your experience at our property was not what you hoped it would be. To arrive, as you did, to an unprepared house is unacceptable. To compensate you for this inconvenience, we would like to offer you a special rate in the event you would like to return. Since this incident, we have employed a new property management group that will offer comprehensive service and accessibility for the duration of our guest's stay. We are strongly committed to providing our guests a relaxed and beautiful environment away from home. We are disheartened and dismayed by this negative review as it is the first that we have had. We are highly motivated to keep working to maintain our high standards. Regards, David and Jess (Owners)Daebreak

Very private, tricky to find the first time

  • 5 of 5

We loved the location and view from Daebreak. We came in after dark and did get lost but called the homeowner and he talked us into the property. Sunrise view from the top deck was great! Loved the ruins after hiking up the short steep hill. Well preserved and much larger than we expected. We used the beach chairs almost every day. Donkey and deer in the driveway at times and the neighbors friendly dog greeted us everyday when we returned. The kitchen was well stocked. Previous residents left condiments, ie ketchup, mustard, salad dressing so we didn't have to buy all that. Bath and beach towels provided. Paper towels, toilet paper (do not flush), baggies, tin foil, saran wrap found in drawers. We used the map and some of the other books provided for snorkel locations and information. We did have an issue with no gas for the gas grill but the gas stove worked. You definitely need a 4x4 to get to and from the property. Close to Coral Bay groceries, north and south shore beaches for snorkekling. Overall loved the place!
