Casa Katyia is a luxurious split level villa situated on the hillside set in its own private shady gardens overlooking the sea and the village of Salema.
Each of the three air conditioned double bedrooms on the lower floor has direct access to the private pool and gardens. Upstairs there is a fully fitted kitchen, separate cloakroom, and an open plan lounge/dining room with a wood burning stove and additional electric heating for winter letting. There are two terraces, one secluded with steps down to the garden and pool, the other larger terrace overlooking the pool with stunning views of the sea is ideal for sunbathing and al fresco dining.
The villa is tastefully furnished, and has ample poolside and terrace furniture. Salema's safe sandy beach offers safe bathing, beach loungers and umbrellas can be hired there. In the village there is a small supermarket and there are several restaurants and bars within walking distance of the villa.
Golf and Sport: The nearest golf club to Salema is Parque da Floresta, some two kilometres away. There are several further golf clubs in the Lagos area, the most notable being the coastal club at Palmares in Lagos. The famous Penina club is approximately a half hour's drive from the villa.
Pedalos and canoes can be hired from the beach at Salema whilst all watersport activities are available at Luz Bay some fifteen minutes from Salema. The nearest marina is to be found in Lagos where there are the usual facilities for boat hire and bare boat charters.
Other sporting activities such as tennis, squash, bowls etc are available at the nearby resort of Burgau, some ten minutes from Salema.
There is also excellent surfing along the west coast, some 15 kms from the villa. Equipment can be hired from various surf shops in Lagos.
Local Nightlife: In Salema village itself there are several restaurants serving regional cuisine and locally caught seafood. There are several bars in the village, but that is the extent of the local nightlife. For those seeking more entertainment it is necessary to travel to Lagos, some fifteen kilometres away, the regional town of the Algarve. Here there are numerous bars restaurants and discotheques capable of satisfying most apetites!
Local places of interest: The Algarve is a beautiful area of Portugal and no visit there would be complete without a trip to Cape St Vincent, the southernmost tip of Europe.
Monichique, a mountain spa north of Portimao is well worth a visit to experience the magnificent views to the south and to the Atlantic to the west.
The beautiful wild Atlantic coast is undeveloped and is approached through dense pinewoods to the north of Vila da Bispo.
Closer to the villa, for the more energetic, there are magnificent coastal walks along the clifftops passing through unspoilt countryside with magnificent views along the coast.
What a fabulous view of the sea, town and surrounding countryside. Would recommend this villa and the town of Selema to anybody who would like to see the way the Algarve used to be, we have already booked up for next year.
Casa Katyia is certainly the best villa we have ever stayed in! What was particularly nice were the extra touches you do not usually get in holiday villas like beach mats, umbrellas for the beach and adapter plugs. The villa was a real home from home. How nice to have a good sized swimming pool you can actually have a proper swim in and the views from the poolside and upstairs patio were wonderful!
We would recommend the surfing and body boarding at Cordoama Beach on the Atlantic coast .We enjoyed eating at the restaurants in Salema including MiraMar.
Bill and Carol, the owners, were friendly and helpful, both before the holiday and also when we met them on arrival at the villa
The picture on my children's faces are all you need as a review...they absolutely loved the house from the minute we walked in!
The house is amazing and a real home from home. It has everything you need and the pool and view of the sea are stunning.
The beach at Salema was our favourite as good facilties, shop and easy to walk to. Also enjoyed Zavial & Burgau.
The new pizza place in Salema Pizza Mobile is really family friendly and their apple crumble is to die for!
The owners are great at communication and we would recommend this accomodation to anyone. Wish we were still there and didn't have to come home!
We thoroughly recommend Casa Katyia. Salema is a lovely village with a long and very pretty beach (plenty of space) and some great restaurants (book to avoid disappointment) - far nicer than Luz or Burgau - and the house has everything you will need. 20 minutes drive to Amado Beach on west coast with waves and surfing. Also recommend Zavial beach 5 minutes drive away with lovely restaurant overlooking the beach. Take a boat trip to the caves in Lagos but pick a small boat which can access all the nooks and crannies. Thanks for a lovely holiday.
Brilliantly located and very well equipped villa, with terrific views from most rooms and the 2 main terraces. Short walk down the hill into the village, which has a couple of small supermarkets and a few restaurants, as well as the beach. Well positioned for exploring the Western Algarve. A thoroughly relaxing environment that deserves a return visit.
Friendly owners who were very quick to respond to our queries.
I didn't think that a week with 3 teenage boys could be so easy and relaxing. Casa Katyia is in a great location above Salema; walkable to the clean sandy beach and the good variety of restaurants and bars that Salema has to offer. The villa is beautiful; airy and bright with stunning views out from the upstairs lounge and its terrace as well as from each of the three downstairs bedrooms that lead out to a good sized pool. In the kitchen, I don't think that there was a single utensil that we couldn't find .. and any property with more than 3 bottle openers is fine by me! The villa was very clean and well maintained with its new kitchen and main bathroom. I had a few queries before our visit and the owners were very helpful and prompt in coming back to me. I would definitely recommend this property and Salema to a friend .. as long as I had reserved my week first!
Salema is a working fishing village, situated at the western end of the Algarve. It is approximately 60 minutes from Faro airport, 15 minutes from Lagos and 15 minutes from the west coast.
There are a number of courses within easy reach of the villa include, Parque da Floresta, Palmares, famous for its annual Almond Blossom Tournament in early February, and the three courses at Penina, see web site for further imformation.
