About Mickey and Kirt Chappelle

I relocated to New Bern from VA in 2004, looking for a new adventure. I am a nurse and have 2 grown daughters, a stepson and stepdaughter. I married a wonderful man from my hometown in VA after moving to NC and after much soul-searching, decided to move back to VA to be closer to my family. Together, my husband and I decided this home would make a great place to retire, but since that is a few years away, we decided to update our home and offer to others as a vacation rental.

We have 2 dogs and 3 cats, love working in the yard, traveling, gardening and remodeling projects.

Mickey and Kirt Chappelle purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Mickey and Kirt Chappelle chose Coastal North Carolina

I purchased this home in 2004 and lived there for almost 5 years. I love the area and find it is close to everything, while still being in a quaint waterside neighborhood. It is quiet and peaceful and the neighbors are friendly. When I decided to move back to VA to be closer to family, I knew I wanted to keep the home, hopefully to retire there in the future. I really wanted to be able to have the home available to me and my family whenever we could visit, so vacation rental seemed like a great option. I love the beach and it is close enough to get there within 30 min.

What makes this cottage unique

The name of the cottage, 'Just In the Moment Coastal Cottage' has special meaning to me. I lost my only nephew Justin, (notice the first 2 words!) to melanoma. Justin lived life to the fullest and even though he was only 27, he experienced more in his short life than most do. Because he loved his career as a commercial pilot, you will find a very cool Aviator Bear in the home in his memory. I know Justin would tell you life is best lived in moments and to treasure each moment in time as if it may be your last. That is why I am not waiting to share my home with others. Waiting for 'the right time' never happens. That time is now. I hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.

Delightful, well-equipped, very clean cottage, fenced yard for our dog - what more could we want!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time living "in the moment" at the Chappelle's cottage. We felt at home the minute we walked in the door. Everything we needed was right there - the Chappelles have thought of everything a guest might need and provided it. The cottage is in a delightful, quiet neighborhood but with easy access to anything you might want to explore. We can't recommend it enough and hope to visit again soon. Thanks for a lovely week!

A charming cottage in a very quiet small neighbourhood

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was perfect! The bedrooms each had TV's, every room has ceiling fans, nice to be able to avoid using AC to feel comfortable in the heat. They had bikes and kayaks for our use. We added bait and floaters to the tackle box. At the end of the road there was access to NEUSE River which was handy! The front veranda was glasses in and had a swing and rockers and of course a ceiling fan. The backyard was a nice size and a good portion was covered for shelter from the sun and rain. There was a propane bbq for our use although we went out for dinner nightly. The house was very well stocked with plenty of dishes, towels and items like spices, food wraps, bbq sauces, salad dressing and coffee and lots of other stuff. We picked up groceries for breakfasts and a few lunches. Mickey had a binder with some ideas for dining and excursions. Morgan's Tavern had awesome food and staff! In short of you are looking at this cottage, book it!

Great kayaking experience!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying in this home. It is so thoughtfully laid out and welcoming, inside and out. The owners were extremely quick to answer questions ahead of our stay; and they have provided everything one might need to be comfortable!! Kayaking on the Neuse was great fun, and I appreciated having access to a washer/dryer!!! I would absolutely recommend this cottage for a getaway.....

Costal Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Loved the cottage in Bridgeton. New Bern is just over the bridge. The cottage is decorated in a costal theme, so comfortable and inviting. I especially enjoyed the sun porch.

I did all the tourist attractions in New Bern. The Trolly gives you a great tour of all the beautiful, old homes and the history of New Bern. Also Tryon Palace is not to be missed. I especially enjoyed the "Persimmons" restaurant on the riverfront. Also downtown has been refurbished. Shopping and restaurants are very good.

I hope to go again. Property owners were helpful and nice people, making my vacation the best.
