Overview

South End Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8-9)

Our house is a vintage beach cottage on a quiet and quaint street at the very southern end of Wrightsville Beach. This house was built by Bryan's grandfather in the 1960's and has been a gathering place for the family over the generations. We hope that you will find it a charming place to relax and unwind. Sunsets over the sound and sunrises over the ocean are offered at no extra charge!

Mid-century is very popular now and we love that! We're mid-century too. Our cottage is truly mid-century vintage. The kitchen is lovely with an old gas stove and original vintage blue formica counters. The old wood paneling glows warmly in the afternoon sun. All the floors are hardwood. The whole house is second story and the houses on three sides are only one story so there's a royal view out of every window. We've had fun furnishing the house like it's 1960 all over again.

The house is clean and dry with lots of natural light. The bathrooms and appliances are all updated, of course and there's central air. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking.

The sound, called Banks Channel, is across the street with a public access on either end of the street. The front porch looks over Banks Channel and has a great sunset view.

There is off street parking for four cars. And an outdoor shower.

Public beach accesses to both the Channel and the ocean are just down the street. The beach is one block east.

It's a lovely stroll along the beach and around the tip of the island at Masonboro Inlet. There's a bird sanctuary there so bring your binoculars. Or, often, there will be Audubon Society volunteers who will let you use their binoculars and scopes and provide information. Scheduled bird talks are also available.

Across the inlet is Masonboro Island, to which you can paddle or motor. It's 8 miles of uninhabited beauty.

We LOVE to sail (see the photo of our boat) and we'd be happy to invite you and your family along, weather dependent, so check with us! We have beautiful wooden sailboat that's comfortable and safe for everyone. We sail in Banks Channel, not much in the ocean.

For paddle boarders or kayakers, we can show you the paddle routes through the marsh just across from the house. The access to the water is just across the street from the house. Easy to carry your watercraft.

Bicycling on the beach at low tide is always fun and bikes are the best way to get up to downtown WB for the restaurants. We offer bicycles as needed.

About Mari

Bryan's grandparents built this cottage in 1962. Bryan grew up spending every summer here. Bryan and I, Mari, are now the third generation of Humphreys to own this lovely spot. Bryan is a home bulider/general contractor/master craftsman. I'm a hospice nurse. We have four grown children and we all love to be out on the water, sailing in old wooden boats, paddle boarding and surfing. We also love to host, share our home and our knowledge of the best spots and the best activities for every weather condition.

Mari purchased this cottage in 1962

Why Mari chose North Carolina

Wrightsville Beach is a special place. I've traveled all over the world and I can say from experience that the beach and water here are among the loveliest. White sand, wide beach, blue water (no river nearby to turn it brown). And on WB, one of the loveliest spots is the southend. Our cottage is on a quiet year-round residential street, one of the few streets left with little cottages. No public parking on the street, we have off street parking, so even the chaos of the summer doesn't affect this peaceful spot. The house is cozy without being cramped. It's clean and dry with lots of natural light. Water view from almost every room.

Loved the Vintage Home

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at the beach house. The vintage feel gave the house a lot of character. It was an easy walk to the beach where we spent most of our time. We also really enjoyed the bikes provided. We took morning bike rides to the other end of the beach and had fun exploring the island. Mari and her family were very accommodating and I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay at Wrightsville!

Fantastic beach cottage

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay! We loved the view from the deck of the Banks channel. Easy walk to the beach and definitely easy to access the channel with paddle boards, etc.

The cottage was very comfortable and love the history behind it. We would definitely stay here again.

Peace, Serenity, and Water in two directions!

  • 5 of 5

What is there to say.. you've now found one of the most unique houses on one of the greatest barrier islands in the world!! Nestled into the peaceful south end, and away from a lot of the hustle of WB & Lumina Ave (the main drag), this is a quiet retreat with a porch overlooking the sound and a quick 2 block jaunt to surf the nearby beach breaks. In one direction, a short bike ride can reach the south end for a beach stroll.. and in the other direction, the bars, live music, and nightlife of WB. This place has it all! And with the house's open floor plan, it can comfortably accomodate a family or larger group.. or be just as cozy for a couple. Owners are responsive, very helpful, and can respond quickly to any need that arises!

We really loved this little place. Comfortable, kitchen worked out great for the family dinners. No TV which gives everyone a chance to really spend time with one another. Within walking distance to the beach. Beach of course is wonderful. Overall we had a nice time and would come back in a heart beat. We would recommend this to our friends.

Great weekend in Wrightsville!

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a great weekend in Wrightsville! The house was great, very comfortable for a group. When we were not on the beach we spent most of the time on the porch enjoying the view of the sound. The walk to the beach is easy and there are 4 parking spots which made it incredibly convenient! The owners were quick to respond and very easy to work with. Highly recommend if you're looking for a casual beach house.
