This charming , exclusive apartment with all windows facing south overlooking a wide canal, is in a romantic, newly restored, typically Venetian Gothic palazzetto, just behind the famous Ca'd'Oro of which it is a copy in miniature. It is around the corner from the famous 18th Century Jesuit church with Domenico Rossi's extravagant interior of folds of damask rendered in coloured marble. Here you have the advantages of living in a historical listed building in the true Venice of the Venetians, and the use of a canoe for the unique experience of seeing Venice from the water.
From the apartment which is on the piano nobile up 20 steps you can take breakfast on the balcony overlooking the canal.
The central location of the apartment means that all Venetian amenities, theatres, swimming pool on the Guidecca, water sports on the Lido and all islands, Murano, Torcello etc are easily and cheaply accessible by vaporetto from the Fondamenta Nuova or the Ca'd'Oro vaporetto stop on the Gran Canal. Full instruction leaflet provided with tips and restaurant suggestions etc.
We also mention our other family property which is in Rome page 270 on this Holiday rental site; we would love you to come there as well!
Golf info.: There is the Venice Golf Club (Circolo Golf de Venezia Lido [Alberoni]) on telephone no. +39 41 731015 where the '39' is the country code for Italy. The price is 15€, per person per day at weekends and 10,€during the week. It is helpful if you bring your handicap certificate. The course is closed on Mondays.
Recent guests (July 2004) have said it is the best golf course and most pleasant clubhouse they have ever been to in Italy.
I can´t begin to describe how pleasantly we were surprised when we unlocked the door Such a fantastic, beautifully furnished, large , centrally located flat.(piano nobile).if only one of us had been a pianist ...Ailsa Williams, Kew
We arrived back last night after ten perfect days..as before we loved the flat (the attic) and hope to return there soon, Brian Harvey, Stafford.
'We very much enjoyed our stay with you again this summer 'John Mortimer, Suffolk
We found it all very comfortable and felt we had only touched on all there is to see and hope to return sometime
The Attic apartment was the venue for a week, staying with our daughter and making full use of the two generous, comfortable bedrooms and living area. It is a fine historic building, sensitively restored and providing excellent facilities including a small kitchen and bathroom and generous wardrobe and storage space. The apartment was very well presented with good quality bedding, towels etc. The location is a particular plus point - being very near the Fondamenta Nuove, the first water-bus stop in Venice from Marco Polo airport and also convenient for trips to Murano, Burano etc. It is also an easy, short walk through to the shops and cafes on the Strada Nova and to the Grand Canal. Santa Caterina, however, is a quiet, residential oasis, away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded popular main tourist attractions and yet only about 20 minutes walk from St Mark's. Nearby is the stunning church of the Gesuiti. There is a good Co-op store and excellent restaurants including Ristorante Contemporaneo Ogio in Campo dei Gesuiti but our favourite, in Calle Priuli, was Al Fontego Dei Pescatori - the best sea bass ever! Altogether a fine place to stay and highly recommended.
My wife, teenage kids, & I stayed in the gorgeous Piano Nobile for a week in August and we loved it. Loads of space for all of us. Beautiful, simple, & tastefully decorated & furnished to provide the experience of an elegant Venetian life. The view of the canals & the surrounding neighbourhood from the balcony is just stunning. It's also quiet; well away from the hurly-burly of Rialto & San Marco's, but still withing easy walking distance. An interesting collection of old & new books in the library shelves, and a baby grand piano (I Iearned to play - very badly - Eric Satie's Trois Gymnopaedie whilst the family slept). This is a perfect Venetian home, created by a kind and generous hostess who dealt with all communications in a straightforward, honest, and very amusing manner. I hope that we can visit again & soon.
We have just stayed in the Piano nobile apartment of this charming palazzo for the thrid time and I cannot imagine a nicer way of spending 10 days in Venice. One is away from the terrible flow of people between the station and St Mark's; the view is perfect as one sits on the balcony watching the occasional barge, taxi or gondola rounding the bend from one canal to the other to the accompaniment of cries of "Oee!"; the rooms are spacious and pleasingly furnished; there is an excellent vegetable and street fruit stall nearby, a fisherman not too far away who comes with his daily catch and quite a reasonable little supermarket. The apartment has everything one needs: you just have to watch out not to knock your shins on the low, square glass tables in the sitting room!
There was space, elegance, an outlook and wine on the table, provided by the owners – all the things we need and love. Regardless of how much has been written and said about it, nothing and nobody can prepare one for Venice. The crowds I can bear, though I wish that people would dress with respect for so beautiful and fantastical a place. I have never left any other city so filled with regret, and eager to return – I hope to this winning Palazzetto.
We stayed in the attic appartment with our two teenage daughters in April 2010. The property was beautiful, and exactly as described, and very clean and tidy. The location is exceptional and we had a really lovely week there. It is very well situated - off the beaten track, but Venice is not large so it didn't take long to get anywhere. Ideal for trips to the other islands. Lovely local restaurants. We had a lovely time in this gorgeous appartment and will definitely be back, either enfamille, or a deux!
Venice needs little introduction- among the guidebooks guests have recommended the new edition of Baedeker is high on the list
