About Mickey and Kirt Chappelle

I relocated to New Bern from VA in 2004, looking for a new adventure. I am a nurse and have 2 grown daughters, a stepson and stepdaughter. I married a wonderful man from my hometown in VA after moving to NC and after much soul-searching, decided to move back to VA to be closer to my family. Together, my husband and I decided this home would make a great place to retire, but since that is a few years away, we decided to update our home and offer to others as a vacation rental.

We have 2 dogs and 3 cats, love working in the yard, traveling, gardening and remodeling projects.

Mickey and Kirt Chappelle purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Mickey and Kirt Chappelle chose North Carolina

I purchased this home in 2004 and lived there for almost 5 years. I love the area and find it is close to everything, while still being in a quaint waterside neighborhood. It is quiet and peaceful and the neighbors are friendly. When I decided to move back to VA to be closer to family, I knew I wanted to keep the home, hopefully to retire there in the future. I really wanted to be able to have the home available to me and my family whenever we could visit, so vacation rental seemed like a great option. I love the beach and it is close enough to get there within 30 min.

What makes this cottage unique

The name of the cottage, 'Just In the Moment Coastal Cottage' has special meaning to me. I lost my only nephew Justin, (notice the first 2 words!) to melanoma. Justin lived life to the fullest and even though he was only 27, he experienced more in his short life than most do. Because he loved his career as a commercial pilot, you will find a very cool Aviator Bear in the home in his memory. I know Justin would tell you life is best lived in moments and to treasure each moment in time as if it may be your last. That is why I am not waiting to share my home with others. Waiting for 'the right time' never happens. That time is now. I hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.

Great Place To Stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed the cottage for the month of March. We totally agree with the others that have stayed here, it a great place. But we would like to add something that we didn't see in the other comments: The kitchen is very well stocked with pots, pans, bowls, everything you need. Most places have only a minimal kitchen. The kitchen has a Keurig coffee maker as well as a regular coffee maker, loads of silverware and dishes to make cooking a breeze. We had never had fresh sautéed ocean scallops. B & J has them fresh every day. You cannot buy them like this in any restaurant, and if you cook them at the Cottage, you will never forget them. Enjoy your time at 'Just in the Moment Quaint Cottage' May God bless, G and V Southern Michigan

Beautifully quiet home

  • 5 of 5

Grill was broken and most of the ceiling fans were really loose, but it was a great stay other than that! We loved the quaintness of the home, and enjoyed access to the river, New Bern, and the beach. A great place to get away and enjoy simpler things!

Owner's Response: I am sorry about the grill. I was not aware it didn't work. Will get that fixed. And fans do tend to wobble...sorry about that too...glad you enjoyed it otherwise though...hope you may want to return again.... Thx, Mickey

Lovely Holiday Getaway!

  • 4 of 5

Plenty of room for four adults in this lovely little cottage. Loved the enclosed porch but disappointed we were not able to use - it was just too hot! We were only there for two nights (one full day) so did not have time to air it out and cool it down. Perhaps next time!!

cozy get-a-way

  • 4 of 5

Thanks for a wonderful stay! We enjoyed exploring the town of New Bern and learning about the rich history:) Also our visit to Atlantic Beach and Indian Beach was not too far away! The house was cozy (especially enjoyed sitting up late chatting in the kitchen) and just right for our family mini-reunion... nice that the dog could come too. The neighborhood is quiet and good for a get-a-way.
